Scotland assistant coaches Stevie Scott & Duncan Hodge have been appointed interim coaches of Edinburgh Rugby.
Official statement - Both Back & Bradley have resigned with immediate effect!
Scotland assistant coaches Stevie Scott [left] and Duncan Hodge [right] were today appointed as interim coaches of Edinburgh Rugby.
Incumbent (should read incompetent ) head and assistant coaches Michael Bradley and Neil Back have left their posts with immediate effect having agreed terms to bring their contracts to an early end – Bradley’s was due to expire this May, and Back the following season.
Scott and Hodge remain committed to the RBS 6 Nations campaign, and will take the reins as head and assistant coach of the capital club after the competition’s conclusion (Monday 18 March).
In the meantime, the players will continue the strength, conditioning and skills phase of the current fallow period of the RaboDirect PRO12.
Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, Mark Dodson, said: “We feel this move is necessary to give a fresh impetus to the squad going into the remainder of the season.
“Our search for a new coaching team for Edinburgh Rugby continues, with a view to getting the club back on a winning track.”
Edinburgh Rugby managing director, Craig Docherty, said: “I’d like to thank Michael and Neil for all of their input and wish them the very best in the future.
“It’s heartening to welcome the appointment of two former Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland internationalists to our back-room on an interim basis.
“I believe they are the right people to inspire our squad for the remainder of the season and assess the player group going forward.”
Edinburgh Rugby interim head coach, Stevie Scott, said: “I’m delighted to be given this opportunity for the rest of the season.
“Naturally the big thing for me at the moment is my commitment to the national team but, come a week on Saturday night in Paris, I’ll be straight into Edinburgh Rugby mode and will be working with Duncan [Hodge] to get the players ready for the home match against Ulster and the rest of the season.”
Edinburgh Rugby interim assistant coach, Duncan Hodge, echoed Scott’s sentiment, adding: “As an assistant coach to the Scotland team, my focus is completely on my role in producing a winning team in the RBS 6 Nations.
“However, as someone who played over 150 games for the club, I’m delighted to be given this opportunity to assist Edinburgh Rugby and have an influence on the last five games of the season.”

I'm not convinced IBD - has Leck even started a match this season? I think Leck benefits from usually being the impact sub, and thus looks fresh against tired legs. His basics are sound, but he doesn't offer the same attacking threat you get from Rees.
I suspect Rees is on more money, thus it probably makes sense to let him go and spend the money elsewhere. A hard-nosed blindside would be good, assuming we let Basilia go, and I wouldn't say no to a good scrummaging loosehead.

With bradleys selection policies, I dont think you can read too much into that. Rees might make more breaks and do flashy things now and again, but how many times have we been screaming for the ball to just get recycled quickly only to watch rees do his best impression of a mime artist when the balls ready at his feet? Too many players at edinburgh this season are trying to do the flashy stuff and forget to just do the basics.

Good point about Reese - he must have had at least 10 charge downs this season, 2 of which I can remember leading to a try.
He also has a stupid goatee.

Re: Edinburgh appoint interim coaches - Bradley & Back have gone
Sad to read imature postings about Rees.
Been out of the country for a few days, dissapointed to hear the news on Rees leaving.
Richie is a respected player back in Wales. He has been very good in a very poor Edinburgh side, he always gives 100% every game.
Some on this forum believes its a good thing Rees leaving.
So what do Edinburgh have next season?
2 Rookie 9s that have hardly no experience playing rugby at pro level.
Then theres Leck, whom is no more than a Scottish Div. 2 player at most, who also is very lucky to have a pro contract. He has only started 1 game all season, Rees has played in 21 games.
Then theres Laidlaw, who has been poor for Edinburgh at 9 this season. Laidlaw is going to have no competition for his position, not just for next season, but for the next 3 or 4.
I firmly believe if Laidlaw was English, Welsh, Irish or French he would not get an international cap at 9.
Laidlaw has had a few kicks charged down also this season, but no mention of that on this topic, where were the forwards protecting the 9 at the base of the scrum, no mention of that.
Rees has saved more tries with his last ditch defensive tackling, no mention of that neither.
Richie has been popular with the players, hes an experienced pro and NSQ.
the last one is the decider for the patriotic on this forum, if your NSQ and a threat, your an outsider.
I for one, will be sorry to see him go.Good Luck to him at tha Dragons, where no doubt he will get the respect he deserves !

Think you’re over reacting there a little Janecory – swap ‘immature’ for ‘banter’ and you’ll have hit the tone of our posts.
I think all Edinburgh fans know he’s been one of our better players this year and are gratefuly for his efforts, but with Laidlaw now at 9 and the exciting Sean Kennedy coming back I think it is right he moves on to not hold up the development of Scottish 9s.

Re: Edinburgh appoint interim coaches - Bradley & Back have gone
Agree with RDW, no disrespect to Rees intended on my part.
Our best half back combination this season without a doubt is Rees at 9 and Laidlaw at 10, but from a Scotland perspective that causes a whole world of problems.
Laidlaw is now Scotland's 9, and so he should play 9 for his club. Rees is too good to sit on the bench, and certainly won't want that. Better we deploy our NSQ money elsewhere, and give Kennedy some rugby next season. Possibly not better for Edinburgh in the short term, but better in the long term, and certainly better for Scotland (which has to be a consideration for Edinburgh).

Re: Edinburgh appoint interim coaches - Bradley & Back have gone
I still find it quite hard to believe how spectacularly awful this season has been, especially after last seasons brilliance in the heiniken cup. Okay, so instead of London Irish and blues we ad Munster and Saracens. But to lose so badly against every team in the heino was just unacceptable.
Edinburgh are a team that chuck the ball wide, I think it's time they became that team once more! Really looking forward to seeing how the team gets on after the 6 nations now that Bradley and co are gone.

Yeah I hope the new coaches have a real positive affect. They are both Edinburgh stalwarts too so the right people to appoint in a temporary basis.
Ulster will have too much for us but I'd like to hope we stand a good chance of wining the remaining games after that.

I hear there's been an ultimatum to the entire remaining Edinburgh coaching and playing staff. Something like...if you don't want to be here leave!

If they didn't train they'll probably be one of the ones out the door. Got the impression Mr Dodson isn't too happy about this season.
New Edinburgh next season.

I'd like to think that there wouldn't be many people who would choose the 'bugger off' option. I'd like to think there's a lot of passionate and proud players in that team.
