New Gatland interview Empty New Gatland interview

Post by MarcusHalberstram Fri 12 Apr 2013, 10:27 am

Interesting watch. Keeping his cards close to his chest, but interesting to try and read between the lines about his probable selection. Seems clear this is going to be about him picking what he sees as the best players in each position rather than pre-planned game plan dictating the combinations and player types...

What else is he going to say to keep the Aussies guessing?

If he genuinely thinks that he can arrive at a Test game plan after seeing how a couple of tour games pan out, the Lions will get thrashed (as they usually do).

He may come out with this guff but he has to win this series and to give the team a chance that means picking combinations that know each other's game.

Isn't that what a gameplan is? One coach decides how his team can win the match and that means knowing who he is up against as well as what his own resources can do. So yes I believe teams spend a lot of time analysing their opposition.

Trying to 2nd guess Gatland is a complete waste of time - The only thing you can be sure of is that his overall selection will be controversial. We can then get this board up and running again with some lively debate. thumbsup

One would think that due to the fact your team consistently choke you wouldn't chirp up. 30-3; need I say more?

Good to see the Lions spirit is alive and well on here. I wouldn't be surprised if some fans boo players in the Lions because they normally play for rival sides.

This coming from the guy who said he hopes the Lions lose. Not a very good character trait but that is to be expected from you.

In all my years of watching the game I've never bood a Lions player. I'm not too sure as to why you're making stuff up. Your comment I referenced is on another thread and there for all to see.

The reason I think the Lions is on the way out is people like you who basically only support their own players. You need to stop booing. I doubt you will though. What's your problem with the English?

He isn't duty bound to support the Lions, its hardly a bad character trait. Its certainly not as bad a character trait as suggesting it is in the first place...

New Gatland interview Empty Re: New Gatland interview

Post by Triangulation Fri 19 Apr 2013, 10:53 am

Bottom line is that....

... Welsh rightly or wrongly lack respect for England as a rugby power due to lack of Grand Slams since 2003; and

....English rightly or wrongly lack respect for Wales as a rugby power due to inability to beat SH sides.

All the mudslinging from both sides (and ive been guilty of this myself) gets repetitive because we beat each other with the same sticks.

What we ALL need to enliven things a little is for :

a. Wales to beat some SH opposition; AND
b. England to win a Grand Slam

THEN we have monkeys off backs and can get back to talking rugby!!

At the end of the day the England v Wales rugby rivalry is statistically and in terms of passion possibly the most hotly contested rivalry in all sports across history.

The Lions haven't started yet and you're continuing to throw out your lies. Pathetic behaviour, which makes your next statement incredibly ironic:

That's a load of boxxlocks - Most players and most fans have respect for each country - It's just the usual suspects on here that have no respect and will never have any no matter who wins. England and Wales currently have very good sides IMO and it's looking good that they are both able to compete closely with each other. It's been a long time since 1 side has been just walking over the other and now both can go head to head with each having a realistic chance of winning - That's respect thumbsup
