Changing your opinion of a fighter
Over the years and months here have been a number of articles asking members whether they have changed their opinion of a particular fighter and, if so what brought it about. I was never really that keen on Froch and I only really started to warm to him after the Pascal fight. Prior to that, I felt he was proclaiming himself to be something special by taking 11 rounds to beat the likes of Brian Magee. However, even after his loss to Kessler and the (I suppose, inevitable) sour grapes, Froch has continued to impress, surprise and confound me with regularity to the degree where I don't currently believe he has anything else to prove...I would be surprised if he could overturn his loss to Ward but outside of that, I think he's done as much as possible to convince me he's worthy of all the acclaim.
Therefore, in a similar vein, is there a fight/series of fights you'd like to see which would perhaps change your opinion of a currently active fighter?

Eubank.....I kind of always admired his savvy manipulation of the press and the way he got top dollar for easy opponents...Benn and Watson aside..
However he converted me when I saw his out and out bravery against Thompson....
Had nothing but admiration for the guy since..

Re: Changing your opinion of a fighter
Thanks TRUSS, I thought this article was going to go the way of your Boxing stories article.
However, I did ask if there's a currently active fighter who you might possibly change your opinion of if they were to engage in a particular fight/series of fights.

Nice dig..
Cleverly fights Ward and Beller again.... I might think he's not the latest in a long line of Warren WBO milkers!!
Some chance though...

Khan
Was never a fan at first just because of all the hype and his mouth but after beating Malignaggi and Maidana I did take to him and he always looks to fight the best now

Wlad. Took all of Haye's trash talk in his stride and then made him look stupid without breaking sweat. Whilst he hasn't exactly been taking the "best" fights out there since, he has had his mandatories, beaten a bigger unbeaten challenger and will hopefully show Povetkin what a real HW Champ can do.

Haye made himself look stupid.....Wlad just did the usual plodding job.....
I changed my mind on Wlad when after being completely trashed... he got his brother to sort the guy out!!

Re: Changing your opinion of a fighter
I'm neither a fan or hater of Cleverley but I do agree that he's in danger of becoming something of a joke. Fighting the likes of Cloud, Dawson, Pascal and even Bellew would go some way to helping his somewhat tarnished reputation. However, I feel the chances are he'd lose at least two of those which isn't likely to enhance his reputation either

Amir Khan, never liked him when he just came out of the olympics and I always thought there was something off about him, just didn't like the cut of his jib or something.
Then the performance against Maidana just made me a true fan of the guy, liked watching his fights due to him being entertaining, just when he showed that heart when he was rocked made me a fan.

I'll say it again...
"Therefore, in a similar vein, is there a fight/series of fights you'd like to see which would perhaps change your opinion of a currently active fighter?"

Oh, maybe I don't know, I can't predict how I'll feel in the future.

Re: Changing your opinion of a fighter
Not even an educated guess based on how you feel now? Seems quite easy.
"Not a fan of Fighter A. Feel his opponents of late have been over-the-hill/ under qualified to test him. Personally, I'd like to see him face (insert name/s here) and, providing he doesn't phone it in, win, lose or draw I'd warm to him.
How difficult was that, eh?

Oh, maybe I don't know, I can't predict how I'll feel in the future.
Probably deflated and with a sore bumhole.
Re: Changing your opinion of a fighter
Froch as well - Thought he was lucky in the Taylor fight and then the Kessler loss - a lot of whining and excuse making. Thought bute would do him but hes proved me wrong and fought his way back to Kessler with a burning love inside.
Re: Changing your opinion of a fighter
I had high hopes of you Shah and you've let me down. I wanted to know if there was a currently active fighter who could change your opinion of him for the better if he took on a particular fighter or fighters

Not quite although he did use magic to turn his mouse Winkle into a horse Winkle - and sent the rest of the horse to tesco.
