Leinster v Glasgow Warriors The Semi Cometh
First topic message reminder :
Well boys, here we are at the mid-way point on the rope bridge: who will tumble into the crocodile infested waters and who will march on to Ulster?
Thereplacements bench vs Connacht pretty much tells us who will deffo start, so
1. Grant (British and Irish front row of the season)
2.WeePee ( although I can't put a cigarette paper between him and Hall on form)
3. Angela ( pit mair weight oan that bar!)
4.Swinson (unbelievably consistent this season)
5. Kellock ( if paternity leave is over, Ryder played very well v Connacht but we wont go to a Dublin semi without our spiritual leader)
6. Bluto
7. Barclay
8. Wilson ( the back row picks itself, Harley is very unfortunate but will be on the bench)
9. Matawaloo (furra linee)
10. Ruaridh ( he is the only 10, with Horne and Hogg as cover)
11. DTH
12.
13.
14. Maitland
15. Hogg
The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed no centres. I think this is where Toonie will earn his corn, or not.
Horne-Schlong were good on Friday. Schlong was very good going forward, but can he defend against the angles BOD will conjure up?
Morrison- Dunbar would be solid defensively and if Dunbar got the ball could be effective going forward.
Morrison-Messiah would certainly carry some clout.
Dunbar-Horne would be the most attack minded.
Then again 10-12-13 could be Horne-Dunbar-Messiah defending from out to in and forcing Madigan back into the loving embrace of Barclay.
I know games are won or lost in the pack, but if Toonie picks the right centre combination we will win convincingly as opposed to throwing away a winning position earlier in the season.
How many sleeps till the match?

Our locks are deceptive and if you watch the game played in the RDS this year back a few times you will HATE Leo Cullen, don't deny it until you have watched it at least 3 times.
We have potentially the best backrow in the league IMO and they are all big game players with experience that the Glasgow lads can only dream of.
Darce and BOD may not be outstanding attacking threats but write them off at your peril and they will have no problem defending against big centres (your lads are small compared to some of the guys they have faced this season)
Your back3 looks TASTY. Very tasty. Add in that duracell bunny at 9 and you have some game breakers. If however it descends in to a kicking game, I know what back 3 and what halfbacks I will be backing.
Love a good old tussel
Surprised that you say this, Pete, tbh - your backrow is a bit of a curate's egg for me. Lockie isn't at the same standard imo as any of the other backrowers on display (arguably Wilson isn't either), and playing SOB seems to confuse Heaslip as to his role (certainly in Ireland's green). Pat Jennings is also a bit past his sell-by date ... now where's Gibbo

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.....
I believe that this statement rings true hugely with Leinster and in particular the Leinster forwards back 5

Re: Leinster v Glasgow Warriors The Semi Cometh
I don't get how Jimbo can't separate the teams. When they met 6 weeks ago, Glasgow were missing 2 Lions... We were missing 6 plus Mike Ross.
Not saying you cannot win this, and we did struggle to beat you last time, but we have got to be favourites on paper.
On grass it is harder to tell.....
Looks like shyte weather is on the way, so a free flowing game with the Horne at outhalf may not work out for you.
I think we SHOULD have too much for you, whether it plays out that way, we'll see in 24 hours and 10 minutes time.

He is indeed. He was a great keeper back in the 70s though. Huge hands.... And you know what they say? Re: Leinster v Glasgow Warriors The Semi Cometh
Apologies for the absence, been holed up in the flowing hills of Dumfriesshire.
Both teams look tasty, but Horne at 10 is the biggest worry for Glasgow and O'Brien's illness is probably Leinster's.
Front row couldn't be separated by a whisker, although you'd suspect if Cusack was fit, Glasgow might just have had the upper hand. Second row is pretty even too, with Leinster probably having the edge in the lineout and Glasgow the loose.
Back row... Wow, two great trios here. Strauss, Barclay and Wilson have gelled massively of late and are producing some of the best performances of a Glasgow back row since the height of the Killer B's. Leinster are well oiled and dangerous as hell, but if O'Brien is out, they will be lacking some of their impetus.
Half backs... Niko is a livewire and does some of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Pete is an attacking choice and one that almost makes sense in that they have Jackson to bring on to kick for the corners in the last quarter if needed. Sexton is class personified and if he gets his game going, he should run the show. But will the Glasgow back row manage to impact him like the Leinster one did to Matawalu and Jackson last time these teams faced each other.
Now on to the centre, where Glasgow have picked the twin battleships of Dunbar and Lamont, who will provide plenty of go forward for the outside backs, who look like they're enjoying their rugby! Leinster have gone for the old heads, with D'Arcy in for the Madman. Expect fireworks...
Bench is interesting too, with Glasgow looking strong apart from young Fraser Brown, and Leinster likewise, especially with Madigan on the bench. Possible weak links are Cooney, who has impressed but isn't the finished article and McGrath, who did well vs A Jones last week but will face a big test again this week.
I'm swithering on this one but can see Glasgow just holding on to win at the end of a fantastic game...

Good to see you back, UIG. Good summation of the teams too. If Glasgow get the better of the back rows and can get to Sexton that could be crucial. It could all be down to how fit SOB is, but what are the chances of the Messiah coming on and astounding everyone?

Best balanced backrow in Europe? SOB - Jennings - Heaslip. 2nd best? Locky - Jennings - Heaslip. Stop with the internal dialogue already posters. There is no discussion required. It just is.
See you in Dublin next week bydeway, As. I cannae wait mon!

UiG,
was it exam time or were you out to pasture ????? Good to have you back mate. Big day is here and, weather apart, should be a belter of a game. Pete 'Hornee furra Linnee' Horne has had a great season and will keep the Leinster defence very interested as will the 2 giant centres Dunbar and Lamont. Hopefully this will let the speedsters in from the back and Niko the Nutta from, well, anywhere in the field really !

Aye ASBO too true.
BTW Mrs Schizo was at the real Angela's the other day in the leafy West End. The whole thing was set up by Beattie Snr the naughty news presenter (he is a news reader on Radio Scotland while also a top rock star). Anyway Angela was not in on the joke until Wee Dunkie cracked up on camera and a re-take was required.

"Weather apart"
I am really hoping that Dublin is flooded with the amount of rain. I think if it turns in to an arm wrestle you guys won't be able to live with us. We have superior kickers from hand, a pack that knows how to win and a very good defensive lineout.

Looks like some light rain but then again the elements made a mockery of the weather forecast in Ravenhill last night too.

Pete, I think the" Whatever it takes" line was introduced to the Warriors by Toonie. If you watch the Living with Lions video then just before each of the Tests while other players are giving inspirational speeches Toonie is in the background exhorting his team mates to do, "whatever it takes boys, whatever it takes." I think it says something about his desire to stamp his philosophy, and authority, on Glasgow that that message now adorns almost all empty spaces in Scotstoun stadium.( Good thing we don't play at Murrayfield).

Re: Leinster v Glasgow Warriors The Semi Cometh
So difficult to call this one.
Some interesting Beeb articles and blogosphere pieces which essentially state that there are plenty of Leinster fans who think their team really just have to turn up as their record this season against the Weej is 2 out of 2.
The reason I don't think it will quite be that simple is because every article I have read with Glasgow players have mentioned that the team is no longer intimidated by Leinster and the second loss in particular made the team realise that if they start fast they stand every chance. They have learned a huge amount from these losses.

Georgie, I can tell you from the heart, that this Leinster fan is full of trepidation going into this one. I would rather have anyone else in the League than ye right now. I think all knowledgeable Leinster fans feel the same way. Ye are a dangerous force, on a mission. Ye don't fear us anymore, even at the RDS. And looking back over the last 2 seasons, why should ye? This one will be tight. I'm backing Sexton to be the differ... I hope.
Respect.

Aye Gibbo,
lets hope for a real good game of rugby football that whoever wins (or loses) we can be proud to have watched and for the players taken part in - after the 0-6 game they owe us one !

If I lived near Glasgow, Id pay to watch em every 2nd week. And I'm a fussy bhugger about the kind of rugby I pay to see... Love the attitude.
The fans on here are people Id have pints with any day.
That's all yer gettin... for now.

Gibson - the only thing disappointing about Glasgow's season has been the attendances. They have not been much better than Edinburgh's, and we've had an awful season!
In a City of 900 000 there really should be more than 3.5 / 4k people at each game. Problem is Footlball dominates in Glasgow, and the Glasgow amature club scene isn't as strong as it used to be.
Think Scotstoun is around 6.5k and it can be expanded up to 15k.

Good Man. We are meeting in the local rugby club for a few then concentrate on the action. Do we book flights to Dublin or wait until Air Fungus and Dan Dair jack up their prices ?

Cheers man. Ya know, I would have thought that with the demise of Rangers and the fact that Celtic are shoite... would really have helped convince more people to see a proper team, playing a proper game, on their own doorstep. They really need to start looking at proper promotion and morkeshing of the Warriors brand.
Leinster had 500 souls watching them in Donnybrook, not so long ago. It can be done. But it takes excellent planning and foresight to achieve it.
Get on to the club. Embarrass yer soccerball mates for not going to a real mans game. Stir it up.

Re: Leinster v Glasgow Warriors The Semi Cometh
According to the last post I made on this thread, the game was yesterday
One of my mates is a big Leinster fan and he was talking about an ulster vs Leinster final yesterday, like it was already a fixture.
Although Leinster are heavy favourites, I reckon Glasgow should give them more of a game than Scarlett's gave ulster last night.
First Scottish side to make a final... Can they do it? Or will Leinster show their class and march to their twentieth plus final? or whatever the figure is..

I know lots of BIG Leinster fans. They help feed the coffers but they haven't a bleedin clue. Not knocking it, they will learn as they go along. Thats cool too.
Any Leinster fan, who's mind is already on the Final, is naive to say the least.
I can tell by Schmidt's interviews. He knows this game will go to the wire. So do the squad. That's why we have a HC Final quality side out there. Even though we play Stade in the Amlin Final in 6 days time
That says it all for me.

Ja, it worked small scale for me in my circles. This I know. Once they get a taste of it. Once they Tour with their Tribe, they are sold!
Now I cant get a phookin Amlin Final ticket meself!

Ja bud. The fans can do an awful lot to promote their team, but the real impetus must come from the Club. Deals like, bring a mate new to rugby, get your ticket half-price. Promote knock-down family tickets. Topless rah-rah girrrls. Whatever It Takes to fill the ground. It will snowball. Make it sexy. Just don't make it as sexy as us roysh?
It can be done.

Have to say as a (relative) neutral it is great to see good debate, banter and humility on here - there's so much crap on V2 recently it is good to know there are good people on here!
I'm off to the boozer, and being Edinburgh will probably struggle to see the rugby!
Best of luck to both teams, but come on the Weedge!!!!!
