Re: Which countries could YOU represent?
I was checking out the Irish census records from 1901 an 1911 online. I can trace back to my great, great grand father on my dads side and my great grandparents on my mothers side.
Not only are they all Irish born, every on of them was born in Dublin. So it’s rather fitting that the only (near) representative honours I had was for the Dublin metropolitan U16’s where I was invited for a second trial but did not quite make the cut.
I found some records regarding my mothers great grand parents which also suggest that they lived in Dublin although I can't be sure where they were born. I'd really like to know when her forebears arrived here as her maiden name is terribly English.

Re: Which countries could YOU represent?
England - birth / Dads side of family as far as can be traced
Wales - Mum (born in Hereford to Welsh parents)
Canada - Residency (5 years+) / impending citizenship
Could have been Sierra Leone based on residency but long since elapsed.

Re: Which countries could YOU represent?
God I'm boring compared to most of you -
England eligible only - born in Yorkshire to Yorkshire-born parents and 3 of 4 Yorkshire-born grandparents. The 4th came all the way from north Lincolnshire...
Did live in Wales for nearly 2 years, but not enough for eligibility by residence.
My niece on the other hand is eligible for England, Germany and Switzerland.

I'm a bit shocked that people from outside gods own county were allowed to marry in to be honest. I bet they were shunned at family events!

England only, although my maternal Grandmother was half Scottish. If you go back through my heritage you can find traces of Welsh, Irish & German too.

Re: Which countries could YOU represent?
Shows how complicated it can be.
I'm English by birth and most of my life.
Aussie as Grandmother born there but only been for 3 weeks so shows its a bit of a joke.
Wales - I lived there for three years. That was the period of Shane Howarth and when that came it out it made sense why my housemate who was selected for Welsh Students was told by someone in the WRU not to worry about where he came from as with a surname like Hughes they'd find something.
With the residency thing do you have to stay there afterwards or am I still eligible?

No it doesn't. Every single one of your great grandparents could be Irish and you wouldn't be Irish qualified. One of your grandparent were born there while parents were on holiday and no problem.

Wales and England. Born in Wales to a Welsh father (well, a Gog) and an English mother. There's some Scottish ancestry on my mother's side and my dad's great-grandfather came to Wales from Ireland to work building the railways.

Scotland by Birth and a maternal lineage of Doric Gardeners right back to Angus McBigDave the 1st, chief shrubery planter for Robert the Bruce.
England by paternal west country grandfather, although hes blended into our ecosystem seamlessly.
If you go further back in his line theres some Arab/Persian in there somewhere.

I support the Roosters and like rugby too so DallyM is a good name.
Don't think Dally qualified for NZ, we just picked him because he was a great player

Re: Which countries could YOU represent?
England by every qualifying characteristic but every bit of a mongrel as most if you go far enough back. Great great grandfather from Ireland so a bit too much of a stretch.
Re: Which countries could YOU represent?
England - birth, mother born there
Wales - father born here, residency
Ireland - Gran (fathers side) born there, Gran (mothers side) born there
I think my neice may qualify for all the home nations as she was born in Scotland.

Grand parents all English but great grand parents include some French, Irish and an unknown random factor... my great grannie had a wartime romance with a commanwealth soldier who never made it passed the Somme. Family legend is he was a native american indian (canadian).
