Classic Film You've Never Seen! Empty Classic Film You've Never Seen!

Post by Stella Tue 29 Jan 2013, 7:51 am

To this day, I still try and persuade a friend to watch The Lord Of The Rings Films but no, he ain't budging.

This got me thinking as to what classic films I've never watched and can't really be bothered with.

Bladerunner - Love Sci-Fi but never seen it.

Apocalypse Now - Again, like a good Vietnam war film.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's nest - Watched the ending thanks to another thread on here but never seen the whole film.

Are there any classics that are still on your to see list?

I haven't seen The Seventh Seal. Have had opportunities to watch it in the past and it's on Netflix but I just haven't ever felt in the right mood at the right time to watch it.

Other than that, Tarvosky's "Nostalgia" which I suspect I'll never get round to watching.

The Godfather (the whole trilogy)

I'd avoid the third if I was you, a travesty in comparison to the first two.

Seen the first and last (not great) but not the second. Many say the second is the best though.

The second is my favourite by some distance. I find it tough to put together a list of my favourite films but Part 2 would always comfortably be in my top 10.

I've never seen any of the Alien films and have no desire to.

I've never seen Blade Runner or Raging Bull but would happily give them a go.

To properly appreciate Citizen Kane watch a few other films from around the same time & you'll get some idea of how far ahead of its time it was. Grapes of Wrath is one of my favourite films (came out the year before CK) but looks like a kid p1ssing about with a camcorder compared to CK. CK isn't exactly near the top of my list of favourites but it's easy to see its impact on cinema.

Certainly some classics there, Hero.

Goodfellas is imo the best of a great bunch.

The original is a masterpiece of suspense. If you don't like science fiction then probably best to leave it, but if you are willing to watch Bladerunner (which is fantastic by the way) then I guess you are not anti the genre?

Alien is dark, menacing and one of the most claustrophobic films I have ever seen. Brilliantly shot and pretty well acted as well. I think the famous scene where the alien first makes its appearance is awesome. Apparently Ridley Scott only told certain members of the crew and the actor who 'housed' the alien what was happening. The rest of the cast had no idea what was going on in that scene and you can tell by their reactions. Save yourself the bother of watching the others as they are get progressively worse. Aliens is just a space based shoot em up, albeit with a couple of classic scenes, and the third one, although it attempts to recover some of the claustrophobic feelings of Alien, the premise is just too far fetched and doesn't live up to the first installment. The less said about the Alien 4 the better. Utter gash in every way.

I have never seen Road to Perdition although everyone tells me how superb it is.

Mind the windows Tino.

I wouldn't bother, Tina. It's only ok.

I'm thinking of starting a new thread called "Superfly's Film reviews in less than 5 words."

I've seen all but the ones in bold and I can honeslty say they are all great films. Apart from Lion King. Thats alright if you like that sort of thing.

I have already bought it though, superfly. It's in the draw at home. I'm way too tight not to watch it eventually, your erudite and all encompassing review notwithstanding.

I'm not really a sci fi fan although I'm not anti sci fi either. I'm not really sure what it is about Aliens, just never fancied it. I find Sigourney Weaver (sp) rather annoying which probably doesn't help.
You do have me slightly intrigued about the first one I guess.
