Boxing Thread For All Of Tonights Big Fights: Let's Get Ready
First topic message reminder :
First up it's Blackpool on the red button at 6pm.
Then it's lanky Tyson Fury at 9.30, minus silly trainer Peter.
Then Canelo vs Trout. A sizzler in the making. Mr. Bacon and cheese faced Trout, let's go.
Excited? You better be.

Some good right hands from Alvarez give him the eleventh, for me. On my card at least, the final round could still potentially make a big, big difference.

Good 11th for Canelo, trout really felt his power in that round

Very close fight I think Canelo edged it, brace yourself for an awful scorecard or 2 here.

115-111 for Canelo on my card
He should get it, and if he does its a great performance and defensively alvarez was much improved

I had it 114-112. A lot of those early and middle rounds could have gone either way.

UD
115-112
116-111
118-109
For Canelo
Good fight and deserved imo although 118-109 was bit too far
Can't see Trout winning more than 6 rounds as he didn't land anything significant all night
Canelo is the real deal and would be a serious danger for Floyd

I'm not sure Alvarez would be active enough to beat Floyd, unless he just steam rolls him physically Floyd could make him miss for large periods and nick the rounds with his accuracy.

Re: Boxing Thread For All Of Tonights Big Fights: Let's Get Ready
Defensively tonight he showed that he is so much more than a brawler
Trout threw alot but never landed anything solid and Floyd struggled with Cotto's head movement whereas trout dealt with him easily enough
Think he looked a little tired, that's might just come as he develops into a man, and he is a pretty strong LMW so might not be able to make it
He performs better the level of opposition and everyone who fights him says how much better he is than he looks

Canelo would beat Mayweather. The size, ower and speed of alvarez would be too much.

Humble from Trout but I can't believe he didn't mention that 118-109 score card. Very good fight and both guys showed they are elite level fighters, your right about Canelo fighting to the level of his opposition, looked a lot better tonight against easily the best guy he's fought whereas he has boxed within himself previously.

Re: Boxing Thread For All Of Tonights Big Fights: Let's Get Ready
I had it 114-113 in the end, in favour of Canelo. The better man just about over the twelve rounds, though one of those cards was questionable to me, and another one of them an absolute disgrace.
Open scoring just needs to go!
Close enough for me to understand why someone (as they have in the BoxNation studio) might have had Trout nicking it by a slither, but on the whole he just didn't land with enough consistency and power to earn Canelo's respect and I was alarmed at how often he was made to fall short with his shots. Full credit to Alvarez, still far from water tight in his defence but notably better than we've seen it before.
Impressive from Alvarez as I still believe that Trout is a very, very decent fighter, but in my eyes Mayweather should seriously consider making the fight with Canelo happen, as I still don't think that tonight's performance would beat Floyd, unless the twelve months of inactivity has really blunted his edge (which is possible at the age of thirty-six, in fairness).

Re: Boxing Thread For All Of Tonights Big Fights: Let's Get Ready
Just finished watching the fight and I had Trout winning by one point.
He may not have landed any shots to "buzz" canelo, but he landed his jab all night and at times made canelo miss a lot.
Both were brilliant in their own right tonight, but I felt the better "boxer" won in my opinion.
What's absolute garbage is the scorecard from that last judge. I had trout winning 7 rounds to canelos 5.
But in front of 40,000 Mexicans with a judge that's watching something else, it does not help.
I think flood eats this kid alive with pure boxing ability.
Jab him all night and will avoid the shots canelo throws.
To be honest I feel canelo could possibly wipe out LMW with relative ease, very big at the weight and does have some decent power.
I just feel that against a "boxer" he could have problems.

I had alvarez winning by a round. The kd gave it to him. Fair play, the kid had skills. That judge should be executed.

It's like Williams/Martinez all over again, a close fight that's ruined by one cretin of a judge, despite being far from a robbery it will be proclaimed as one by some because of that one scorecard.
Need to watch it again as I was starting to struggle to keep awake when it started, also interested to see Terrzas against Mijares, how good does that make Quiggs win over Munroe look now.

7 out of 8 right last night with four of them being spot on, i'm just happy that the right man won as I had similar feelings to Az that Trout wouldn't get a fair crack at it.

Thought Fury was awful last night, poor chin, no defence, jab was poor, and he got into a brawl. David Haye would annihilate him, and so would the Klitschkos.

Canelo's manager wrapping the belt around him before he had been declared the winner was typical, lol.

That was a great recovery from the knockdown, once his legs went like that I thought it was all over but he settled by into his boxing almost instantly.

He has a "great" chin? how did you work that out, it might be a large chin but whenever he's hit on it he's on his backside. That's against guys who can hardly punch at HW.

Just thought the same thing! Dropped and was getting completely outfoxed by a longtime cruiser with no proof of power in his previous fights!!
The thing he is dong right eddy is that he is fighting less than stellar heavyweights (Prajik, Rogan, Cunningham, Johnson) but instead of blowing them away which he should, he ended up getting dropped by two of them and had Cunningham been a legitimate heavy, he would have stopped him easily.
Haye would have a feel day with him, along with the k bros.
Not only ha, and I may get slated, but I think Audrey takes him out within 6 rounds with his left.
Bang. Most heavyweights have crumbled to that punch, and with fury quite clearly not able to take a cruiser weight punch, he defo ain't taking that!!

Re: Boxing Thread For All Of Tonights Big Fights: Let's Get Ready
Fury deserves no praise, he was completely outskilled by Cunnigham and was getting tossed about the ring. It wasn't skill that won this fight, it was his pure size and power. He just walked Cunnigham down untill the 210lbs 36 year old cruiser couldn't compete
Cunnigham was not a puncher at cruiser unlike guys like Haye and Huck. Fury had 40+lbs advantage over Cunnigham and was knocked down hae fans rocked him multiple times
It was baffling how much success Cunnigham had with the jab, he outjabbed the 6"9 Fury at the start
I do t rate Haye very highly, but he is a much better, much younger and much more power than Cunnigham. If he landed that right hand that USS (and Pajkic) landed its lights out, and even if he does get up Haye is a great finisher so fury would defo be KOed

Re: Boxing Thread For All Of Tonights Big Fights: Let's Get Ready
Not sure about the Fury was outclassed and outboxed comments. Early doors Cunningham had a bit of success but landed less than Fury over the course of the fight. By the 5th it was getting obvious Cunningham was shot and for a giant Fury has a lot of stamina.
Valuev was huge, difference being he threw about 2 punches in a good round. Fury throws a lot of leather and keeps moving and leaning in which will exhaust a lot of smaller heavies.
He did OK and he proved again that whatever you think of him he has the stomach for it and never looks like giving up. Basically he's a proper fighter in that respect which should earn a bit of kudos. He will lose a few though over his career as those whiskers are clearly a bit suspect.

Well done Canelo! A more exciting fight than I expected, great crowd and worthy winner. The judge who had it 118-1109 should be tango'd though. Trout is one of the most gracious loser sI ever saw, also.

I agree with Paulie that open scoring killed a potentially thrilling ending as Alvarez knew he just had to survive.
I had 115/113 to Canelo and that was impressive from both men. I started to feel bad one of them would have to lose, as they're both likeable and talented fighters.
Canelo is smart. He doesn't have a high workrate, so rather than allowing himself to be outworked, or blowing his load too early, so he stepped off and brought the pace of the whole fight down, but still landed the better shots. His defense is better than I thought it would be.
Workrate, to me, is a key to beating Floyd, but Canelo is effective aggression incarnate and not that easy to hit. Floyd v Canelo is the fight, and Canelo appears to be the real deal.

Open scoring blows, and was a safety net for Canelo I think, as he is a slow starter. Mayweather won't have that, that's for sure.
