Sandy Park added to 2015 long list
That's right folks, the good people at RWC 2015 have added Sandy park to the long list at the expense of Ashton Gate.
What are your thoughts oh wise ones of 606v2?
Story here.

Can anyone tell us what Sandy Park is actually like?
I've never been but is it old or new? Are there many facilities etc or is it a bit bare? And what's the capacity/atmosphere like?

If it hasn't a roof then it shouldn't leap frog Millennium Superdome. .....
I'm getting the Millennium allusion in early...it was going to come up at some point!

It's a cracking little venue Yap. Built in 2006 we're starting a program of expansion that'll see it grow from just over 10,000 to just over 20,000. Brilliant atmosphere, great facilities what's not to love!

Over 20,00 blimey that's impressive! So you'll have the second largest stadium in the league then. Is that specifically for the WC or were the board planning on the expansion anyway?

Sandy Park is a cracking place to watch rugby, hopefully the redevelopment comes through and they make the short list

It won't be anywhere near 20,000 for the RWC. That's the final size we've got planned after 5 years of expansion. I think, (please correct me ASBO!) it'll be about 15,000 by the time the RWC comes around.
Hers what it'll look like eventually: Sandy park
EDIT: BBC says it'll be up around 12,000 for the RWC.

Great news - can we (Scotland) have it for our games - if we qualify

Very exciting for the club
CD, nothing to correct there - all true, altho might be a little larger with two summers worth of redevelopment works completed

Only 12000?
I'm surprised at that given that NZ was pretty much forced to have all grounds at 17,000+ last time. Some common sense though I guess, as the real minnow RWC games in mid-week are hard to sell masses of tickets for.

Those minnow games still get easily over 15000 people. Very small stadium for a RWC.

Good to see another proper rugby stadium on the list. Now we just need to replace the crisp bowl with Welford Rd.

As said by Sam great to see another actual rugby stadium on the list and also some reward to Exeter and Sandy Park for what is an excellent venue and a lovely place to watch rugby.
I've only been the once myself for the Cheifs vs Tigers game last season but it was a genuine pleasure despite the Tigers losing A lovely area and great fans. Such a shame Welford Road isn't on the list though....
