606v2's very own sport?
Evening all,
Blame it on a sofa day after a heavy night but for a bit of light entertainment I have been wondering if the forum could come up with it's very own sport. After all not too many new sports come along these days and in the past they probably came about due to bordem and an urge to do something new. Who knows in 60 years time we could be seeing it at the olympics. All of us have been brought here by our mutual love of sport. It's probably the only thing we can actually all agree on. So think big guys.
Would you have it as an individual sport or a team one? If it's a team what would be the ideal number of players? Would it be on a pitch or a court or a table etc. What would be the aim? Would it be points based or goals? Would it be contact? Would it feature a ball. If we were to take it to the olympics would it need to be easily accessible to all to make it globally appealing? Would bonus points be given to the most ingenious way of cheating to avoid the sport becoming corrupt (everyone loves contraversy!)
Finally just to add to the interest, which city would be the ideal arena for our sport to be unveiled at the olympics?
So could someone make the first suggestion and we will go from there.
I'm looking forward to the first 606v2 sport already.

Re: 606v2's very own sport?
I forgot to update this at the back end of last year. On holiday in Portugal I was one of the founding members of the pool kerbie cup championship. The competition was fierce. There were controversies (I had a win taken off my for diving in to the pool before the competition was ruled complete apparently). Rules were tweaked to make the sport better. Even a double kerbie catch was achieved! But all in all it was a success and there a plans to take it on the road again. Happy days.

Kerbie.........great childhood memories!
Am only 30 and still find myself saying 'in my day....' we didn't need to be spoon fed entertainment at youth centres and the like (the closure of some was used by some on the loony-left to try justify to 2011 riots), just a football and something to bounce it off and we could keep occupied (and not going round stabbing, mugging, vandalising or arsoning) for ages.

To be fair, Toppy, sinkholes, giant potholes and torrents of water probably make kerbie as lethal as a stabbing off a hooded chav.

Tophat - that was a subtle request for you to stay off the road, every time you stop for more than 5 seconds, the road is left unusable.
Re: 606v2's very own sport?
If 606v2 had a sport it would probably be getting threads removed from the off topic section...

Oh take no notice of Sodhat, he is an angry little boy going around the forum taking shots at people.

I deny nothing
Although that wasn't a shot, I mean if there was a champioship, v2 would be right up among the frontrunners

Politician boxing. Politician announces his campaign pleadges then takes a punch for every time he fails to keep to it.
Re: 606v2's very own sport?
DC takes a battering whilst Ed gets declared an NC as he never announces a policy.

To be honest - he's wiser not to - Tories are doing a bad enough job of it themselves They should put me in charge.
Re: 606v2's very own sport?
12 months ago that would've been correct, Ed was laughing all the way to the bank/GE victory watching the Tories implode, but roles have reversed now. Ed is back-peddling, Labour are having to keep reinventing their key catchphrases/policies as the economic data unravels them and they've had PR issues such as Ed's dithering over the recent strikes and the increasingly negative TU image (Ed actually trying his best to distance from).
And we've still over a year to go.......

Dunno - reckon this flooding lark might have undone all the positive spin theyve done over the last few months?
Re: 606v2's very own sport?
Hasn't helped, hence the heavy offensive the last 24hrs ('money no object', business rate relief etc).
Think they should bow to pressure on the foreign aid budget personally, cutting the 0.7% to 0.5% should curry favour with their traditional demographic and win a few populist votes whilst only Wee weeing off lefties who probably wouldn't vote blue anyway.
PS: Give this thread 10 mins before being closed......

They need to get rid of Paterson - all very well blaming smith but Paterson is the face and ditto on the foreign aid - but I don't think they can do it now without it being another loss on the pr front
Re: 606v2's very own sport?
Think Gove is a PR nightmare also, that teacher 10hr day thing was just silly, provocative and unhelpful.

By-election in Wythenshawe and Sale East tomorrow.
Labour set to hold; UKIP expected to come second ahead of the Tories.

Gove is second behind May in the next leader stakes...
He's canny..Appeal to your base now with Cameron in trouble...

pool kerbie was even better mate. Alcohol was aloud. There were bakini wearing cheer squad. On top of that the referee who was a bit of a stickler got burnt in the sun. Everyone was happy. :-)

Labour don't like it up 'em!

In that case can we create some more sports quickly? I don't have the money to go abroad too often for pool kerbie. Although I shall be introducing it to a stag do im going on when the venue is picked :-)

Random fact of the day:
The UK Independence Party (who don't support gay marriage) follow Tom Daley (recently out of the closet) on social networking site Twitter.

It hasn't. I haven't seen anything that remotely resembles a "debate", political or otherwise.
If it's a sport you're after, we could give something like Shopping Trolley Jousting a go. Two "knights" sits in shopping trolleys at each end of the Lists, with sharpened broom handles for lances and dustbin lids for shields. Their "squires" push them so that they charge towards each other......... The one who avoids / survives being impaled is the winner.
Other events for our Olympic entry might include
The Tea Tray Luge, where the competitors sit on a tin tea tray at the top of a flight of stairs and push off. The one who gets to the bottom without falling off or suffering spinal damage wins. The truly adventurous / barking mad may attempt this as a Skeleton Bob event.
The Beer Bungie Game. Attach one end of a bungee rope to a wall, tree or large table with people sitting on it and the other end to the ankle of the person playing. Put a beer (glass of white wine or fruit based drink for the ladies) on a table about 1 1/2 times the length of the bungee away (adjust as necessary). Quite simply the person must reach the beer and drink it. The degree of difficulty can be enhanced by placing a shiny, smooth plastic mat down and splashing soapy water the length of it. For some strange reason I can't explain, the latter element seems to have made the white tee shirt women's event especially popular with spectators.

To steal an idea from Jack Dee. what about Bungee Climbing? Anchor the cord at the bottom of a mountain and someone climbs as far up it as they can before they're dash to pieces on the rocks below.

Ahhhh, so that's what it is. I thought that, considering it comes from UKIP, I thought the bad smell was just halitosis.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I'm afraid to say when at uni I did participate in ironing board luge, which led to me nearly cracking my head open on a wall at the bottom of the stairs. We also raced down hill on desk chairs (again leading to injury, flat mate this time though). Other than that university was a very useful, very valued education......
