Re: Does anyone think this site will take off when 606 closes?
thanks for your words of encouragement
AS for the soccer pages, it was a conscious decision to not actively promote our site to them as that is where most of the wums reside.
Out of 1500 members, we have had 4 wums. If you after football chat, I would suggest going to look at not606. I hope its everything you want.
This site is still fairly new, and out of all of the multi sport sites to have popped up since the announcement for 606 to close, this is the busiest. However, the rugby board on 606 is by far the busiest one left, and the majority of fans are staying there till the bitter end.
The members on here, that still post on 606 as well have confirmed that there will be alarge contingent moving across from 606 when it closes to 606v2.
I hope you persevere with here - if everyone has the same attitude that this is a failure, people wont join and the rugby board will fail.
This will be the best multisport forum once the BBC606 closes - that I am confident about.

Re: Does anyone think this site will take off when 606 closes?
Most rugby fans I think will move here once bbc606 closes. Most of the WUMS who were on 606 were on the soccer boards and a lot of them seem to have moved to not606. WUMS don't seem to be tolerated as much here so I'd imagine most fans will come here after may 26th to get away from them. Even most the American Football fans from 606 I know of have chosen v2 over not606.

Well old 606 appears to be closed at the moment...no one can sign in except one or two people based outside the UK...

Mafia - I think it would be much more realistic to say that it is too early to judge success/failure as a genuinely multi-sport site. There's masses of posts on boxing and wrestling. Other sports also are beginning to do quite well, such as golf.
I guess it's all about momentum, particularly when 606 closes. For example, I'd say the cricket site was "on the runway". There's some good stuff on the pages here, and with perhaps a couple of dozen more regular posters it would probably take off in a big way. I'm hopeful of some more company from some equally depressed Surrey supporters, anyway!

I would suggest that everyone tries to post as often as possible, even if it's only a line or two. That might convince those just glancing at the site that it has a bit more life in it than has appeared up until now. It might even convince them to move here a bit earlier.

Re: Does anyone think this site will take off when 606 closes?
The problem is that whenever the admins try and advertise on 606, we get shot down as spamming.
Its up to the regular members of their respective boards to help spread the word.
Mr Scotland has started back up the "best ever" polls and that should get us back in the limelight.
But the real work needs to be done by you guys - we have used up all of our goodwill months ago. Tell your friends from 606 to come over. Make sure you do what you can.
We are trying to get link ups with sports clubs and using things like facebook and twitter to promote when 606 closes - I dont think any of the other forums are doing anything like this.
If you have any links to rugby clubs, let us know and we will approach them.

Re: Does anyone think this site will take off when 606 closes?
Gaining over 1,500 members in 3 months with almost 80,000 posts is a massive achievement. I dont know of any other forums that have grown a new membership as fast as v2.
The hardcore fans are staying on 606 until the bitter end before jumping ship. And as Hobo says, word of mouth from existing members is the best marketing tool available. Spread the word guys

Yes of course it's quiet on the rugby page, most guys including me still post there too......oops sorry, must include the other gender too.
But, of late the Beeb's version has gone quieter, with less quality threads but still as many wums, and it's the lack of idiot wumming that attracts me.
Arguments about the merit of your argument are fine, but the constant sneering and slagging just turn me off.
Best thing i've done in some time is to find v2, and over time I've told many about it and I'm pretty sure that most of the sensible posters will come over.
Keep an eye out for the likes of MBTGOG, Red-stag,Munsters rebel. Geoff99, beshocked, JB1973, Ospreydragon, Alyn Davies ( he's here) , Miaow, Monte_fisto,Pugh XXXXX,Rhino Dragon, Risga Dragiau and others. All are decent punters who will have a good discussion about rugby. Flyhalffactory is a good Scotsman who worked in Wales for a while and does bring a refreshing view of the potboiler that is Welsh rugby.
I've spread the word to all of those mentioned and more, most have confirmed that they have, or will, come over, but reminding will not hurt.

I hope people do jump ship soon because this is a really great site but would be better with a busy rugby board.

Re: Does anyone think this site will take off when 606 closes?
Could be sooner rather than later - old 606 has been pretty much closed today - right after I got modded for calling Gavin Henson orange and saying we'd have a hard time spotting him in Llanelli given the large number of peeps here opting for fake tans. I don't think the BBC understands self-effacing humour

To be honest, I think the site's just accommodating some other event going on today. It'll be fine later today or tomorrow. Should be closed altogether on 26th May.

See, this is the nonsense I won't miss about 606. There is a massive event going on today, and whether you're supporting the Dragons or the Blues in it you want to be on 606 chatting about it ;-)

Does this mean I can't say Greg Poops (who's line is it anyway) here?

Well, all I know is one minuite I saw a post with the word "poop" in it, the next it had disappeared and a new post by the offending author saying "What?! You still can't swear on this site" .... draw your own conclusion.

I still go on 606 out of pure habbit. Though I try to remember to log on here and have a look round. I will move here when 606 closes, I think the problem is most of us still use 606 while it's there.

I'm the same Alyn, although I have started to use this site more but I still use 606 most of the time instead. When that goes a lot of people will remember to use this place, so it'll get a lot busier soon I'm sure!

Hobo & Co. Have no fear man. When we transfer to here, you had better up your server bandwidth. And that's just for my waffle.
It will all kick-off on the rugby blogs on here, soon after Leinster win the Heineken Cup and 606 closes down for good.
Please be aware of total and utter WUM gobshoites, who will do their best to feck it all up on you and us. When the time comes, I hope our Pub regulars and all the good rugby posters on 606, will help you identify them. Although, they will soon readily identify themselves.
In the meantime... best of luck with this. It will grow if ye mind it. It will work.
Believe.

Gibson, howdo.
I've just put my last post on 606 :run2:
Been on here for a while and i love it....no wums, good chat just a little lacking in differences of opinion yet.
So here's one.
Leinster will win the Heiny ( you lucky swine...............oh, sorry nothin to do with luck, that's for us O's fans) but will also fall to the Ospreys at the RDS in the Magners final, just like last year.
got to be shared around see.

Ospreys just have the little matter of Munster at Thomond Park first. Although if you feel so strongly about sharing, is that why Ospreys are "sharing" all their best players with other teams?

Ospreylian,
I am thinking, it may just end up being a repeat of last years Final. Man, ye really turned us over that day. Fully deserved. I was there for an end of season partaaay. Thanks for spoiling it for us. ;-)
Ye played great that day. Bowe was on fire. As were most of the team.
We owe you one... ;-)

I think this site will take some time to develop as the rugby season is ending at the same time as 606. The build up to the RWC will be the time to see the growth of this site from a RU perspective.
Great to see some familiar and sensible names on here from 606

Welcome aboard Gibson and Glamorganalun
We are going to do our best to keep the wums at bay but I should remind you all that it is all of our responsibility to report any WUM activity.
The admin and moderation team (rugbydreamer and ospreylian) will do our best to keep an eye on things, but unlike 606, we are very visible and approachable on here. We set this up to make it a community spirit with clear guidleines as to what is acceptable and not.
We encourage banter and heated debate - what we dont want are people insulting each other and getting personal. the reason I bring this up is that I dont people being reported as WUMs just because they disagree with someone elses opinion - we are all big boys and girls and can take a bit of banter. however, I think we all know when people overstep the mark and make insulting comments for the sake of it.
So, I am glad you have all made the move over here - please feel to drop any of us PMs regarding any questions/ issues/ suggestions you have and we will see what we can do.
Oh - dont forget to tell others about here!
Re: Does anyone think this site will take off when 606 closes?
Hobo,
Thanks man. Ah sure banter and taking de pish is all an essential part of it. Its just when people have vendettas on each other (like on 606) - its gets really silly and tiresome.
Good to see Dreamer and Ospreylian are keeping an eye on things too. Good team. <ok>

I've heard so many people complaining that's it's too quiet on this forum. If they all just posted rather than waiting for someone else to do something to entertain them things would be much busier around here. If nobody posts because no one else has yet, how will it ever take off? Since I joined I have tried to post as often as I can, even if I don't have a huge amount to say, because the only way to get a response is to ask the question in the first place. So stop complaining and get typing!

Absolutely!
Its a chicken and egg situation - if you post something, people are likely to respond. This will in turn attract others.
Re: Does anyone think this site will take off when 606 closes?
I followed the link in your article "Call to Action" and the number of people saying it's too quiet was maddening.
