There's a thread on this over in the club section

I'll leave the thread here as a marker for a bit and merge later.

It does make a bit of a joke about being able to represent a country, that you can't vote for and don't have citizen ship or residency.

Is this where I point out that I have lived in England for over 6 years, have been allowed to vote (there's a dispensation for Commonwealth/Irish residents in the UK) for most of that time, and, having been granted Residency, no longer have any pesky conditions about not being allowed to play professional sport on my visa? Anyone got Steve Lancaster's phone number?

Sorry, what has this got to do with England??????? This is UNITED KINGDOM law, England have no part in this. Can we stop the England bashing on this one and replace it with the UK is bad bashing. Thank you.

Get that massive chip off your shoulder mate.
You're technically right, it is British law. But first, he was capped contraversially by England (not the UK) and second, England is the dominant country in the UK with 85% of the pop.... please tell me, how many Coalition MPs are representatives of Wales, Scotland & NI?
The answer 23 out of 117. Please don't try and argue that England are not only the dominant force in UK law and politics but also what they and their electorate want, they generally get. Tell me, did Scotland & Wales volunteer to join the UK all those years ago when the union was formed??? The landowners perhaps (who were anglo's) but not the people.
I don't want to turn this into a England vs. the rest of the UK debate but you seemed to have done so. Man up.

No it's United Kingdom law. That's why it's called the United Kingdom Border Agency not the British Border Agency.

How radically different are the two...and indeed does Northern Ireland strictly follow British Law or does it have variants from the Republic's laws aswell?

You obviously have a very deep seated dislike for England, that's your right and i'm not going to try to tell you that everything here is rosey and that you are wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and all that. Going to back out of this one before it escalates into the 'your country killed more orphans than mine'.
Peace out.

(Republic of)Ireland is a sovereign independent state.
NI is part of the UK but like Scotland and Wales has its own devolved institutions where we have powers to debate things like putting flags up and down and other such important things.....

I agree regarding England calling up Fourie. I actually think he was an excellent player who was good enough to be capped, and I think he'd put in the effort and showed enough commitment. But IF, and it seems it might not be the case anyway, he could represent England and still be deported, I think it's a mistake to cap him. I know the UKBA and RFU are institutions that don't have to cooperate in this regard, but I think it's wrong for the RFU to say \we're proud to cap you' and the UKBA to say 'But we want you out once you're no use to us'. Hopefully, at it seems, this isn't the case.
On the rest of your point regarding the English electorate normally getting what they want and the Act of Union, i think you're almost entirely wrong. Maybe a debate for another time and place, or via a PM?
