So Legend of Lukas Rosol continues
The guy who made his name by just one match finally got a title in ATP tour, Rosol wins BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy in Bucharest today.
It wasn't an easy route for him, he had to beat some good players to get the title, brushing aside Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-2 in the final, No. 2 seed and three-time champion Gilles Simon in the semi-finals, and dropped just one set to third seed Andreas Seppi in the second round. The Czech became the third first-time winner this season, joining Bernard Tomic (Sydney) and Horacio Zeballos (Vina del Mar).
This is what Rosol had to say
“It could not be better this week. I came here from a full two weeks of practice. I didn't know what to expect of myself. So I’m pretty satisfied with this result… I will remember this week. It was very emotional for me and is something special. I found a way to beat some good players and succeed.”
Congrats Rosol, wish all the best for the rest of the year.

Well if Rosol has proved anything IC is that if he is hitting on all cylinders he can be a devil to play, maybe he can find some consistency and really make a push.

Would be interesting if he is cast along Nadal in RG in the same devil's second round

His father passed away 2 weeks ago. He dedicated this tournament victory to his father, that's why it was so emotional for him.

In times of past the only way to become a tennis legend was to work for an entire career building up a cv of legendary achievements. Now that we live in an era of a true legend it's a little less tricky. To become a legend all you have to do is be in the right place at the right time and catch Rafa on an off day. You will quickly be elevated to legendary status...
In 2013 another legend was born... Horacio Zeballos. Even the present number one player is not immune. Despite his already numerous achievements he is thinking of missing Madrid Rome and RG so that he can spend more time at home admiring his MC trophy and looking at his souvenir programme as evidence that it really did happen...
(There is of course another legend playing at the moment but he has a bad back, energetic twins to look after and a Wimbledon wardrobe to plan. He is also getting on a bit so can't be expected to bother too much about consistently winning tennis matches. A win against him is nice of course and something to tell the grandchildren about but realistically less rare. We can't go throwing legendary status about too casually)

Well it's all about H2Hs nowadays right? Rosol having a positive record against a great like Nadal makes him a legend logically. Haven't many knowledgeable tennis fans in recent years claimed that H2H is the be all and end all? Real achievements are a mere footnote.

May be thats what motivated him to play the best tennis, he really wanted to dedicate the trophy to his DAD and hence the best performance of his life.

You could at least try and be a little tactful Poor Novak was feeling so good. After reading your post I have to report he has just smashed ALL his racquets. He has been asking around for replacements but apparently none of the other players have any.... He will now have to withdraw from Madrid because of you.

Rosol gets into Rome draw as lucky loser (re: Tipsy pull out).
If he can beat Gulbis (a big IF) he then gets to play none other than Nadal!

Re: So Legend of Lukas Rosol continues
which is less of a big if.
If he does play Nadal again I'd rather have it on a fast hard court or Wimbledon again, clay will be an anticlimax and rather too predictable, just a question as to whether Rafa feels the need to really hammer him.

Re: So Legend of Lukas Rosol continues
But Rosol's favourite surface is clay ... "“My best surface is clay because I grew up on it. This is where I started to play tennis. I feel very comfortable on this surface” he said after his recent clay ATP title.
This is borne out by his combined Futures, Challenger and ATP stats.
Clay matches W/L: 149/101 (60%)
Hard matches W/L: 92/87 (51%)
To be honest, I think wherever they play again will be predictable.

I wonder if they ever will meet again. My gut says they won't ever meet again on the ATP tour.

HB I would suggest that Rafa has put it behind him.. if he dwelt on unpredictable losses he would never move forward... he has proven to all those doubters that he is who he is because his outstanding wins which far outweigh that particular loss. Rosol has something to tell his grandchildren but not half as much as Rafa has to tell his.
