Who will win this Amlin 1/4 final?
Amlin 1/4 Wasps vs Leinster
First topic message reminder :
Morning all I thought I'd get the ball rolling on this one.
It's been a while since these two teams faced off, way back to 2009 where Wasps deservedly beat Leinster 19-12 on Leinster's road to their first ever HCup. This was in contrast to the 41-11 win Leinster achieved in October against the same opposition in Dublin.
Leinster were on a great run of form up until this Saturday when they were beaten by Ulster, they now lie in 3rd place in the Rabo league. They find themselves in an odd situation as they and their supporters would consider themselves Heineken Cup big timers and being in the lower tier of Europe I am sure ruffles a few feathers. They have some high profile absentees notably; O'Driscoll, Sexton and Reddan which constitutes a large amount of quality and experience that will not be present.
Wasps find themselves in 7th pace of the Aviva Premiership in the depths of a 4 game losing streak. Some close defeats to Northampton and Worcester compounded by a drubbing to London Irish and a first league home loss to Saracens. Not ideal. Some danger men have just returned from Six Nations duty names like Masi and Launchberry significantly strengthen the side.
So where will the game be decided?
Who will get ascendancy at the breakdown and set pieces?
Who are the danger men coming into this game?
What are the prospective teams?

Stuart can't smile, he's the plank that left him out of the whole 6N's squad.

Wade is a very impressive young player. I hope England continue to ignore him.
Outside chance for the Lions though?

He could well be if he continues to play like this tonight. Gatland will be watching with interest.

Wait for everyone to call Wade for the Lions................... The 2013 Ugo Monye/Keith Earls perhaps. Love what he brings, he seems to be faster then he is quick, which is what you want in a winger, superb try.

Wasps need to box more clever, they need to look for territory when things slow down.

If England want some spark in their backline they need to start with Wade and Daily. Gatland with an eye on Madigan?

I thought the english back three lacked a real cutting edge during the 6 nations.. he looks like the cure.

That right there is why Madigan has a higher ceiling then Sexton.

Agree totally. He's taking in five games this weekend. I think he will get plenty of options after it, that he may not have considered before.
I do think Wade will tour by the way. Think Gatland will want some real gas out there.

As a Welshman, i'm glad the English coaches have been ignoring Wade
Any Wasps fans with an opinion of Dai Young as a coach?

Could you credit their backline play to Shane Howarth more though?

Entertaining first half. Did that Leinster 10 play in the 6N's?

Thanks Fly!
The Wasps are showing more attacking threat in my opinion, though Leinster are ruling the breakdown right now.

Holy moly, he really burned Nacewa there.
I think if Leinster put in one more to rucks every second or third phase we will find Wasps having huge difficulty getting the quick ball that is literally their life blood

He got gametime at 12 in both games when we were running out of players

Leinster haven't been a genuine attacking threat all season. They're just not clicking for some reason. Enduring rather than dominating.

Wade and Madigan are doing themselves no harm with Gatland in attendance.I hope Gats asked the England supremo why England didn't want Wade!

I would disagree.
I think we just need 5% more patience with ball in hand and then this game should be ours

That 5% is a pretty big gap then pete from here to when they could cut and slice at will. That 5% they've been struggling to uncover all season.

I'm just talking about this game would agree with you re: the season as a whole.
I think if we regain a bit of control and nous then this game should be ours to lose. That being said getting that control will not be easy

Don't know Rory. There is an awful lot of what Pete referred to there; as in they seem to get impatient, or they seem to get confused a little when operating at tempos they could easily utilise before. I don't know why that seems to be such a consistent one this year.
