True, maybe in the next season break.

With my targets and who I've bought recently my squad is becoming increasingly French

Weirdly, me too. Koscielny + Sakho at CB with Cabaye and possibly Diaby ahead of them in CM.

You do get another two TPs before the season starts. You get them on Tuesday. Why the rush?

I have a player I am desperate to sign in the TPs, and I'm praying noone else signs him, so it would suit me to have more as well...

You can't 'remember' something that's not in your memory Zebs. You are honouring. Which is all well and fine, but we get the same tired old clap trap every single year. I can't wait until that crash is finally discarded by the media, it bores me to death having to listen to old people prattle on about it on Talksport / half my morning paper taken up with exactly the same stuff as every single year. It's really boring.

There was an air crash in 2011 involving a Russian ice hockey team. They had a small, simple remembrance service on the 1st anniversary last year, but didn't get the media involved as they didn't want to tarnish the memory of the dead. The way that's been handled is classy, and I think the way the British media dredges up the Munich stuff every year is distasteful and offensive to those who were affected.

Just my opinion like.

Ignoring injuries and a TP or two, my current starting XI for week 1...

Buffon
Arbeloa---Dante/Barzagli---Howedes---Filipe
Marchisio---Pirlo
Affelay---Kroos---Jovetic
Tevez

Dante or Barzagli for second CB? Both have been good this season, so can't decide?

OK not remember than Azzy. Honor.
Its an anniversary date, your going to get it every year. If people choose to honor the Busby Babes by posting a short sentence on a forum, a Facebook/Twitter post whats the big issues?

From what you said you seem to have an issue with how the media treat it. If so then fine, but please dont moan at myself or anyone else who chooses to make a short brief statement in remembrance.

Just like to point out, Remembrance Day is called exactly that but you dont remember, heck none of us here do! (Maybe Fan if he was here lol).
Its all about 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marking end of hostiles & WW1.
Why do we call it Remembrance Day? when we cant remember whats in our memory?

Remembrance Day is a memorial day that remembers all members of the armed forces who have died conflicts, not just WW1. It just happens that we've been doing so since the end of WW1. And these are people really worth remembering too.

I think equating the deaths of many soldiers who died fighting for our country to a football team that went to Germany to play football is a bit of a step to take

They were on their way back from Belgrade and had to change in Munich, if I remember correctly.

Before this escalates...

I don't think he was comparing soldiers to footballers, just using the example that we "remember" soldiers from wars before we were born so equally we can "remember" footballers from before we were born too.

Each person has the right to honour and "remember" whoever they choose, and whether that is right or wrong, others should respect that choice IMO.

As for respecting people's choice to honour/remember whoever they choose, I disagree with that actually. Abu Hamza used to 'honour' the 9/11 'heroes', for which I think public mutiliation isn't a strong enough punishment. There are sick people out there who remember that guy who blinded the copper, who admire the Yorkshire Ripper, and a whole host of other wrong things. I can't respect people who remember/honour things that are just plain wrong.

Okay, there is a line for everything, I agree. I'm not sure people honouring the Munich players is the wrong side of that line though

Most people are tbh GSC, every year my Museum does a small something on the anniversary of Nelson's death - ie the Battle of Trafalgar - and it gets my beard that no-one bothers to attend. We're the bloomin' Maritime Museum, we get paid to work here, we should be out there remembering the greatest maritime hero of all time Doh

Indeed Azzy. But it was still started based on WW1 and 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which none of us remember.

Remembering those of the Munich disaster isnt something I can do, they are not in my memory, i was not even born. But I think because you just have an issue with it you took the term I used (we are remembering) out of context. Everyone here knows what I meant by it. You just wanted to jump on it because you have a problem with it, specifically how the media treat it.
"listen to old people prattle on about it" Id rather listen to OLD People who were around at the time then someone like myself who wasn't even born & all he knows is what hes read. Hence why i dont go on, a brief statement & thats it.
Papers are papers, they spin anything & everything. As I said, your gripe is with how the media treat it fine, I dont see why you have to be negative towards a short sentence from myself or anyone else who wants to honor them.

It's because I don't see it as something worth remembering Zebs is all. It was a bunch of footballers in a crash, there were plenty of plane crashes before then and even more since. I honestly don't see why every year such a big thing is made out of it, when there are (to me) many more far more important things we could be remembering.

Feel free to do it though, it's not you that offends me kiss

nationwide coverage
GSC, I understand your point of view on that. Thats fair enough. With Man United being as big as they are the media are always going to give it a lot of coverage. Thats just how the media works.

Edit: not saying its justified, just pointing out the media aspect.

Well there really is no chance of the circumstances being such that an event like this would happen again. No team in the modern era will ever be that young / talented, never mind then succumb to a fatal crash. It just wouldn't happen.

But if the West Brom team plane crashed this weekend, I'd expect the following:

Memorial service
Various re-namings of things like stands / boxes / roads
1st anniversary = big deal
After that, nothing. Small stuff through the club each year, maybe something in the programme each season.

Absolutely nothing like what still goes on to this day for Munich. It's really incredible how the media still thinks it's relevant.

Sorry to be a party pooper btw, I just can't stand this day every year. I'm off to KFC for lunch and I know already that the copy of the Daily Star I'm buying to read while eating will be plastered with the stuff Sad
