Mayweather Approves 6 Fighters As Opponents For His Showtime Deal
"By Jeff Sorby: According to Ron Borges, Floyd Mayweather Jr. already has six opponents he’s approved for his six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS for him to face within 30 months. These are the fighters that Mayweather has approved: Alfredo Angulo, Devon Alexander, Robert Guerrero, Saul Alvarez, Marcos Maidana and Danny Garcia.
Mayweather is already scheduled to fight Guerrero on May 4th, but it’s unclear how reliable this list is or whether he’ll stick to facing just these guys rather than other fighters that aren’t on the list.
The six-fighter list makes a lot of sense because all of those fighters are from Golden Boy Promotions, and that’s who Mayweather is working with. I would be a little skeptical about the list if there were Top Rank fighters on there like Brandon Rios, Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley.
If this list is the guys that Mayweather will in fact be facing for his six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS then you’ve got to figure Mayweather got a really good deal with Showtime because he’s only got one tough fighter on the list and that’s Saul Alvarez. The rest of them are totally beatable opponents. Alexander is a good fighter, but he’s not in Mayweather’s class even at this stage in his career...................."

i dont see the big whoop about guerrero, the berto fight was ugly, and floyd wouldnt let guerrero get anywhere near that close to him. as soon as he does, (as berto showed) mayweather will be landing straight rights and right uppercuts and moving out. guerrero give mayweather no problems whatsoever.

Floyd will be the bigger stronger man against Guerrero so don't think he's going to get bullied on the inside, against Castillo which was 10 years ago he was the smaller, weaker man who could be bullied.

Mayweather is too big and too fast for Guererro, I haven't really been impressed with him at Welterweight tbh. He beat Berto, but took quite a hiding himself in the process, he won't be able to bully Mayweather like some people believe and Mayweather will win UD with a stoppage as a possibility.
If Mayweather decides to fight like he did against Cotto, its going to be a great fight though!

More on topic but I do think that this is a decent list of opponents, nothing awe inspiring but anyone with Top Rank can be ruled out straight away.
Much depends on what they all do and other than Alvarez I would agree they don't pose a massive threat but Garcia and Alexander are among the best around the weight class. Khan was seen as a legitimate challenger not so long ago so naturally the man who beat him becomes legitimate himself. I doubt he'll fight Maidana or Angulo as I don't see the money in it.

Re: Mayweather Approves 6 Fighters As Opponents For His Showtime Deal
Its a complete waste of time list in my opinion. Whats the point of selecting 6 opponents now. Especially scraping the barrell for Maidana or Angulo. The landscape in boxing changes quickly. At the moment only Alvarez from that list is a big fight for me. And Alvarez isnt even certain to get past Trout. Mayweather should fight guys on the basis of where they are where they are out. Alot of those guys might not even win their next fight never mind threaten Mayweather. The only possible reason I can think for doing this is that Mayweather has just been given a big garauntee of payments and now it doesnt matter much who he fights as the money is all the same.
He should fight Guerrero, and assuming he wins then look to fight Alvarez if he comes through Trout. That would be a big fight. After that have a look and see who is available and worthwhile.

Guerrero and Alvarez are the only two boxers who add much to his legacy at the moment.
Guerrero, Alvarez, Lara or Kirkland, Trout and two of Garcia, Khan and Matthyse would be more preferential.

alfredo angulo: poorest fighter on the list, don't know what he's done to even deserve a spot on the list.
marcus maidana: great action fighter, and a tough nut, so would make for a entertaining if one sided fight.
saul alveraz: the biggest chance of anyone on the list of upsetting the odds, and i think saul would have the chin, size and power to stop floyd.
devon alexander: great boxer, but lacking in heart. similar fight to mayweather vs judah, alexander will start well but fail over the distance.
danny garica: good win, but made for mayweather really. give him nothing more than a punchers chance.
robert gurrero: the only other boxer on the list that has a chance of winning, see it sort of a 50/50 fight, gurrero could rough him up and make it a fight like cotto did, but floyd might just box of the back foot and make him look silly.
all in all i think if he fights and beats the lot then he will add to the legacy, apart from angulo, which is pointless. if he didn't meet alvarez however then the list really loses its sparkle.

In my mind probably knock him around with both fists rather than just the right.

Hmmm, lot of small guys on the list. I'm staggered anyone gives Guerrero a prayer against floyd. I know he looked like the legs might be going against cotto, but Guerrero couldn't be more made for him. If floyd doesn't win at a canter, its because the year's have got him, not the opponent.

i cant see anyone on that list that troubles floyd right now. canelo could, but from what we've seen so far, no. trout will answer questions.

Re: Mayweather Approves 6 Fighters As Opponents For His Showtime Deal
A poor list. Maidana and Angulo would be like a pair of lambs to the slaughter. Not sure why they are on there at all. Gracia is a good counter puncher but Floyd is better, and better everywhere else. Everything Alexander does Floyd does 10x better. Guererro is a decent-ish fight, happy to accept that one. Canelo is intriguing because the size/strength thing. I wonder why Bradley isn't on the list - more deserving than any of them (although not an overly exciting prospect as a fight imo).
The Alvarez/Trout winner is a legitimate fight for Floyd. What we really all want to see is Floyd vs Martinez at 154.

The sixth fight on this list could be six years away and the fighter could long be retired. A pointless list that will not come to fruition. Wouldn't read to much into it as Mayweather could retire at any time.

i meant 50 50 in the way the fight will go- either mayweather will engage like he did with cotto, staying infront of him, and trading with him. the other been floyd dancing rings around him for 12 rounds.
if the latter happens then gurrero won't stand a chance, but if its the former then i give him good a chance as any as roughing up floyd, and outworking him for the win. you would have to put mayweather a heavy favourite, but i can genuinely see the upset if floyd decides to fight instead of box.
