Boxing Thread For All Of Tonights Big Fights: Let's Get Ready
First topic message reminder :
First up it's Blackpool on the red button at 6pm.
Then it's lanky Tyson Fury at 9.30, minus silly trainer Peter.
Then Canelo vs Trout. A sizzler in the making. Mr. Bacon and cheese faced Trout, let's go.
Excited? You better be.

That's no excuse, I assume he took Firtha and Pakjic lightly too, if he wants to make a name for himself he needs to be dealing with guys like Cunningham a lot more comfortably.

i'd like to see fury vs helenius next. fury might look fragile, but is building a decent CV now.
say what you want but he still won. great fight.

I said during round one that fury was wide open. He was too hyped wanting to impress. Against better fighters he will be better.
Cunny would have sparked Wedgwood.

Az this has absolutely nothing to do with Price, basing it solely on his ability he has very little to offer, he's a big man with not a lot going for him other than that.

Beating rubbish doesn't mean a lot and I personally have higher standards of what constitutes a great fight, some degree of talent has to be on show.
Gatti against Ward were decent scraps nothing special in my opinion while Castillo against Corrales was brilliant.

He's made a name for himself. The yanks will love his fights. Probably not his singing. But we have a singing boxer. ITunes anyone?

Re: Boxing Thread For All Of Tonights Big Fights: Let's Get Ready
Fury needs to get more fights and more experience under his belt before he considers going after one of the brothers or any real puncher in the division. It was not a great performance by any means but people forget how young he is and how little amateur experience he has as well. In terms of progression he's fought better opposition than both Klitschko's had after 21 fights and they had much more of an amateur background.
Although not a natural Heavyweight Cunningham did push Adamek all the way only 6 months ago and Adamek has shown he is as good as anyone outside of the brothers at the weight. A very good win for Fury at this stage of his career but like others have pointed out had they been the same size Cunningham would have pole axed him early. Fury needs to stop thinking about a world title shot right now as he is not ready and probably won't be until Vitali is retired and most likely Wlad as well, no shame in that. Fury is still young for a Heavyweight but he seriously needs to start learning some more boxing and not just trading on his size like tonight. He has decent speed, power and recovery and his shot variety is as good as any heavyweight but the glaringly obvious holes in his game like his defense will get punished against someone his own size right now.

You can't really compare his record to the Klitschkos. Tyson Fury has had a lot more funding and coverage with his fights being shown live on national free to air tv than the klitschkos had at that stage of their careers. Tyson's career should be advancing a lot quicker than the klitschkos careers did. The Klitschkos were boxers in the mid 90's in mainland europe where there was a lot less money.
Also Haye was world HW champion in his 23rd victory. If you are going to compare tyson to anyone it has to be Haye.

Fury has had minimal amateur experience also. He's way ahead of where k2 were at the same stage of their career.

don't forget most heavyweights fury size don't have cunninghams speed. fury has great timing, and good power. he also has a great chin, he does have holes in his defense but so far has over come then, and proved against johnson he is capable of actually boxing. he has come on leaps and bounds since his early days, he even has a 6 pack now. some people are quick to right fury of, and have done since the chisora fight, but he hasn't lost yet, so he must be doing something right.

I don't think he should be advancing quicker given their extensive amateur backgrounds. People are trying to fast track him because of the state of the division but in heavyweight boxing it can go very wrong very quickly, look at Price. Fury needs to take a step back and stop trying to talk himself into a fight he is not ready for as he'll get smashed and look silly when in reality he shouldn't be fighting a Klitschko or Haye after 25 fights and no real amateur experience.

I don't think he is ahead of the klitschkos. The only argument for saying he is ahead is based on fury beating higher ranked opponents but we all know the ranking system is useless. Vitali after 22 fights had 22 victories with 22 KO's and had never been knocked down. Fury after 21 fights has 21 victories 15 kos but he has been knocked down himself twice.
Also let us not forget that Vitali won the HW belt in his 24th fight against Herbie Hide who at the time had 31 fights and had won 30 of them by KO and was the HW champion for 2 years.
Fury will not be HW champ in his 24th fight.

In all fairness to Fury he's chasing Wladimir not Hide who whilst now considered a world champion held the very lightly regarded WBO title, anyone who was anyone in the 90's was busy battling over the other three titles. Had Vitali gone for Lewis or Holyfield after 24 fights then it may be a fair comparison, anybody can go after the weakest champion.

He could well be within 3 fights.
Generally if you beat higher ranked fighters you will be ranked higher. Just guessing I suppose.

Agreed. Fury doesn't have a Herbie Hide to target unless Vitali retires and the title becomes vacant.
Wlad was getting beat by trash like Ross Purity at this stage of his career and has went on to dominate for about a decade and looked at his best against Haye at 36 years of age. If Fury applies himself he has a real chance of being a future champ once the Klitschkos have gone, time is on his side, however if he keeps being as reckless as he was tonight then it's disaster as soon as he meets a puncher.

How does Fury chasing Vitali mean that Fury's career is better than Vitalis after 21 fights? Granted if Fury beats Vitali in his next fight than Fury's career will be better but lets be honest Fury won't fight Vitali and if he does he will get a beating.

Already signed. Easy points win for Lara, Angulo's style is perfect for him
I doubt that Floyd will fighter either of Canelo or Trout, barring Canelo wins but by robbery as Trout outboxed him, so the winner of Lara-Angulo will defo be in contention to fight the winner of this fight

1-1 after 2. First for Trout 2nd for Alvarez. Trout needs to let his left go a bit more.

I have it 2-1 Canelo, Trout hasn't landed anything cleanly whereas Canelo has had success with the right to the body

What a round! Big, big moment for Alvarez, but credit to Trout for showing a cool head and boxing his way out of trouble there. He was well on top for the rest of the round after the knockdown. Could still be the telling moment, though.

Hhhmm....Again in the ninth, Trout's work wasn't of any great quality, but he's just doing a lot more of it than Alvarez is. If it goes to the cards it'll be very interesting.....
