I think people comparing to Keane on Haaland have to remember that Keane maliciously went to injure Haaland, he should have been imprisoned really, where as it's quite clear McManaman went for the ball, he went in with too much force but not even in the same ball park as Keane's literal assault on Haaland.

Based on your posting history I could say you don't like discussion and insult people that disagree with you as you aren't able to have a decent discussion but I'm not that flippant.
Enjoy the rest of the game.

If you go in (both) feet first above knee height on a player what else are you expecting other than to injure him.

Wigan really need to go for the win here. A point is not enough.

He didn't do that though did he? He went to kick the ball - he swings his instep at it fairly obviously and the fullback toes it out of the way.
He went in very hard and clattered him afterwards and probably should have been sent off but I'm not having it that he two footed him above the knee deliberately - that is nonsense.

I understand you are aggrieved one of your players has been injured but there is no need to get personal.
If you can't come up with a reply that is fine.

Some people have called for a 5 game ban and compared it to Keane on Haaland.

Having lived in Wigan I have a real soft spot for them even though it contrasts with my over all wish for premier league football.
Hope they can hold on, very dodgy handball call (or lack of) though.

I think it's very romantic what they get up to.
Last year was one of the best bits of management I've seen in a long time the way Martinez restructured the team and tactics to get such a great run of results.

It's good that the ref also missed the handball. Think he's got Wigan on his bet today.

I just want the bottom 3 to be cut adrift so we don't really have to worry at all about relegation.
Inevitable they would win today tho

We will see in the coming days.
You have to remember Andy Cole had both of this legs broken by Razor Ruddock in a reserve game, threatening his career, so he isn't going to be objective in this.
Don't get me wrong, I feel sorry for the lad and it was probably a red card - just don't think it was as disgraceful as people are painting.
As Martinez said, these things unfortunately happen. Wigan have had 2 breaks this season.

I agree with Ent on this one, he's clearly gone for the ball and unfortunately for him the other players has just nicked the ball away first. It probably should have been a red card for dangerous play but it's not at all deliberate and if he'd have just got to the ball first there'd have been nothing said about it

From what I've seen it wasnt his intent but definitely worthy of a red.
If anyone wants to know how the Chelsea - West Ham game went then all you need to know is Hazard and Mata are unsurprisingly too good for West Ham and we offered nothing when Diame wasnt on the ball (and he went off at H/T)

We will see what? That you are still disagreeing with everyone? What is the reason for Dwight York not being objective? Or the presenter? Or the bbc punditry team?

Just think it's unfortunate the boy has potentially a bad injury, don't think it was that terrible a tackle - a lot of force behind it and if you miss you should go.

He launched himself in like a missile, feet first above knee height. Even if he missed the player that is still a red card for dangerous play.
It is a truly horrific challenge and equally as worrying is muppets like you saying it was only "possibly a red". Do you have to assassinate someone to get a red.

I understand your feeling as you've lost in injury time to a goal that should have been disallowed and a player of yours has been imjured but you need to see it as it is.
He went in very hard but he swings his boot to clear the ball with his instep, if he had straight legs the whole time I'd agree with you. A split second difference in him clearing the ball 100% fairly and the unfortunate injury we have witnessed.
He didn't go in like a missle two feet first above knee height, or to try and hurt the guy. Had he got a red no one would have complained but vilfying him was wrong as was the coaches reaction at half time towards a guy has been comitted to a tackle and unforuntely injured a fellow pro.
I also said holt was lucky to stay on the pitch for going in with two feet on the keeper earlier - unfortunately people judge events on the resulting damage rather than what has gone on

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 4
The incident in the Wigan game is just the same as Nani against Real Madrid. Both players had intent for the ball only, both players missed the ball and got the man, Nani was sent off because he caught a guy in the abdomen with his studs, McMannaman wasn't sent off because the referee bottled it/didn't see it, I've seen the incident on a US feed whilst watching Chelsea but not the whole thing so don't know where the ref was looking.
Yes I agree with Ent on this point only, he went for the ball and had no malicious intent but, this is what I think and makes me agree with the majority, and it's the most crucial point, whether or not your intentions are to win the ball you don't go in like that because if the ball is touched you'll end up catching someone in a nasty way. With anymore force he could have broken the other players leg. To quote the great Ray Wilkins "Keep your feet on the ground!"

I can't deny he went in very hard and could (probably should) have been sent off, just don't think it is as wreckless as many are making out and that far less would have been made of it had the fullback walked away from it.
Ironically perhaps I'm the one making the most of it!

Reckless and very dangerous, yes. Red card, without a doubt. Was he going for the ball, yes. Was it an accident, yes. Standard 3 match ban and that's enough IMO.

Difficult to know whether he intended it but it was a bad challenge, and done with a poor technique, so maybe he did lose his head?

It was a very poor tackle, however the Newcastle coaching staff let the club down with their reaction at half time. He's a young lad and I'm sure he knew he had done something bad, however for them to react like a couple of thugs is disgraceful. Sadly it'll get brushed under the carpet by the FA.

"He's a young lad"...
So what. He is an adult.
A few years back Nolan was sued by Victor Anichabe after he lunged in with an awful challenge. Victor was out for 6 months from memory and managed to secure a decent pay out. Nolans challenge looks harmless compared to that scum bag from Wigan.

The coaches shouldn't be reacting like mindless thugs, you'd expect that kind of behaviour from the fans but the coaches should know better.
Can you imagine if he hadn't been restrained by the stewards? I genuinely believe he would have smacked McManaman. Is that the type of behaviour you want in your staff?
