The Masters Competition!
First topic message reminder :
My major competitions return for a fourth year with The Masters at Augusta this week. Alsie won The Masters Competition last year and is looking for back to back wins in this tournament.
The rules remain the same so if you haven't played before all you have to do is select six golfers, before the first tee off on Thursday, then sit back and see how they get on. I will hopefully get a leaderboard up for each round sometime the following morning.
The winner will be the person with the lowest combined score from their three best finishers. That allows upto three of your selections to not make the cut. The competition scores will be the actual scores from the golfers. So if you have Tiger Woods and he scores 280 for his four rounds, you get 280 towards you score.
The full rules are listed at the bottom of this post.
Here is a list of the winners so far and you can see the previous Masters' final leaderboards in the spoilers below:-
2012 Masters
1) Select six golfers before 12.40pm on Thursday.
2) Your score will be the cumulative scores from the three best performing golfers of your six selections.
3) As in any golf competition the person with the lowest score wins. Par for this competition would be 864.
4) You must have atleast three of your selections make the cut in order to win.
5) In the event of a tie for first place, your fourth best placed selection will be the decider. If there is still a tie after that the fifth then sixth selections will be considered respectively.
Hope that explains it all and good luck.

- Spoiler:
- Just like in real life this Masters Competition also came down to a play off. kwinigolfer lead by one shot going into day 4 with Oosthuizen, Mickelson and Westwood from Alsie in second who had Watson, Mickelson and Westwood. Watson had a fourth round of 68, one shot ahead of Oosthuizen, to put Alsie and kwinigolfer level on 26 under for the tournament.
Therefore the competition was determined by their fourth highest selections. Alsie's fourth highest finisher was Angel Cabrera with 291 while kwinigolfer's fourth highest finisher was Tiger Woods with 293 so congratulations goes to Alsie for winning the first 'major' competition of the year.

- Spoiler:
- With Charl Schwartzel taking the green jacket coupled with the fall down the leaderboard of Rory McIlroy, it was all change in this competition. Those who had McIlroy slipped back and saw their chance of glory slip away.
GG who had Schwartzel (66) along with Woods (67) and Rose (68) benefitted most from the final round and managed to come from eight shots behind to win by one shot from dynamark.

Ok, my selections are:-
Keegan Bradley
Fredrik Jacobson
Dustin Johnson
Louis Oosthuizen
Justin Rose
Richard Stern
This is the first major in awhile where I haven't backed Rickie Fowler, which probably means he's on for atleast a top 5 finish.

That doesn't sound fair... I missed a cut last year and therefore wouldn't get in my own competitiondynamark wrote:Good turnout this year folks we may have to introduce some form of qualifying criteria at this rate.Years on the forum, previous cuts made, couple of invites from some far flung corner, one or two ladies(mens tee of course)

It is a good turn out though, so more work for me... That said it isn't really much work after I've got the selections and field up in Excel.
I have actually got a rankings table lying about somewhere based on last year's competitions.
