Parisse and Edwards
First topic message reminder :
Shaun Edwards, Wales assistant coach has weighed into the Parisse disciplinary case in the media before the hearing on wednesday. Edwards basically said " he has form for this offence"
What do you think of this???
I think 3 things:
1. it stinks and he should not be doing this i.e trying to influence the disciplinary people. its not rugby culture to do this - more football culture;
2. previous form is only relevant to penalty and cant be used to decide whether he did it this time or not so it is wrong for anyone to be publicly talking about it;
3. it shows how worried wales are about parisse and Italy.
p.s I know Edwards is English.
p.p.s this welsh regime love to commentate on what is going on with other teams - they did it a fair bit re england rwc2011 (and Fatland has only just brought it up again!!!!!) and now this.
They need to worry about themselves a little bit more !

if italy play their best match and wales are 62.5 % of their best, wales will win with a struggle.

No, because this is an almost entirely different team with different management.

It is quite lenient, i think Neil Back got six months for pushing a ref.

30 days? That's longer than Healy
I can completely understand the need for the respect of officials, but the inconsistency and length of bans is becoming random.

Edwards, Howley and Gatland?
What a joke 30 days reduced from 40? What did he say I know where you live and i'm going to have my wicked way with your wife?

And Healy got a 2 match ban for trying to break another player's leg.
Of course Parisse's punishment is lenient

Nonsense. Look up 'propensity' in the dictionary. Why do you think the Police bother to keep records of offending?

Re: Parisse and Edwards
It is somewhat foolish ot compare Healy and Parisse's censure.
Respect for the referee is what sets rugby apart from other sports, on e in particular springs to mind, wtaching players kettle a ref and abuse him sickens me and Parisse's words, whatever the feck they were, must have crossed a line. That someone of his stature, and the Captain, should even engage in that sort of conduct suprises me but it is the thin end of the wedge and must be stopped before we have a situation where rugby becomes just like that other sport.
As for Healy, a disgraceful stamp, simple as that. I am not familiar with the rules used to determine sentences but I am sure that the intent and effect...resultant injury are considered but i doubt him stamping on a leg - even if it was the ankle - are regarded as too bad. Props stamping on props is like actors kissing each other on the cheeks, its a way of introducing yourself.

Re: Parisse and Edwards
Slightly surprised that Edwards commented to the media on this in the way he did, but I don't think you can say he's it's not right for rugby people to criticise players who have a go at the ref. It's one of the obvious cultural differences with footballers - rugby players respect the ref and do not indulge in back chat. No question. Parrise is a great player but has increasingly been indulging in football type antics in recent years . Several games spring to mind - twice, like the worst footballer, DIVING against England in 2012 6N (quite shocking I thought and rightly criticised by Dallaglio on BBC commentary at the time); lots of backchat in the match against Wales last year; similar behaviour against Scotland a few weeks ago. Just a few examples but fair to say probably quite typical so I wasn't surprised when I heard about the recent incident. Other rugby players don't behave like this. Incan't really think of any apart from Mirco Bergamasco (and I like Italy otherwise!). Edwards may have spoken a bit too freely and I don't know whether Parisse deserved to be sent off for this particular incident but let's not start condoning the creeping into rugby of non-rugby antics where refs are concerned, I suspect Shaun Edwards understands rugby "culture" very well, to be fair.

Stamping and rucking are two differetn things, read the rules and lets have a referee determine this one.

Not really. Wales won and good luck to them. Clearly Italy missed Parisse, but Rome isn't an easy place to go and win. I still don't think Wales are playing anywhere close to their full potential and still may struggle against Scotland and England.

Fair comment Jimpster. I don't think the game plan will change much from here on in and should be enough to beat Scotland. We need to improve ten-fold and pull something else out of the hat for England though.
