Odds slashed on Adkins.
The bookies have slashed odds on Adkins being the next manager sacked from 7/10 to 1/10. Seems very strange to do it now, he's got them playing good football and they have recovered well from their start to the season when they leaked goals for fun. Also they've just got a great point away at Chelsea.
Do we have any Saints fans on here? Any views on this?

Just seen he's been sacked! I'm stunned! What an absolutely disgraceful decision.

Gotta agree with you there. I feel for the fans but that chairman doesn't deserve staying up now.

I hate Nigel Adkins and Southampton Football Club. But the sacking of Adkins is beyond harsh. He has done a fantastic job with them back to back promotions and they look like a decent enough side to stay up. Any Championship side would be lucky to have Adkins. Personally i think Villa should go after him.

Agreed a shocking decision, but i wouldnt wish any club to go down. Having said that i think this decision may be their downfall, as the pressure will be on now!

Why?
1. Was the Southampton Manager
2. Said Brighton are not good enough to win the league one title
3. Dissed our style of football
4. Refused to give us a guard of honor when we won League 1 and played them the next game
5. Said we couldnt keep up with Southampton in league one
6. I don't like his glasses
I could think of more reasons!

Ludicrous decision. Being a Newcastle United fan though probably the best news we've had all week since can't for the life of me see anything but a negative reaction from both their players and fans.
What do these football clubs expect? He'd every chance of keeping them up so I imagine the chairman expected them already to be challlenging for the Champions League 4th spot. Most of us however actually live in the real world.

Re: Odds slashed on Adkins.
What an awful, awful decision. After Adkins got back-to-back promotions for the Saints, which was a great achievement, surely the only objective this season was to avoid relegation? Southampton are currently doing that and are 3 points clear. What reason is there to sack Adkins?
Maybe you could understand if Southampton had lured a big manager to St Mary's, but it's Pochettino. A man who was doing very averagely with Espanyol and has no history of playing or managing in England. I'm more confused than anything else!

Because rumour has it that as Lambert is on the verge of being sacked.

Harsh doesn't even cover this sacking. I really don't know what more he could have done. The way football is these days it doesn't surprise me but still.
I sincerely hope they fall through the trap door along with QPR.

Re: Odds slashed on Adkins.
The Adkins dismissal is shocking. They can hardly be surprised by the outcry from the Saints fans. I love it how they've tried to make out Pochettino is some kind of excellent, young, exciting manager in the media and Guillem Balague stating, 'it's no surprise he's got the job because he's very talented and smart'. Now the BBC are saying he researched about Southampton for several weeks prior and there trying to make out as if this reinforces everyone's belief in the game that he's very technical and thorough in his management, like a Mourinho or Guardiola and that he knows his stuff. How does he have any idea about the EPL or their players. haha......shocking.
Espanyol........bottom of the league and sacked. That's what Saint fans will look at. Good Luck of Monday vs Everton if they lose. Board under immense pressure from now on

I know the situations aren't directly comparable, but could we be forced to eat our words in a years time in the same way that we had to eat them when Newcastle were widely criticised for sacking Hughton and replacing him with Pardew?
I understand that Pardew had a lot more experience in the PL than Pochettino, but he was hardly considered a top manager either.
West Brom also made the tough choice in sacking Di Matteo when he still had the chance to turn things around and replace him with Roy Hodgson which turned out to be a huge success.

And then regurgitate those words when Pardew is hovering above the relegation zone.
The RDM one doesnt work for me, they needed to change it or they were going down. Southampton were trending upwards and on course for survival.

Re: Odds slashed on Adkins.
They're only 3 points above the relegation zone, and while that's better than where they were a couple of months ago, they're still in a very dangerous position, with Aston Villa, Wigan and Newcastle below them, three pretty much established Premier League clubs. I understand that Pochettino is no more qualified to get them out of this tricky situation than Adkins was, but I don't think it's that different to the Di Matteo-Hodgson switch.

Re: Odds slashed on Adkins.
I guess Nigel Adkins can join Roberto Di Matteo and Sean O'Driscoll in the Managers-Who-Should-Never-Have-Been-Sacked club. There are probably more managers who can go in there.
