Personally I don't classify him as british but others do
I just get really confused by people including Fitz but not Jimmy who's claim to british nationality is just as strong

TBH mate it is confusing I left him out because I don't actually know as much about him as I should. I have read some stuff but not as much as I have on Fitz.

You should check him out, I mentioned it on a previous article but the strength in depth in the 1930's from Welterweight and below is unparalleled in boxing history as far as i'm concerned, one of the truly great Welterweight champions who would face literally anyone. Puts the exploits of the more modern weight hoppers to shame with the quality he beat but just didn't get the breaks that he'd be afforded today.
At Welterweight alone he holds wins over genuinely great boxers like Canzoneri, Ambers, Ross and Leonard, people bang on about the names Sugar Ray Leonard beat but they don't come close to that.
In the lower divisions where oddly he was slightly more inconsistent beat other greats like Villa, Mandell, Singer, Corbett and others i'm probably forgetting
A truly great forgotten fighter with one of the outstanding records

Not sure if you're much of a reader, PBK, but while we're on the subject I not long ago finished the McLarnin autobiography 'Babyface goes to Hollywood', which is an excellent read. I know that Rowley has also read it as well as one or two others on here, and I'd highly recommend it if he's a fighter you're wanting to look in to.

Leaving aside the Fitzsimmons/McLarnin are they British debate, the results are pretty much as one would expect and hope, with the exception of Owen Moran's final placing. It shows that the man from Birmingham remains Britain's most underrated boxer ever, in my opinion. Also interested to see that Lennox Lewis gets the narrow nod over his namesake Ted for the runner-up position, and the closeness of the vote between the top 3. Well done on organising the whole thing.

Would echo Chris's recommendation. Not sure if anyone has read any of Gallimore's other books but he also has biographies of Freddie Welsh and Mike McTigue out which are worth getting hold of, is always nice to see an author picking unusual subjects rather than inflicting yet another Ali book on the world

The Mike McTigue one was going for as little as £1.90 a couple of months ago, think it's back to around a £5, still a good price.

Of the three of his I have read would say the McTigue is the weakest but this is more a reflection on how good the other two are than any great weakness of that book, is still definitely worth a read.

Not many had him in their lists and most that did he was in the bottom half of their 10 so he never amassed points consistently throughout all the lists. I was suprised Benny Lynch never made the top 10 one of Britains greatest imo.

Think we were the only two include Moran cap'n, the most under rated british boxer in my opinion, definitely deserves to be in the chasing pack behind Kid Lewis and Wilde.

It's a shame that Moran didn't make the list; I included him, too, although I'm sure to the disgust of you and the captain he 'only' made number ten on my list.

Have him 8th possibly higher depending on my mood, can't understand how he's below some on that list, bizarre

Re: 606v2's British ATG P4P top 10 *RESULTS*
Their was a good few modern lists. I had Moran in 10th. Like I said most left him out and the ones that did have him he was in the bottom half of their lists. This is how he never amassed many points.

I look at things from a historical point of view and don't understand how anyone can come up with an ATG list having only seen boxers from the past twenty, hardly all time.
