TNA Announce PPV changes

Very interesting move. Not sure exactly how this will work for them, I like the ideas of special events but could have impact on other story momentum.
Four is possibly too few, but I agree that PPV are slightly overdone at the moment.

I would say that four a year definitely isn't enough... seems to be them waving the white flag in terms of challenging WWE on a PPV business. I must say I enjoy a good four week build to a PPV and always think that 12 fits in nicely, issue is that WWE try to cram an extra one in while giving six weeks to build to WM!

4 is far too few really. Their big stars could end up without stories for months on end. It's quite confusing, I like the specialist ideas but they've taken innovative and turned it mental.

I personally would have said 6 would have been a better number, 8 weeks roughly between PPV's.
I like TNA's idea in priciple though, oversaturation of PPV's has led to burn out of storylines over the years, particuarly in the dark days of WWE in the late 00's, so to see them reduced and give time to build storys is refreshing.

I think this is a good move for TNA, for the buyrates they were doing 12 pay per views a year was too many.
Agree with the good Doctor that 6 PPV's would be the ideal number, with 3 months in between each major event it could prove difficult for the booking team to find enough ways to keep feuding wrestlers apart, although that is without knowing how these 'special events' will play out.
I reckon they should have gone for 6 pay per views a year with 4 TV specials thrown in as well, along the lines of the old WCW Clash of the Champions events.

The One Off Shows Look Good Too
The only one there that doesnt interest me too much is yet anothe ecw reunion show
As noted earlier on PWInsider.com, TNA will be doing a series of taped "One Night Only" PPV events airing the first Friday night of months they are not broadcasting live PPV events.
PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources the themes for the taped PPVs will be....
TNA X-Travaganza, featuring the stars of the X-Division (airing in April, taping 1/13).
TNA Joker's Wild Tag Team Special, featuring enemies teaming and a Battle Royal final (airing in May, taping 1/13)
TNA Hardcore Justice 2 - ECW reunion style "hardcore" show featuring hardcore stipulation matches bringing in ECW talents.
TNA "10 Reunion" - Stars from the early days of TNA battling inside a Six-Sided ring.
TNA Knockouts Knockdown - One night Knockout tournament with the first round being all stipulation matches and the final four in a "test of their stamina" to see who the final victor is.
TNA International Incident - One night tournament featuring talent from " United States, India, Mexico, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Japan & the UK" with the winner earning a TNA title shot.
TNA X-Division World Cup Tournament - four teams of X-Division wrestlers in a one night tournament featuring singles, tag, six man and eight man tag bouts.
TNA World Cup of Wrestling - Four teams, each captained by a TNA wrestler featuring a Heavyweight wrestler, a tag team and an X-Division wrestler battling in singles, tag and stipulation bouts. The finale will be a "two ring, triple chance Battle Royal."
There are no confirmed taping dates yet for the PPV specials beyond January

Those all sound really good to be fair!
Although I agree with Amy that there is no need for another ECW tribute show. Remember the days when everybody thought WWE's 'ECW - One Night Stand' was going to be a one off?
Good times.

Re: TNA Announce PPV changes
sounds alright to me; TNA's PPVs needed to have more prestige and this way the 4 PPVs confirmed will all be given additional prestige. Let's face it 3 of them were dead certs anyway, Lockdown, Slammiversary and BFG were already the 3 biggest PPVs of the year and including Genesis is a smart move because it really kicks off the year with a bang if it's the first of only 4 PPVs.
The One Night Specials sound intriguing, thought they'd have been more conventional but good on TNA for continuing to strive for innovation and creating a unique product. I generally prefer everything TNA over WWE anyway so be creating a more unique product just makes it more compelling rather than just seeing them as a wannabe WWE company who have delusions of grandeur.

Re: TNA Announce PPV changes
Overall it sounds very interesting. I guess I haven't been watching long enough to take the traditional PPVs to heart - though I'm glad to see they're keeping the main ones.
TNA obviously decided what they were doing just wasn't working - or producing the audience growth (and sales) they were hoping for, so they've gone down a fairly radical route. The One Night Special shows sound intriguing and worth staying up for.
As someone pointed out though, it does look as if it could play havoc with any attempt to write long-running storylines / feuds.
A long time criticism of TNA has been its weak storylines, so maybe they've decided to try and produce a better wrestling product, which doesn't rely so heavily on good scripting / booking? Something that will separate and make them more distinct from WWE and other franchises?
Anyway, looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

I think you've got to take into account in the US, a pay-per-view is an actual pay-per-view and they're usually quite expensive. By not putting a lot on pay TV they'll make the show more accessible.

Agree Crimey, the cost in the US is just ridiculous and we moan about the prices here of £15 when over there is double that a PPV with Mania around the £40 mark.
