Ouch...
One of our opponents popped their shoulder out on the 3rd tee this morning. Poor guy was in agony for a couple of minutes while my partner tried to help pop it back in its socket. He then promptly fainted for a few seconds. Not pleasant to watch at all. Hopefully he'll make a quick recovery and won't miss too much of the season.

Re: Ouch...
The pain would turn off like a switch once so he was probably very relieved once it was back in Ban. Depending upon how much manipulation it needed to it get back in will determine how much rehabilitation it will need. Lots of theraband work on the rotorcuffs will be needed to help stabilise the joint.
How did he do it? Did he fall over and land awkwardly or after hitting a shot? Do you know if he went to hospital, depending upon how it went back in he could end up with nerve damage, he should get it checked out even if it's just to get some things to work on for his recovery.

Re: Ouch...
It was during his actual swing. Left shoulder, so it must have popped out on the transition from back to downswing. I suspect the follow through threw it out even further. Apparently its happened to him a couple of times before, though not during golf, but on both previous occasions it only popped out a little and slipped back in quickly. I guess the downswing was the key difference this time. He went straight to hospital. Just heard back that he's been strapped up and going to a specialist for muscle strengthening this week.

Ah so it was like the badminton overhead smash where the arm keeps on going; lovely. He may be out for longer than he thinks and it may ultimately need surgery to tighten it up. When I was strapped up in a blue sling and with the white straps crossed over in the right position it looked like I was carrying a Scottish handbag.

Yes indeed. He was talking about expecting to be out for at least a couple of months - hopefully it won't be worse and hopefully won't need surgery.

Re: Ouch...
I was off work for 10 weeks after surgery, during that time I was seeing a physio 3 times a week for the first six weeks or so, then twice a week before returning to work. First day back at work I slipped on the second bottom step of the stairs and I grabbed the bannister instinctively. It hurt like and was similar to dislocation pain but the joint never moved. Needed a few more weeks of physio after that but everything seems to be very good. I have lost some range of motion; I can't reach anywhere near as far behind my back but it is still slowly improving after 16 years.

Sounds painful! If he's done this multiple times, he'll be better off having it fixed properly via surgery. It'll just keep happening otherwise.barragan wrote:Yes indeed. Re: Ouch...
That's why I needed surgery in the end, I could slide it out by rolling over in bed

Re: Ouch...
Thanks Ban. A lot of my problems came from not really knowing what happened the first time. Well meaning friends were trying to check if I'd broken something so my arm was moved in so many ways further stretching weakened muscles and ligaments. Mine were all in a period of about six months. I had it go out twice, including the badminton smash, where I needed medical assistance to get it back in. Another where it was out and slid back in as I tried to get up but that was after about 30 seconds of excrutiating pain. Rolling over in bed proved problematic if I wasn't paying attention. The final straw was when I nearly had it go when I slipped whilst doing press ups; I was able to land on the shoulder and knock it back in. I've never regretted the surgery and probably wish I did it sooner. I wouldn't wish that pain on anybody.
