Can King Stay King? Eddie Hearn
First topic message reminder :
He has the power, Sky Sports. He has the growing stable of prospects, world class amateur prospects. He has belt holders, two. He has backing from Matchroom, but, is he putting on the best fights?
I love Eddie Hearn but as of now I'd have to say... NO.
Tyson Fury was better than Blackpool, far more entertaining, more of a spectacle.
GBP have entered the UK with a very exciting, high profile card. Especially when you add in the A-Force factor. BOMB SQUAD!!!!
Canelo vs Trout. No question it was huge.
Martinez vs Murray. Despite a pi** poor under card, a huge fight nonetheless.
The only card arguably worse was Warren's. Which seemed flat, crowd wise, and well, it wasn't great was it?
Thoughts on Eddie's future? Can he get blockbuster fights that don't feed lambs to the slaughter? AKA: Rees vs Broner. Adam Smith was being coy on ifilm the other day. Implied a lack of unity.
Froch is a gift alright but who else is there?

Maybe Bute saw him as an easy target to legitimise his name.

Haha, yea right Az.
Because Channel 5 is were all the top fighters want to be. They should all leave that mickey mouse channel Sky Sports.
Channel 5 may have a bigger audience, but they couldnt afford to show the types of fights that Froch is/was in and I would say that the lower end of the percentage are not real sports fans but more who just want to see a fight for the sake of it being on.
Sky Sports is subscribed too by millions of hardcore sports fans, sports bars. More glamour.
Also, during the S6 there was no Channel 5 boxing (especially for World Title fights) I doublt you will EVER see a world title fight on C5....In fact, I will quit these boards and never return if a legitiment (no WBU, WBF or IBO etc) world title fight gets on C5. Silly post Az, even for you.

Top boxers want to be on TV and get paid well for it. BN won't cut it for UK fighters as there isn't the numbers there. Who knows where C5 are going with it. If they pull in the viewers they may stick with it. Far better than Sky as they have a bigger audience.
But its about the benjamins.

Froch's title fight with Pascal was shown live on ITV.

Don't get me wrong, I hear what you're saying. But I think viewing figures will only be that relevant due to it being terestrial channel as millions of homes have access and flick channels. This is still what counts when figures are given.
Tyson fury has built up a fan base by being a comical figure outside of the ring, and fair play. But remember, Kid Galahad and James Degale are also fighing on the same channel and its not really providing them with much of a platform. Channel 5 boxing just seems cheap and tackie. Compare it too ITV years ago when they knew how to broadcast a proper show. Eubank on his motorbike, naseem on a flyin carpet.
The fights iv seen on channel 5 have been dull as dishwater and I can tell you now that most of the tickets have been given away around local bars near where I live. So the exposure isn't increasing ticket sales either. Fury didn't need channel 5 to be known. That uppercut was what did that haha
Re: Can King Stay King? Eddie Hearn
That's C5 not knowing how to promote anything properly. If they pull in the figures (no idea what the last Fury fight got) then the ad revenue could pay for better promotions and better fighters. I don't know if the rumours are true of them pulling out of boxing, but for the sake of the sport it is far better to have easy access to it that being lost on BN or on pay tv like SKY.
Access to the masses is better than a specialised channel of a dedicated channel.

Excellent stuff from ozzy and reborn.
Warren has had things his own way with little domestic competition for years so it's great to have some rivalry, Frank will hopefully up his game.
I can't fault Hearn so far, I enjoy his shows and he gets fighters the bigger matches.
We also need to keep in mind that if these guys lose those matches then maybe, just maybe, it's because they're not good enough, regardless of their career management.

Some of Hearn's shows of late lack energy.

Re: Can King Stay King? Eddie Hearn
That maybe true but it's all about context.
The recent shows have not been his top tier fighters and the competition from Warren's bore fest last week still leaves Hearn winning.
This debate becomes valid when there is a direct comparison after the Froch card. Plus Burns has been in limbo and Brook injured which is no fault of Hearn's.
