Frampton v Martinez - Page 3 Empty Frampton v Martinez

Post by alanqlm Fri 08 Feb 2013, 12:19 am

First topic message reminder :

Hey guys, first time back in a brave while.

Heading to the Odyssey on Saturday night for this after the other half decided she would be rather pleasant and got me tickets.

Surprised to see there ain't been much chat about it on here. Guessing Reeborn has disappeared too. Anybody have any details on the weigh in tomorrow as I'll be in Belfast and wouldn't mind paying a visit.

Yea mate, he stumbled backwards, but iv seen refs straighten fighters up and look into their eyes. I think he shud have seen how Martinez reacted to frampton trying to close the show before waving it off. You can guarantee Frampton would have been given a chance to get his legs back.

And I'm saying this as a massive Frampton fan!

Thought Kiko done brillient

Was also great to listen to Bernard Dunne as pundit. Very refreshing.

Better than McCrory (which isn't hard).

Stopped correctly in my view. He struggled to get up by 8, and when he did, nthe ref asked for his gloves to show he was okay, and he just stumbled back half way across the ring and held the ropes to stay up.

That punch must have contained some almighty power.

To have never been stopped, to getting sparked out in the 9th round of a brutal type fight against a prospect who was relatively untested is madness power.

I think Carl can really go all the way. Quigg in next 12 months before stepping to the states for a Top 10 fighter.

Does anyone else think Frampton was getting away with ducking at the waist too much? I noticed that alot of the time Martinez got in close to him and was ready to open up, Frampton would just duck down forcing the ref to break them and not gving Martinez a fair target to hit.

I think the Ref Noticed it as well. He gave him a warning for it. Most importantly, it had no effect on the outcome. Frampton would have been the winner regardless.

It looks like Frampton would have won once the fight went past half way. But he was made uncomfortable at the start and given how open he fights, and that when he did stay upright Martinez was able to find him early in the fight, I still feel that the doubling over tactic did prove very beneficial to him when Martinez was coming on strong. Probably wouldnt have changed the outcome, but might have made the fight that much tougher.
