Crazy. The amount of people saying a high and dangerous studs up challenge catching Arbeloa in the mid-section wasn't a red card
I see Nani's foul as equal to someone with eyes on the ball trying to win a header and elbowing the opponent accidentally. Still given as a red card by most. It was reckless to not notice someone else going for the ball and trying to win it like that.

So a player is actually not allowed to try and control a ball out of the air for the fear of somebody coming in out of sight when they only have eyes on the ball? #headsgone

There are other ways to control a ball out of the air than by having your foot 5 ft in the air... But its the risk you take. If no-one's there no-one cares, but Arbeloa being there made Nani's actions reckless.
For the record I'd have only booked Nani, but that's because the ref last night didn't apply any common sense, but by the letter of the law Nani was right to go for committing Serious Foul Play.

It's something that happens ridiculously often in football, and you never ever see a red card for it. One of those rules that are never applied because usually common sense prevails, unfortunately in this case it didn't and it has spoiled a potentially riveting last 30 minutes of Champions League football.
United were the better side Nadz, Mourinho even said so himself.
How the completely useless 5th official missed Rafael's handball on the line I'll never know. Most pointless person in football, I've never actually seen them make a decision?! Look at the corner that lead to Arsenal's goal against Bayern as an example of how pathetically inept they are

Ask yourself, what was the worse decision?
Giving an iffy red for a high foot
or
Letting somebody handball a shot on the line?

And ultimately, intimidation of officials through the media and other mediums has been a Ferguson tactic for years. Can't think of a club I'd have less sympathy for if an iffy decision goes against them.
Their reaction post match was nothing short of disgraceful. Rio and SAF acted like 10 year olds in particular.

I'm just disappointed that we're sitting here talking about a completely inept refereeing display, instead of what should have been the best most high profile match of the season.

No you're not. You love every chance you get to put the boot into European refs and UEFA.
As for the ref attention, thank the BBC and ITV for that, whose combined party line was controversy and everyone is out to screw the English as always

Sorry, I'm obviously really happy that we're talking about a ref's performance rather than a great game of football #headsgone

By the same laws, if Nani goes, so should Diego Lopez for his two fisted punch to Vidic's head. Penalty as well, but that's never spotted/given.
The ref was undoubtedly poor, but it doesn't mean Nani wasn't reckless. As Roy Keane argued, does he think he's got nobody within 20 yards of him?

Btw, I love how Ferguson is too 'distraught' to talk to the media.
Was he too distraught to talk to the bbc after they revealed his son was a crook?

Aye was a fantastic goal. The 2nd as well, the flick was superb.
Tbh Madrid probably shouldve gone for more, United were there for the taking, then Mourinho took off Ozil for Pepe and they sat back.
Mourinho clearly on his best behaviour to try and win the United job.

Re: Euro Division Homepage LI
I still maintain that the ref had no choice - Nani was utterly stupid, he went chest high with a straight leg, studs out, saw the guy was coming, and if he lost the ball, he was always going to walk.
At that stage of the game, it was the most stupid tackle I've possibly ever seen. Nani deserves to rot in United under 4s team for the rest of his career, he has single-handedly cost United the game with his stupidity.
I also hope that Rio Ferdinand gets a huge fine / suspension for his unprofessional treatment of the referee at the final whistle. The guy is meant to be a role model and a former England captain - it says something about the state of the modern game when idiots like him can rise to such lofty stations. The guy is an embarrassment to us all.

I suspect Ferguson didn't talk to the media because he knows he can't walk all over UEFA, unlike the FA who at most throw a fine.

why would you start Nani though when you have Kagawa who just scored 3 at the weekend or Valancia/Young who are better

Because once in a while Nani actually does something special.
Nevermind its like once every 2 seasons.
Also Young is crap and Valencia is pretty one dimensional.

Rio was a total arse, its one thing when the players are surrounding the ref and arguing their point, but to be sarcastically clapping right in his face, shows what a moronic, childish thug he actually is.
This isn't biased, I actually wanted United to win but seems I can't have an opinion without Man U fans telling me I'm wrong on my Facebook status (Hero, I'm looking in your direction )

I wanted Utd to win too. Anyways our English hopes rest on Arsenal somehow scoring at least 3 in Germany tonight, and that's without conceding! #nochance

Welbeck played really rather well I thought. You know you aren't getting a great finisher with him but everything else he did from sticking to Xabi Alonso, to relieving pressure with hold up play, to stretching the defence, was top class.

Must say, Mourinho positioned himself nicely to take over at Man Utd though.
Very complimentary. Aside from respect for Fergie I'm certain he probably wants to make a good impression to United.
