Wow what a HUGE win for this team. Well done lads. This shows we have a bit of dept now in the 20s giving the amount of injuries we had.
Henshaw showed a lot of class in the build up to the try. Also happy with Daly. Cant wait till he's in the academy.

How did England managed to blow that! They annihilated Ireland at the breakdown and in the scrums. Ireland scored a late try when they'd a 2 man advantage. I must say, its not the greatest Ireland U20 team I've ever seen.

Doesn't seem to be any shame in that loss, well done Ireland. I'd have liked to have seen the game. Oh well.

Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
If the scrum went as well as described it is good considering the strange line up of players brought (Two hookers on the bench an a Loosehead playing hooker).

Well they were dominating the Irish scrum anyway but not sure how much that says.

Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
Ireland's scrum looked in bad shape last week too. Perhaps you should be worried about the lack of TH's, hookers at the provinces with there also being a lack of coming through the academies (or so it seems).
Anyway, fantastic victory for the U20s. Well done Ireland.

It was a definate red and credit to the ref for not backing out like most refs do. The ref had a good game imo.greytiger wrote:http://www.espnscrum.com/scrum/rugby/match/175728.html

Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
Sounds like England under 20s did well playing for so long with a man down. Anyone see how the English winger Purdy got on? I've heard good things about him and he's already made his Tigers debut in the LV Cup.

Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
Moriarty should get a long ban for the textbook spear tackle. Henessey was poor - the AR flagged a trip by the English No.8 and the ref. said maybe it was 6 rather than 8 so "didn't get a number" - except he had sent the English 6 off in the first half!
Two poor teams with no more than one or two on each side with Test potential.

If you haven't seen the spear tackle, I'll post the video below. Poor game littered with handling errors and some poor decisions. England deserved to win in all honesty, re the spear tackle I think he had to go and I imagine someone would find it hard to justify him staying on.

Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
No problem with that in any possible way. Stupid bugger.
I was just ignorant of the reason.
However, disregarding the iniquity a moment, A single point loss (away) with a man down for ¾ of the game somehow ameliorates the disappointment.

England deserved to win, and they should have won, no one would dispute that, they just got a bit stretched when down to 13.

Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
Yep, lengthy ban, the guilt of costing his team the match and a lesson he should learn for the future.
Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
That is a definite red card. The ban should be measured in months.

This not on tv? Shame I still haven't seen young Purdy in action.
Nice to see Wells getting a game, I think he might end up as more of a 6 than a lock.

I just cannot understand why the u20 selectors will not select a sensible squad. They have yet again refused to pick a sensible frontrow bench, with 3 props again. This on-going experiment with LCD is irritating: they should make their minds up. Personally I think he's an excellent LH and should be left there.
Great to see Sisi fit, and Stpehenson, who will be making his u20 debut, is a massively talented centre.

Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
Is it an England or Exeter request for Dickie to be converted?
It's a little odd tbh, is it that they don't rate the current batch of hookers?

England, Sgt_P. Exe are quite happy with his older brother Tom as our C-D hooker option!

It's odd alright, it's not like there aren't any potentially promising hookers at this level either come to think of it. Nathan Morris notwithstanding there is also Scott Spurling who has had premiership experience.

I suppose they've spotted something in Cowan-Dickie that has made them believe he could turn into a very special number hooker. It's a position that up until recently we have lacked significant depth at international level, if Youngs and/or Hartley got injured (not beyond the realm s of possibility) we'd be back in the mire.

I'm pretty sure that Hartley was a prop until West got his hands on him not sure how old he was but it was around 19 I think.

Re: England U20 vs. FranceU20's
It is a strong England team, but they haven’t quite clicked so far in this tournament.. France out-muscled a good portion of this England team last year (most of whom made the step up a year early) and it stung quite a few of them according to some of the blurb coming out of the camp. I would expect England to go hammer and tongs at them for revenge.
To be honest from what I have read this current crop of French youngsters are no great shakes. Their recent results would suggest that too (a narrow victory over Italy and a hammering at the hands of Wales). England to win this comfortably in my opinion.

England to win. Or they could just as easily lose. But that's probably the strongest possible England team so i'd hope we could get the win at home.
Oh and on the hooker front if Hartley and Youngs got crocked we'd have: Lindsay, Gray, Buchanan, Brooker, Webber, George and the Saints young hooker who's quite impressive (or am I thinking of their prop...), and Glos have quite a good young hooker too.

I think you are think of Mike Haywood at Northampton and Koree Britton at Glos. Only two of those listed are first choice players for their clubs (Gray and Webber) and none of them have really been properly tested at international level. Some may take to it like a duck to water (like Tom Youngs) but you'd really want an old head there to help guide them through. Saying that it would probably be David Paice that they turned to, who is a relative veteran with 6 caps!

Fickou has a full cap I think, not often you get full Ints in an U20 match

Did Youngs or Lawes get caps while in the U20's?

Yea you're right there. I would say that nearly all of those hookers are pretty similar though, all bar Gray are dynamic centre's who struggle sometimes in the lineout but otherwise contribute well in the games i've seen. No real difference to Youngs there, and if Rowntree did have to work with them I have faith in him and Cole to get them to a high enough standard and look after them.
