Brian McDermott named Leeds Manager

Good appointment IMO. Worked wonders at Reading and was wrongly sacked. At a huge huge club, could argue the biggest job outside of the Premiership. Play offs is out of reach, but chance to work out the squad he wants and challenge next season.

The best manager they've appointed in a long time.

Hope he isn't going to overtask himself taking charge of both leeds teams.

Rather coincidentally, a person called Brian McDermott is head coach of the Leeds Rhinos.

Blimey, according to the BBC that's not the only coincidence. Leeds United and Leeds Rhinos both have a winger by the name of Ryan Hall!

From what I've seen of Leeds this season he's got a massive job on there. Mid table finish again next season for my money.

Problem with Leeds at the moment is the owners and whether they actually have any money or not.
Whilst McDermott is a good appointment, the fact Neil Warnock one of the best at this level couldn't get them much above mid-table suggests there is much deeper rooted problems at Leeds than just the manager

Exactly this. If a so called specialist like Warnock can't make inroads then I wouldn't fancy McDermott too either. He had one good season at Reading and that's it.
I'm not dismissing the appointment I just don't think there's much there to work with, unless he has a bunch of money to play with. The play offs at the absolute best.

He's been in a playoff final too.

True. One good season and one nearly good season.

I'd say given the relative talents of that Reading squad, being that high represents a pretty good year.

Re: Brian McDermott named Leeds Manager
Fact is no matter who the manager is at Leeds at the moment, over the past couple of seasons they've sold there best players and not really replaced them. 3 that came to Norwich for example in Jonny Howson, Robert Snodgrass and Luciano Becchio have been replaced by Michael Brown, Luke Varney and Steve Morison.
If there's no money, and the club has to sell it's best players (Byram next apparantly) then no matter who comes in, barring a miracle they won't be much above mid-table

Re: Brian McDermott named Leeds Manager
I actually thought that Wolves would have made a move for him in the summer after sacking their latest mistake. They were (apparently) keen on him last year and that would have been a better option.
All ifs and buts mind.
