Haye Signs With Matchroom
First topic message reminder :
Apologies if this has already been posted but Eddie Hearn has confirmed that David Haye has signed a 'long-term' promotional agreement with Matchroom and will face Manuel Charr in June.
This seems like a good move for both men. Haye gets the Sky platform and Matchroom get the heavyweight they were lacking.
Thoughts?

The funny thing is strongback, if you are anything like you are on these boards in real life then I would imagine you have driven a fair few people to tune into a Haye fight and therefore line his pockets purely through your insanely consistent and boring rants about the guy....
I can imagine you now walking through your local supermarket talking out aloud about how Haye is the biggest crook in boxing and a fraud, all the while casual fans ears perk up and go home to see just who this Haye bloke is!!

There's a smell off that Booth guy now. Seems nobody wants to deal with him.
Hopefully Daddy Hearn stitches Booth up nice and tight and applies a financial wedgie.
You literally are just making stuff up, every channle that does boxing would want Haye on it.

Let's be honest Strongback,
If you spent as much time considering your OMPL prediction picks as you do rambling on about how much of bad guy and fraud Haye is, you may not be lingering down near the bottom of the table

The fact I picked almost every fight as a draw in the first round shows how seriously I was taking it.

Clearly not a maths genius, given that the probablity of a draw in each match is likely to be on parr with a lottery win. That tactic was a poor copy of a wind up, done better by Rowley back in the day with his "the man on the left, UD" predictions!

Wasn't a wum! Was an attempt to hide the fact I had not heard of half of the guys I was predicting on.

Nah, it was a poor copy of a wind up that Scotty used to employ on the UCPL. He was the original champion of the 'All Draws' strategy. It used to wind Union up no end so it was well worth it.

Surely that is a direct copy, which is even worse!! Not one iota of imagination went into it! At least with the Rowley comparison (a WUM by any other name is still a WUM), I was giving him the benefit of the doubt!

Re: Haye Signs With Matchroom
Bloke on the left UD is actually not a bad method. Union used to get wound up with me but he was architect of his own problems. He was the one who told us once that bloke on the left Ud would have meant you would have finished 4th one season.

Re: Haye Signs With Matchroom
I'm not debating the method, rather the intention! The last time Union ran a league, I was the only one to get my predictions in time and so declared the winner. (A hollow victory at best). The thread was closed and locked. Five minutes later I saw a new entry in there from a certain administrator, who had abused his rights by re-opening the thread and putting in "bloke on the left, UD". Tell me the intention was not to wind up poor Union!! Did make me chuckle though!
You still lost! And that is against me!!

I didn't copy......it was 10 points for a draw prediction and I couldn't be arsed looking up the fighters I've never seen fight. It was a lazy man's answer so it doesn't surprise me Rowley was fond of using similar in the past.
For week 2 I just copied Chris88's prediction and changed the eko/lko/ud around.

So when you said it showed how seriously you were taking it, the answer is clearly not very ... which was the accusation that Ozzy laid at your door in the first place, only to be venomously denied. Can we just agreed you don't really give a rats about the league?

Re: Haye Signs With Matchroom
Ouch Trussman, that was a hurtful little dig at the Brits,
I would suppose it depends how far down in terms of numbers you have a 'British All Time Great' list..
Many people use the fact the K brothers have fought in an era devoid of much talent at Heavyweight when defending the records of both. I think a similar thing can be done for Haye at Cruiserweight. The division hardly consisted of household names that were going to make him pots of cash.
The fact is he unified 3 of the 4 main belts at Cruiserweight and took out the guy generally regarded as the #1 at the division. He did so away from home after getting up off the canvas and in only his 21st fight.
He then stepped up and took a portion of the Heavyweight title. Ok so his opponent when winning the belt left a lot to be desired but the fact is he is very small heavyweight fighting in an era of giants. Valuev may be one of the worst heavyweights in history but he was still 9inches taller...around 3 stone heavier and had a huge reach advantage...lest we forget that he had held the belt twice and the brothers showed no interest in fighting him which given they wanted to hold all 4 belts as they said repeatedly, was a little strange.
He has achieved a lot in a very short space of time and he at least got people talking again about a division which has been close to death for the past 10 years. This is something he gets very little credit for and regardless of how he went about he should get some at the very least.

Re: Haye Signs With Matchroom
Think it is a bit of a stretch Ozzy to say the brothers did not want any part of Valuev. During his title reign Valuev was tied up with Don King and has a record of around 45-0. Don was getting a lot of publicity for him as the guy who could break Marciano's 49-0 ledger. Don't think King would have put him in with a brother at that time for all the money in Fort Knox, his brief was very much to nurse him to the Rock's figure and obviously once Chageav upset the apple cart the fight lost much of its lustre.

Re: Haye Signs With Matchroom
Rowley - Excellent points to be fair. I agree that perhaps King wanted to milk Valuev for all he was worth during that first reign and in all likelihood the fight was never likely to be made regardless of whether the K brothers wanted it or not. I think the slight gripe I have is that they never even seemed to want to make the fight...and for two brothers who talked so much about leaving a legacy of holding all 4 belts, you'd have thought they would have at least attempted to make it happen.
As for losing it's luster I'm not sure that can used as any excuse given who the brothers have fought (and rematched) in the past few years. I certainly would have preferred to see Valuev v either brother over Rahman or Brewster!

Re: Haye Signs With Matchroom
To be fair, Valuev was never particularly active after the Haye fight. Must have gone into hibernation or something! I do believe that this is the one fight that the Brothers Grimm should have made, though.

When Wlad beat Chagaev it should have been for the WBA title that Chagaev won off Valuev.
