I'd never say I'd go that far, but that Wigan team needed someone like him. Good at what he did but his lack of goals really made it hard for managers. Leicester Heskey was great though
Top player for me Chris. Every striker he partnered loved playing alongside him and he bettered alot of forward lines. With England he was always an easy target and ready made scapegoat but when you look beyond his goals record - which was poor, very poor - you'll see a very good player.
Peter Beardsley and Teddy Sherringham didn't pull up any trees regarding England goals but they get lauded still to this day.
I'm probably in a minority of one that thinks this mind
Now apologise Bull!

Haha I've never heard Beardsley and Sheringham compared to Heskey! He was decent at his job but a good defender knew how to deal with him.

Few people writing Wigan off to soon.
We're only 3 points ahead.
Tough game against Utd monday.
Wigan have game in hand.
Think Sunderland play Stoke so things no doubt will change.

Just ran through my predictions for Wigan and Villa's final games:
Utd 2-0 Villa
Villa 1-2 Sunderland
Norwich 1-1 Villa
Villa 1-3 Chelsea
Wigan 1-3 Tottenham
West Brom 1-1 Wigan
Wigan 2-1 Swansea
Arsenal 2-0 Wigan
Which (if I'm correct) leaves both teams on 35 points going into the final game of Villa v Wigan. SKY would be rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect, they'd probably be calling it the £100 million game, or however much you get for staying in the Prem.

I think Villa beat Sunderland but other than that agree with the other results (scorelines maybe not)
Leaving Wigan needing to win on the final day against Villa

Think Wigan have a slightly better goal difference than us.
So if it comes to last game both on same points. Then win or down for us.
Who knows what the results will be.
Ourselves and Wigan could get a couple of surprise reslts, dragging a few more teams back down.

I'm not his greatest fan, I think he should have moved on already, but he is a good manager.
Keeping Wigan in the league this long is pretty darn good. And now he has a shot at getting some silverware as well.
I'd be surprised if he wasn't Everton manager next season...

Considering how much money QPR have spent, I think it's almost impressive that Clint Hill and Tal Ben Haim are part of there starting defence.

I see Moyes leaving, everything is just stagnating their and both parties need change. Moyes has done a superb job but what else can he achieve? Never going to get Top 4 with the money rivals have spent and never going to bottom half of table. Stuck in no mans land.
I remember watching Suarez basically toying with Clint Hill at Loftus Road this season and it was embarrasing to watch. The fact he's still there is astonishing and one of the reason's their getting relegated. Everyone knows Ben Haim is in football for financial gain and that's it.
As a Newcastle fan very disappointed in our play recently. We're still in trouble and barely crawling to safety. Pardew keeps stating that when we have our injuries back that we will be a 'force' and be returning to top 6. Can't see it. Teams have developed and improved since then and all we are missing realistically is Coloccini & Krul. They are not going to sort out the issues we face. Seriously considering having Carroll back now because we are a push over away from home and quite frankly appaling from corners with no physical power whatsover. Worrying times for us but I still think Wigan might just go this year.

I know the penalty Foy gave to Stoke has been a figure if debate since it was actually given but forget whether or not how much strength Hill put into it or how easily Crouch went down. The most important thing that tells you it shouldn't have been given is the fact Foy didn't give a penalty to Chelsea last week.
A woman at work last week asked me why I was so angry at the ref. I said I don't usualky have many problems with refs but because they're so inconsistent they don't help themselves. Chris Foy is a fool. If Kompany made a fair challenge on Torres he should have booked Crouch for diving.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 5
People been saying 'Moyes for United' for years, I can't see that happening at all. Moyes has won no major trophy at Everton and he's not got any experience of leading a geniune trophy challenging team and he lacks any real European football experience in terms of the Champions League. Also going from having no financial power and then being trusted to spend millions of pounds on players is also a risk. I fear the jump from Everton to United would be a step too far for Moyes. I think he'll leave but maybe take a period of time away from the sport and then return at the next big job, which lets face it, in this sport is never far away.
The problem with Moyes staying in the EPL is that a top job is out of his reach and then below a team of Everton stature there is nothing appealing, it would only be a step down from Everton. Managing in the Bundesliga does appeal to him and he even stated that he would like to manage there at some point. I know Schalke are very much interested in him and that would enable him to really showcase his managerial ability, gain European experience and then possibly return to manage Manchester United. Sir Alex will continue for at least a couple more seasons in my opinion because winning the Champions League three times is quite frankly too big a deal for him to retire and he would ideally love to lock horns with 'The Special One' once more.

Thats fine, but Moyes has more to prove before being handed the reigns to one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Personally I'd look hard at Carlo Ancelotti.

I think he really wants Guardiola to take the reigns, a man who would respect Sir Alex and understands the roles of Director of Football which Sir Alex may take. Mourinho would handle the pressure well though, if anyone wont give a damn about the problems of taking on such a legacy then its Mourinho. I do love Klopp too, might get a look in if he can keep proving himself. Moyes would make it into the top 5 or 6 contenders for me though, hes built much in Fergie's guise

I think it'd be really interesting to see what happens at United after Fergie goes, if the manager isn't immediately successful whether they stick with him as they stuck with Fergie all those years ago, or they adopt the approach of modern football and sack him and move on.

I'd have Klopp at Utd but why would he move? At this moment in time, Dortmund > Utd. I don't want Guardiola as his football, no matter how effective is, irritates me and I don't like watching it. Plus he's at Bayern and at this moment in time, Bayern > Utd.
@Crimey, the latter approach scares me.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 5
The pressure in succeeding Fergie would be close to unbearable though I imagine.
Think of how top, top managers have struggled to get over the Mourinho-factor at Chelsea and times that by ten, Fergie has brought more success to Man United than any other manager ever, he's developed more world class players than any other manager period and he won't be pushed out, he'll have walked out on his own terms. The new manager won't just get pressure from the fans, he'll get it even worse from the media, scrutinising every move, analysing everything compared to Ferguson. It could be the best job in the world, or it could be very close to being the worst.

Maybe so Olly, I suppose it still depends on if Hummels, Gotze, Lewandowski and Reus (plus others) are still at Dortmund when Fergie leaves Utd. I'm still convinced they'll be taking him out in a box so that might be ages away.
I'd take an experienced manager for maybe 5 years to steady the ship and keep things taking over. Ancelotti is a great shout btw, I thought it was really, really harsh to sack him from Chelsea. Afterwards, maybe look at an up-and-coming manager or someone like AVB who's young but has won stuff. Fergie wasn't exactly young when he took over at Utd so it doesn't need to be someone in their mid-30s. I could spend ages thinking about replacements but, to be honest, there isn't much point in doing so until the great man leaves.

Lewandowski won't be at Dortmund past the summer I don't think, it's very unusual for Fergie to comment on speculation so there must be some truth in the rumours of him coming to United, not quite sure where that would leave Rooney though.

He's almost definitely going to Bayern I believe, despite the fact that I already have three really good forwards. Could be the start of a big summer forwards wise, with Gomez leaving, possibly as a replacement for Falcao at Atletico, and who knows where he'll end up!

Fine he slowly clambers into the pockets of defenders, all while earning hundreds of thousands of pounds every couple of minutes.

I think it's going to take one big move for all the others to start happening I think.
Rooney to PSG
Falcao to United
Gomez to Athletico
Lewandowski to Bayern
That's how I see it going.

Since the goal, City have been happy to sit back and soak up the pressure. Adebayor is hardly in the game, Bale's been shackled. Credit to Tottenham though, they've been patient, and have worked out some decent chances, mostly down the right wing. None taken yet, but I fancy them to take the game in the second half if City carry on playing the way they have been.
