I am very surprised Suarez is in there to be honest. Good to see the likes of Zabaleta, Vertonghen and Baines getting the praise they deserve. De Gea is probably the most questionable of suggestions.

Not been a stellar year for keepers, De Gea has looked class in the second half of the season though. Hes now the best keeper in the league I think, just above Lloris and Cech.
I actually thought Jaaskelainen might nip in there, not that Im a big fan but his save count is the highest and hes pointed out for praise reasonably consistently.

Even so, Suarez will not be the most popular of players amongst the other Premier League players.

I still don't think De Gea has been good enough to constitute being the best goalkeeper of the year, he's improved a lot since last year, but that still doesn't make him the best goalkeeper in the league in my opinion.
I think Mignolet, Jaaskelainen, Cesar, Lloris have all had better years.

I dont think hes been the best goalkeeper in the league over the year, but since hes been given the role properly hes barely put a foot wrong, made incredible saves and looks more like a man than he did 6 months ago.
Lloris has been exceptional at times. Cesar made a lot more mistakes than noted, more than Green usually makes in a year thats for sure. One of many who is at that club for £££. Mignolet and Begovic have generally been good too, but their teams have sunk so I suppose they should be considered part of that.
Lower standards this year for that one position, I agree with every other spot on the team though.

Double award for Bale then. Id still have gone for RVP but I can see the logic. Still seems to me that if Spurs finish 5th then Bale hasnt inspired his team to anything whereas RVP's goals notably won the league.

I don't think you should be allowed to win both POTY and YPOTY. Surely if you win POTY then YPOTY is a useless award to give to the same person. It's hardly going to be "Oh sorry Gareth, you've been the best player this season but there's a young player better than you".

Watching MotD2 at the moment and upon reflection, aside from the first 15 minutes or so, Arsenal were rubbish. They couldn't even beat a United at about 60% in a game that's massive for them and relied on an offside goal to get a draw. For a team that's scored 46 goals this season they are incredibly toothless at times.

Standout and only played well in 3 months is different. There was a time in the season I thought Walcott was playing better, yet Walcott isnt near this list. He was standout for a period, doesnt mean he was overall best. RVP pretty much won United the league in the first half of the year. Mata has been the most consistently brilliant without reaching the heights of any of the others in my view. RVP still overall for me, even though this year turned me into a convert of how good Bale is. Not Cristiano Ronaldo good like some twerp on my twitter claimed due to winning the double prize.

Surprised to see its Bale first, Suarez second RVP third. Bale first, Benteke second and Hazard third on young player.
The fact that Suarez's name was booed just proves how dumb the early voting is. Let alone all the other reasons its stupid

I agree with Bale if I'm honest. His displays have been phenomenal and remember he's played on the wing for most of the season, obviously playing down the middle on occasions. 19 goals in 30 games is pretty impressive, plus 4 assists. Its the games he's scored in also, dragging Spurs to wins and draws when if he wasn't there, they would not have gotten them.
Although I agree, I don't think he should win young player of the year. Even though he is only 23, If you're nominated for the main category, you shouldn't for the young player category. Benteke for me should have got that award. First season in the prem and as it stands, he's keeping a villa side up all by himself.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 5
His streaky run just before the voting got him it, he had 10 goals in 9 games across feb and march, with some incredible strikes and mostly playing through the middle.
Ok he has 19 goals and 4 assists and won spurs a good few points but he has had 141 shots and spurs don't look like achieving anything this season.
Suarez has 23 goals in 187 shots and 5 assists and has earned a poor side a lot of points.
Rvp has 25 goals 8 assists (doesn't give his shots for some reason) and more or less won united the league scoring in most of the big games.
Benteke has 15 goals 4 assists and 97 shots for relegation fodder.
I think bale catches the eye and won it that week spurs were on sky 3 times and he scored 2 wonder goals. After all most of the eligible voters don't play against the top players.

Shouldnt be able to win both.
Obviously gonna agree with Benteke. Been fantastic for us this season.
Hope he can score tonight on helping us get the much needed win.

ive said earlier that i dont consider 23 young (most strikers peak around 23-28), should be 21 and below for me so the likes of lukaku and nastasic would have been up for me
cant see why people have disagreed with de gea, he's been consistent all season with only a mistake against fulham that i can think off. added to that the amount of top class saves he's made, he earned us points this season. the likes of justi you can look good being tested the amount of times he has but he's also made quite a few bad mistakes this season

Has Hazard really been all that this season? I'll be honest for £32 Million I expected a lot more. In terms of midfielders, I'd say Cazorla has been better than him in a worse side at £13 million less.
I also think that Mignolet and Begovic can feel hard done by not being the goalkeeker in the side. But then, it seems the Team of The Year is top seven exclusive so no suprises there I guess

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 5
Hazard basically exploded onto the scene with all those assists and basically winning a penalty every game with his trickery. He wasn't prolific in front of goal at all this season in my opinion with less than 10 league goals and Mata certainly outshone him by some distance. He went missing in the middle of the season for me and then he had the incident with the ball-boy and then he came back from that quite strong and played well against United in the F.A Cup and scored a few goals towards the end of the season. Nothing major to shout about for £32m and all the twitter pandemonium of the best talent in years coming to the EPL. It's been an okay to good season for him, nothing more.
Happy that Bale won the POTY and seeing as Spurs will probably miss out on Top 4, I can see a huge scramble for his signature this summer and I've got a feeling City might push the boat out for Mancini after last season's shambolic Sinclair, Rodwell & Garcia signings. Not sure Bale should have won the YPOTY, my choice would of been Benteke or Lukaku.

To be fair to Hazard, it is only his first season in the prem and he is only young. It does normally take players of a similar ilk a season to adapt and be fully up and running with the Prem's style, see Mata and Silva.

Yeah, I think Hazard did fairly well, he wasn't spectacular and probably doesn't deserve to be considered one of the best of the season, but I did think he'd flop. I thought for £32 million, coming from the French league and being a fairly lightweight player that he'd struggle, but he has done pretty well and I can see him building on that performance next year.
I think Real Madrid is still the most likely place for Bale, they have a relationship with Tottenham, have the money, will likely have finished the season trophyless as well. I imagine the relationship between the two clubs will mean that if City do go in for Bale, they will offer him to Real Madrid as well who they'd obviously rather sell him to.
It'll be interesting if Bale does stick around if Tottenham don't make Champions League football, right now he's easily Tottenham's best player and might feel he prefers being the star man of the side rather than a cog like he would be at Madrid or City. On the other hand, I think he'll have aspirations of taking the Champions League by storm and winning league titles, something that he probably won't get at Tottenham as they're still struggling to break into the top 4.
Intriguing.

Real Madrid can still win the Copa Del Rey.
I can't see Bale going abroad. He's a quiet, family fan who probably won't want to uproot his wife & new born baby to a new country and culture. I don't know how important this could be but he's also signed a deal with BT to become a pundit on their new sport channel next season, therefore he'd have to incorporate more travel to and from England which will be disruptive. I'm sure he'd go from Tottenham if they fail to make the top 4 and it would be either to Man City or United in my opinion. Fergie has always stated, 'I can make room for anyone' and it would not surprise me to see him go in for him. One thing's for sure is that it won't be for anything less than £35m now and with Levy doing the negotiating, you can probably add another £5m to the fee.

I don't think rooney will leave, despite a poor season.
Bale would be a good bit for united, left wing sorted and real genuine pace which we have lacked this year.
After rvp I don't think city would allow us to get a player we were both in for though.
Also don't like the fact bale turned us down before.

Classic Harry. Left Portsmouth in a mess and now QPR, admittedly not his fault, but you'd think he would stay and try and get them back into the EPL and regain some of his reputation. Guess he's on a couple of million a year and the cutbacks start at the top, as Fernandes works his way down the hierachy. Love it how Fernandes writes on twitter saying, 'It took me three years to get Caterham F1 sorted and I will do the same with QPR'. Hahahahah. Caterham, for anyone who doesn't follow F1 are certainly older than three years and are certainly not sorted out, unless coming last is now an achievement.
QPR - What a mess.

The smart money is on him doing what he did at Southampton and leave after a few games. That league is a nightmare to get out of.

Exactly what I was thinking as well. Remarkable the slide his career has gone on as well. About 14 months ago, he was managing a side 3rd in the PL, and was favourite for the England job, now he's managing a very overrated and overpaid team in the second tier.

And he's probably aged another 5 years in that 12 months. This'll only end one way.

QPR added to another club Harry has screwed up and continuing to screw up!
Tbf if he can get rid of the crap Hughes brought in and keep the talented players they will probably do a West Ham and just buy there way back up. But it is such a tough league, nothing is for certain.
Remy and Samba i imagine will leave though.

They're apparently on £200,000 a week between them. Be a bit difficult to offload I'd imagine.

West Ham got up due to astute management and via the play offs. Their only marquee signing I believe was Kevin Nolan.

Yeah, we didnt actually overspend that much Nick, we got rid of far more wages than you'd have thought due to how badly we were run beforehand. Nolan has always been on less than both Upson and Dyer were. We got up down to Big Sam sorting out our away form and having the backbone to deal with teams that raised their game because we were the top dogs in the league. Remember how stroppy Poyet got when we closed your lot down last year and took a 1-0? If he knew how to do that you would be a far better side. The 6-0 certainly shut him up.
Its a weird league though, Reading were not even the third best side but went up top due to momentum and a bit of luck.
Harry isnt a bad manager, he understands a team dynamic. Hes not as tactically astute as some but he wont need to be, he'll have the likes of Clint Hill well up for the fight and some players will stay that are probably too good for the Champ and Harry will spark their form again. Whether they can deal with the clearout and expectations is interesting though. If it goes wrong early there will be problems

Gareth Bale winning the PFA was a suprise to me. 19 goals and 8 assist is hardly a colossus season.

Another big game for the Villa tonight.
Feel we'll get the 3 points.
BOOM. the big man to bag a hattrick.
Said before, I feel he'll get one before the end of the season.
Tonight is the right time. Tonight is Benteke time.

Will Remy go to Newcastle where he should have gone beforehand? It'd be funny if he ended up having to stay with QPR. I reckon he'd give a sizeable number of goals in the Championship.
