Welsh / English swap shop
First topic message reminder :
I will swap you that English lad Cuthbert for those two valley boy Vunipula's.
Fair trade? Byrne at 15, Halfpenny on wing. I think Wales will gain more than they lose.
Also faletau might play better with half the family egging him on.
Anyone else wanna trade anyone?

Qualified is qualified (unless you're Wales from a few years ago or London Welsh at the moment ).LordDowlais wrote:Cyril on 606v2 wrote:That right, Dowlais.

Perhaps. But you as an individual poster seem to be using the comeback too often. I just thought maybe you could vary things at least a little bit by now. See where I'm coming from .

See, The Welsh can't even do that properly. If your going to have a foreigner at least do it right and get them from far afield.

Jim 'Wales are lazy' Telfer reckons they can't be bovvered to search over the Severn very much beyond Gloucestershire.

Mister I'll give you that but you have to promise not to waste sports time on Wembley or Twickers when you have an actual great stadium at last

Re: Welsh / English swap shop
I personally think the MS is the best in the NH (Havn't been to many down south, a few SA stadiu aside) but then I would.
For me the stadium itself is ok, not the most extravegant, but the design and layout is excellent, it creates the best atmosphere around, and being city centre with all the bars shops etc it just can't be rivalled.
I hate the walk to Murrayfeild, the train queues at Twickers, the journey to the Stade, and the fact you can be in Dublin on match day and never know anything was going on (although not been to the new Aviva)
My favourite night out has to be Embra mind

Re: Welsh / English swap shop
MS town centre location is good with all the bars and restaurants.
Trains Q'ing at Cardiff is as bad / worse than Twicks. The 99 RWC at Cardiff was a disgrace in terms of Cardiff train services. Sure London is a crowded city, but loadsa rugby trains to / fro Waterloo.
Richmond is a good area to hand around.
MS pet hate: the oppressively heavy roof. Twickenham at least feels like an outdoors venue for an outdoors sport.

Re: Welsh / English swap shop
MS: I saw the opening game and the RWC final in 1999.
As a 'neutral' and of course no UK interest in the final, it felt a bit flat after Aussie comfortably beat France.
Never been there for an England game but can imagine the atmos to be absolutely electric for such a match. Esp on 16th.

Ye the train system is absolute garbage, I'll give you that but there are another 30 ways of travelling out of the centre, bus depot moved to the other side of town, council buildings used for coach car park, tons of secure parking with shuttles around the city etc... Twickers doesn't have that.
England games are good, but the amazing games Ive been to see were the NZ draw, the NZ near loss where AWJ couldve pinned his ears back and made the corner to win it, and the SA win. The only truely excellent England game I saw there was the 11/9 win or the Henson show as it's known now.
Ive been to Twickers tons and it loses atmosphere, there are loads of obstructed views, and (sorry about the stereotype) the stadium fills way too late and disapears way to early, including half time leave and return!! First few minutes of every game Ive been to seemed dead or like a Wales home game with the singing.

Blue Man
Don't really disagree about Twickers. I took my son there a lot in the AI days of late 90's pretty good times, relaxed, fun, his first pint of guinness etc.
We went again a couple of years back for the 'Purple Shirt' outing v Argentina, who England struggled with but did beat. The atmos was ruined by corporate BS, commercialisation and disinterested 'fans' coming & going and chatting during play.
Just yesterday 02 txtd me with 'privileged' access to bookings for Argentina visit 2013 AI. Seats were terrible, low in a corner diagonally behind the corner flag. The price for these 'privileged' seats ? £180 the pair. Get stuffed. They wont txt me about the top 3 AI visitors I'm sure.
I am a passionate England fan, but have had it with Twickers corp BS.
I might well enjoy the MS more, cowboy hats aside. But I don't like the roof.

It's not just twickers mate, I hate to say it and I will get slated on here but I decided to treat the missus an MS trip for the 09 slam decider with Ireland (she's from Dublin) and those tickets set me back £500!!!!
Don't get me wrong the box was nice, but filled with plebs who couldn't give a stuff about the game, at one point I was asked to quieten down... I did not!
The cowboy hats and dafodill headware are just our version of Twickers corporates, middle aged women who know little of the game but see it as a great outing and get the husbands to buy the inflated prices!!!
I think I might have been at that Argie game about 6 years ago? They took a lot of stick as 10 minutes into the 2nd half there was a huge area of empty seating in and around the corporate box's (best seats in the house and the beggers sat inside watching on TV) I was given tickets for free and it was a poor match, poor atmosphere and releif at the final whistle.
The WRU does the same though, texts, billboards, bus ad's come and watch Wales play Argy/Fiji/Tonga/Samoa/ the mighty Canada etc... hiding away the good tickets for those who will pay far more for them!

Re: Welsh / English swap shop
Blue Man that might be the same match.
The game I went to. The prelude to the game included a Nike commercial stunt, with the seats covered in purple or white stiff paper sheets. The announcer asked the 'fans' to show support by waving their sheets.
Too late we realised we had been conned into a commercial stunt by Nike, with their white 'zoosh' logo appearing among the crowded seats. The fans were so peed off when they realised, they made the purple sheets into paper darts and launched these down from the stands. My last visit to Twickenham. It kinda ruined my attitude. I watch now in a proper rugby pub near Stroud and enjoy the comfort & camerarderie, the commentary, close ups and the replays, plus with real ale on tap !.
