Alvarado vs Rios 2
First topic message reminder :
Guys,
Could someone please tell me what channel this is on in the UK?
Surely we have picked it up with it being a contender for FOTY in 2012??
Any help would be appreciated as its not appearing on Sky Sports, ESPN, Channel 5, Boxnation (not bothered), Primetime, Wealth TV etc etc!!
Help??

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
Another great fight and sets up a 3rd which will be of the similar mould
Reminded me a little of Ward-Gatti 2 with Alvarado mixing in boxing and brawling to rack up the rounds
This time around Alvarado hurt Rios a couple times and almost had him down as did Rios who almost had him down in the seconds
Fair result imo but I feel that Rios can get the 3rd win. 12 rounds like that can have lasting effects and at 32 Alvarado may not be able to draw on the same reserves that he did for this fight

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
I had it 115-113 Alvarado. Rios just reminds me of Margarito, ploughing forward takin punishment, I was over the moon when the judges gave Mile High the nod.
Rios showed his lack of class, interupting Alvarado's interview to talk nonsense when he could have just waited his turn.
Can't stand Rios, Alvarado had sour grapes when the ref stopped the first fight, but waited until his turn to speak. Rios just barges in. Lack of respect and very bitter.
But Alvarado showed great movement and a massive variety of punches. He adapted when it was getting tough. Showed lots of different sides to his game.
Rios showed he had no answer when Alvarado moved.
Glad someone finally showed him up for what he is.

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
rios was expecting a repeat of last time, and alverado had no intentions of going down the same route, basically turned up to a gun fight with a knife.
how tough is rios though, dont think he needs to worry about getting big fights in the future, even if he has reached his best already (which i dont think he has) i could see him been a katdsis type fighter

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
I can see him getting knocked out soon, he just absorbs so many clean shots and against Alvarado (who is very strong but not a huge puncher at the weight) he was getting his head snapped back constantly and was getting hurt throughout
I think he might beat Alvarado in the third fight as I said earlier, but arum has said that he doesn't want them to fight each other immediately but match them up with any of JMM, Pacquiao, Braldey or provodnikov. Except maybe Bradley, any of the other 3 could easily and should (JMM and Manny) knock him out

I don't see where this theory comes from that he's going to be easy to knock out, getting your head snapped back means nothing, it happened to Aaron Pryor all the time and did him no harm. Despite the Pacquiao fight, Marquez isn't a big puncher nor from the looks of it is Pacman himself any more, as for Provodnikov if he couldn't stop Bradley when he had him in major trouble he's not stopping Rios either.

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
Didn't say its going to be easy, I said that I can see it on the horizon and its not hard to see why. The guy blocks with his face and its not like he keeps himself in great shape outside the ring. He has rehydrated 20 lbs multiple times which has lasting effects on your body
Acosta, Antillon, Murray, Abril (still got hit alot) and the 2 Alvarado fights are all really hard fights and particularly in the Acosta and the last Alvarado fight he got hurt bad by right hands.
Provodnikov didn't stop Bradley, but neither did pacquiao. Alvarado is a better boxer than Ruslan but I'd say provodnikov has heavier hands and should they go toe to toe anything could happen. I also said that ony JMM and Pacquiao are the ones who should beat him and that Ruslan has a chance. If Alvarado outbox and pick him apart so easily then what would JMM and Pacquiao do to him. JMM might not have huge one punch KO power but engage him like Diaz or Kats then he picks you apart and accumulates huge amounts of punishment and pacquiao would do one of his hatton performance or margarito on Brandon

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
I would agree with that. Boy does his defence need work, because someone with real power and you feel him getting stopped in the not too distant. Eating way too many right hands. I'd hold my hand up and say I've probably overrated him a bit, but he's always in entertaining fights. Give Bradley much more of a chance of beating him now if his chin holds up. Alvarado fought a very good fight.

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
Like ~I have said consistently, guys like Rios are way overrated, purely to do with the fact that they have crushing power and have a great style to watch. Its the same with GGG, he hasn't been in with any of the top Middles. Now I'm not saying that isn't his fault, but until he fights a top opponent in the same way and his major weakness' aren't highlighted by a top opponent then I'm holding him in the same bracket.
I thought that this one could go either way to be honest and if Alvarado could keep himself together a little more defensively he should do it.

Re: Alvarado vs Rios 2
So because I made a prediction which didn't come true I'm getting ribbed for it?
Yes Rios lost, will I cry over it? Certainly not.
I like Rios' fighting style. I like Alvarado's fighting style. Both are warriors.
I expected Rios to KO Alvarado again, but Mike came in with a better gameplan and Bam Bam couldn't deal with it.
I for one hope they don't fight again, they will end up seriously hurting each other.
