Afro, Rooney was helping defensively a lot of the time. Its clear he was deployed as a out & out striker last night.
Welbeck, either using his pace on the break as the furthest forward or was helping out defensively too.

The gameplan may of changed as the match went on as we didnt have a lot of possession & were on the back foot a lot. Both were helping defensively, whether or not they were instructed to pre kick off it certainly seemed they were told too as the minutes ticked by.

Ozil was fantastic. Tormented Rafael. Was it Afro who said yday he would be the main threat ahead of Ronnie? or the next biggest? anyway someone said yday to watch him.

No, I have a friend who is somewhat of an upper decker maestro. It came up in conversation with him this morning and I just wondered how many people are aware of what they are...

Ramos is immense, I can't believe people wouldn't have him in their team.

Mine would be close to Zinedine's, except I would definately find a space for Ozil. Probably ahead of Rooney or Valencia. The guy has improved so much since he went to Madrid and if United focus too much on Ronaldo, then Ozil is going to kill you

My time in Madrid and my close working with the guys over there still means I keep well on top of Spanish, and particularly Madrilenos, football Ok!

For those who don't know what an upper decker is, it is when you take a number 2 in the cistern of a toilet, as opposed to the more convention bowl route.

He has indeed. Injury didnt help. Hoping he can get an extended run of matches now & pick up some form.
I still think he will come good. Hes got the ability so more games should bring out the best

He has had a lot of injuries, so he probably needs time to get back up to full steam, but yeah, he currently looks half the player to when he was at Dortmund.

I was amazed that Kagawa got the start last night, such a big game and he offers nothing.

Was also surprised to see Pepe on the bench, I'd have thought they'd have wanted him at the back instead of Varane...I think they will make that change for the second leg.

What should United do about Rafael? Put Smalling at RB maybe?

Speaking of Dortmund, they got lucky last night. Lew's goal was a joke, and the marking on Hummels was dire. Very lucky to come away with a 2-2 draw.

haha, you talk like it a huge problem Azzy, tbf id expect nothing less from you to put a Man United player down to the extent of not fit enough to play top level football.
Nah, id leave him in, get Valencia on the right to help him out when Coentrao gets forward.

The guy got terrorised by Ronaldo & Ozil. Im pretty sure hes not the only one whos had that happen to him.

Once again, the ref at full time. Did no one think it was silly to give the corner then not allow us to take it?

It was probably sillier to assume that the corner could be taken super slowly. The added time is the added time, and when the 3 minutes were up he could blow the whistle. I looked at the clock and there were 30 seconds left when the corner was given. Ample time to take it.

Rafael consistently fails to perform when needed most, don't blame me for his failings. He might have been up against two world class players, but Fergie must then also take some of the blame for Rafa's performance by failing to provide tactical support for him.

I still think Real will win the tie, probably 2-2 AET at OT.

Ive changed my mind from Rooney being in the second tier of footballers to a mid/high range third tier. How many times has SAF played Rooney in the wide positions in the biggest of games?

Rooney was poor defensively he was too slow to close down the cross for Ronaldos goal and Contentrao kept getting passed hi. Tactically he didn't know what to do even if he ran alot.

I didn't truly realise how good RVP was until he joined United.

Why not just blow full time when the save was made.

Well there were 3 minutes of added time, United dawdled and it expired. If he blows the whistle then there isn't much you can do. If he had blown at 2 minutes there would be anger.

If it was Fifa it would let you take the corner though

I was at an Intertoto Cup game between Villa and Celta Vigo years ago, played at Albion's ground because they found asbestos in the Doug Ellis Stand...the clock stopped on 88mins and the ref blew for full time! At least 6/7mins early due to the injuries and ridiculous red cards he was giving out (one guy got sent off for a foul throw, I kid you not).

Always interesting to read Spanish media's opinions on the game. Welbeck is being praised, as is De Gea.

They seem to feel the ref made two mistakes that cost them though. Jones fouling Di Maria in the box (it was a little rough in truth) and the corner being incorrectly awarded. No mention of Evra being taken down though.

Soddy, I didnt think there was much left on the clock but I would of though the Ref would of allowed us to play the corner and see that out before blowing for full time.

Azzy? huh, whats that about lolol. Because of injuries & cards the ref stopped the match early?
