Magic the Gathering and other CCGs Empty Magic the Gathering and other CCGs

Post by Hero Thu 14 Feb 2013, 6:24 pm

Not really sure where to put this thread as the game itself isn't a computer game but has had several computer game versions of it over the years.

Basically is there anyone else out there that was or still is a player of Magic the Gathering or any of the other collectible card games that have come out over the years?

Why the interest? Is there a story behind the question?

Well I was a huge MTG player back in the day so wondered if anyone else also has played it, also played Legend of the 5 rings and Doomtown.

I will be honest that when you have mentioned it in the past, I had never heard of it. Is it like Top Trumps?

In that you use cards and they have numbers on them and some are better than others then yes.
But in the example of Magic the Gathering you have 20 years worth of cards where each year they release probably 600-1000 different cards that can all be used to make custom decks.

I used to play magic a fair bit back in school. Sadly my mates who played went off to uni, and it was too complex a game for the ones who were left (hence they didn't go to uni).

I have the last three versions they released for download on the PS3, but it is not really the same. Their decks are more or less pre-designed, and whilst you can add and remove cards, it is still within the confined pre-ordained deck style. I would love to be able to just design one from scratch like I did back in the day when I had real people to play against, with real cards, rather than just a machine.

I used to be a huge player of that too, started off with a Phoenix deck that had all the Ancestral Swords in it, then moved onto Unicorn before settling for a long while on Corrupt Lion. I was fave to win the UK tournament with my deck one year but proceeded to get drunk before my semi final and ballsed up a move.

Dabbled before. Remember having a card called exoskeletal armour, depending on how many forests you had in play, they added to your attack and defence and more or less made the selected card invincible.

When I was on my holidays, the local wifi made the adverts at the top of the homepage come up with "Magic the Gathering Online" ads!

I've seen Hero playing this on XBOX, what's the idea behind it? Sounds intriguing.

I downloaded Magic 2014 on PS3 last night, it's not the same as playing with the cards, but definatley those console versions improve with every incarnation.
