Amazing films you've never seen
You know the kind of thing I mean, the moment you tell someone that you have never seen a certain film and they get that confused, almost concerned look on their poor face and then exclaim
"WHAT!!! You've never seen it......not even once"
Well you know what, no I haven't - and I don't care that it broke all known box office records and millions of people have seen it, or that it's considered a classic, or that your sister and her husband, who never usually go to the cinema, well even they went to see it, or that your mate, who doesn't really like this type of film, well even he enjoyed it !
I don't care because I know for a fact that unless I am forced at gunpoint I am never, ever, going to watch this film.
And for me the amazing film I've never seen is Avatar - Not in 3D or HD or on Blu-Ray, not at the cinema or at home , I can honestly say that I've never even watched a trailer for it. Nearly three hours of computer generated blue people Muppet around in a forest - I'll give it a miss thanks
So come on, what's the must see movie that, for whatever reason, you've just never got round to watching ?

Re: Amazing films you've never seen
I only saw the Godfather films last year (and I'm nearly 40 ). Well worth it for the first two. Godfather III is a bit too formulaic.
Never seen any of the following all the way through:
Goodfellas
Heat
Casino
Reservoir Dogs
The first three I've started watching but too late at night. For some reason I just never seem to catch Reservoir Dogs on the TV.

Seems to be a theme here on the Mafia films, I too have never seen them!
Had never seen Shawshank until the other night
Never seen Usual Suspects (but know the ending)
Others I've never seen:
Schindlers List
Seven Samurai
Lion King (or any pre Pixar Disney animation film barring Jungle Book)
It's a Wonderful Life
Dr Strangelove
The Exorcist
2001 Space Odyssey
Inception
Saving Private Ryan

Re: Amazing films you've never seen
Hero - my opinions:
Never seen Usual Suspects (but know the ending) - probably worth it, even if you know the twist.
Others I've never seen:
Schindlers List - MUST SEE
Seven Samurai - Haven't seen either, suspect it won't be all that great for modern film buffs.
Lion King (or any pre Pixar Disney animation film barring Jungle Book) - PIXAR do it so much better, by being much less schmaltzy.
It's a Wonderful Life - All time great film
Dr Strangelove - I think a real love it or hate it film. I was in the latter group.
The Exorcist - Good, but not that great
2001 Space Odyssey - The biggest load of pretentious incomprehensible nonsense this side of Bergman.
Inception - Also haven't seen
Saving Private Ryan - Even more a MUST SEE than Schindler's List, particularly for the first 15 to 20 minutes of the D-Day landings.

Re: Amazing films you've never seen
Saving Private Ryan was on the other night but was already half way through when I realised, will try and ensure I catch it next time it's doing the rounds.
List I know is a great film, I just really don't know if I want to subject myself to it (as bad as that sounds)

Re: Amazing films you've never seen
There are absolutely loads of "classics" I haven't seen. The trouble is, I'm squeamish and sensitive so that doesn't help with the likes of:
The Godfather films
The Shining
Full Metal Jacket
Taxi Driver
Scarface
The Exorcist
Saving Private Ryan (I heard it was very graphic with the battle scenes)
Anything by Quentin Tarantino
If they're not as violent/gory as I've heard then maybe I'll try.

With those classics Cari ye'll never get anywhere by being squeamish and sensitive. The Godfather films are good, especially the first one. I don't know if it's just me but I didn't find the violence all that bad. The only really violent bits in it are when Luca Brazzi gets knifed and sunny gets shot to bits.
Saving private Ryan's alright, I've seen worse for violence. If you're into horror you really should see the shining and I'd also recommend the original of "Misery"- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misery_%28film%29
Face your fears bonnie lass!
You can do it!
For me, especially as a rugby fan, I'd love to see Invictus. I missed the opportunity to see it in the cinema so will be getting a cheap DVD copy when I'm not as skint.

Invictus is a good (though not great) film. As a rugby fan you will though be a bit embarrassed by the passing and kicking techniques displayed by the actors (the same with most sporting films - Kevin Costner's golf swing in Tin Cup being another example of why the pro's are so much better than the rest of us). Good to see a bit behind the curtain of the SA RWC though.

Re: Amazing films you've never seen
Well I've watched other violent films like Goodfellas, Apocalypse Now and The Crying Game. I think it depends on how it's done really. Like, I can't tolerate watching someone suffering or loads of gore - so graphic depictions of a gunshot or someone getting beaten - when it's necessary, I can cope with that. Horror films are a massive no no for me. I'm really scared of them!

Saving Private Ryan is terrbile - dont watch it due to the graphic nature. Insteade avoid it due to overlong poor story telling that goes nowhere.
I am a huge Spielberg fan but this was terrible.

Re: Amazing films you've never seen
Cheers Dummy_Half, looking forward to getting it, Matt Damon's rugby skills could provide a bit of a laugh. There's a special feature on the DVD, turning a hollywood superstar into a rugby player- should be interesting too.
Cari, you're a rugby fan. You've probably seen a bit of claret tons of times. Just remember it's only a movie and it's not real. When Meath get beat it affects me the same way, but I'll still be watching the sunday game. I've never found horror movies scary at all, I've been watching stuff like the thing, misery, Halloween and the shining since I was a kid.
Saving private ryan wasn't too bad Hobo, there's a lot worse. The final battle scene when the Germans are coming into the ruined town with tanks is quite atmospheric, especially when you;re watching it for the first time. Windtalkers and the German war movie "das boot" were probably better than it.

Gaelic - I have to admit I have seen the odd dislocated finger and thumb in rugby, and a bit of blood (nothing too bad) and I can watch medical stuff on TV - but they're not disturbing like horror films. Look up "A Serbian Film" on wiki - I bet you wouldn't watch that. even reading about it disturbed me!

Wow indeed! Other than the frantic opening 20 minutes on the beach, the film was flat, lacking in any real substance and overly long.
The ending was good but overall just a tedious, monotonous film whose only marketable element was the realism of the opening salvo.
I am being serious - terribly over rated.

There's a big difference between a real horror film and this (which sounds like muck by the way). This sounds like one of those things were they've got no original ideas at all and as a result try to make it as controversial as possible. This stuff just sounds plain sick, you don't need to be squeamish to be disturbed by something like this. Don't get me wrong though, if someone convinced me that it was a decent movie with something to say I would watch it, but, atm it sounds like complete mince.
Saving private ryan isn't the best war movie ever, but it does get its point across very well. It's got a few atmospheric bits that stick you right into the situation, the plot is pretty well worked and the characters are just right for it.
Some good'uns there MTM, scarface, Apollo 13, the shining are good and No country for old men is class as well. Never been a big harry potter of lord of the rings fan.

absolutely agree - they both give career best performances (although that wasnt a stretch for Fox!)
Harrowing film but amazing.
Re: Amazing films you've never seen
Saw (any of them) look pointless from the trailers and sound pointless from what ice been told. Any of the old slasher films eg Halloween or Friday the 13th
Few people on here not seen avatar, actually wish I could unwatch that movie
I noticed above somebody said die hard 4 was good. Apologies but have to disagree. Odd numbered die hard films are good, even numbered are poor imo
I've seen saving private Ryan once and enjoyed it but wouldnt watch it again in a hurry
