Berto in UFC?
He has family pedigree it seems and he appears keen.

Could he be the first pro boxer of any note to make an impact in MMA?

Two completely different sports. I have no clue why they even try. They may as well transition to taekwondo.
My dad was a good footballer, I'm not.

Ray Mercer knocking Tim Sylvia out is still a personal highlight of mine.

Well his father competed in UFC and his sister looks like entering the organisation also. I can imagine he's trained in MMA already.

His main focus has been boxing so I cant see him going very far in MMA.

Re: Berto in UFC?
Maybe so. It seems that you only need a few months training in MMA to make an impact.

Re: Berto in UFC?
yeah he probably has trained but if he was good he'd be in UFC and not boxing.
They'll push him forward too quick beacause of who he is - they'll put him in with a world level operator and he'll lose via submission.
Dana likes nothing more than boxers being owned by MMA fighters. Even though he professes to be a boxing fan he sees it as another nail in the coffin for a rival sport.

It has to be 100% dedication to whatever you do not "Oh I will give 90% to boxing and give the other 10% to MMA" if Berto does go to MMA it has James Toney written all over.

Difference is that Toney gave 100% dedication to Burger King.

Berto is nothing without the roids now.

Re: Berto in UFC?
Wasn't his roid use an innocent error? Just asking. Some over the counter stuff that changes to roids when mixed with more over the counter stuff.

Conte used the oldest excuse in the book, contaminated meet, athletics stopped buying that excuse years ago but the powers that be in boxing fell for it hook, line and sinker.

It probably is but other athletes have used the same excuse and got away with it. I'm minded to believe him. But it was in his system and that is that.
He would fit into UFC where its more of a case of who is NOT on roids or HRT to hide roids.

Re: Berto in UFC?
I don't know an awful lot about UFC but at least he has the advantage of being in his physical prime unlike the other boxers that have strayed over. How boxers think it's a good idea to take up a new sport once they're no longer able to compete at the highest level in one they've trained their whole life in is beyond me.

Re: Berto in UFC?
If Berto's family are generally mixed martial artists, maybe he's been training in it since he was young, however if his strengths were handspeed and power boxing would be the way to go. Seen as he's probably realising he's not gonna be the best at boxing he may well actually give it a proper go rather than a none effort like Toney.
