Manny Pacquiao vs Brandon Rios November 23 2013

Pacquiao vs Rios has been set for the above date in Macua, China.

They will fight at the welterweight limit.

Both Marquez(for a $13m purse) and Bradley($6m non title fight) rejected fighting in Asia.

Should be a competitive fight.

Remains to be seen how much Pacquiao has left.

If Rios loses, I'd like to see him fight Victor Ortiz.

Depends on whether Pacquiao will continue to be aggressive, as he was successful against Marquez early, or decides to box more

If its the former, even though Pacquiao is past his best, I see a one sided hammering with Rios getting stopped in the mid rounds. He'll come to fight, but like margarito he will have to ansorb so much punishment and I doubt he can take it. He has a punchers chance but I doubt it

If its the latter, Pacquiao boxes rings around him with his speed as Alvarado, who is a slugger, managed to stay out of danger for large parts of the rematch and he is nowhere near as quick, skilled or powerful as Pacquiao

Rios has had hard fight after hard fight and this could be a career shortening (ending?) fight

Let's be fair.....Pacquiao will hammer him.

Rios list to Alvarado and should have lst to abril.

He is a face forward fighter with no defence.

Alvarado injured his hand in the Rios fight.

His hand hasn't recovered so Arum gave the fight to Rios

This will be the most one sided fight ever rios is so overrated and will be stopped after 6 rounds of punishment will be an embarrassment and is only being made to make manny look good which is fair enough but at what expense to rios career

Could he not fight provdokinov or someone like that though? Maybe even Guerrero, berto, Ortiz, Alexander etc etc.

Why rios? To make him look like gold on an over rated fighter coming off the back of a loss.

If you listen to Rios he already sounds punch drunk and is still only 27

He has been picked as he will make Pacquiao look as good as ever

It's frustrating that he is purely picking an opponent to look great and not to test himself Or come back and fight someone decent with a boxing brain. (probably because he would lose)

I hope Rios gets the snot beat out of him and ends up a complete mess.

Can't stand the guy, the way he reacted to people questioning his "win" over Richard Abril was pathetic.

I don't think he has lost as much as people are saying he has always struggled with Marquez and was doing better in the last fight till he walked into the right! And Bradley is more elusive he was fighting face fwd plodders before then and altho cotto isn't he did for some reason in there fight for te first 5 rounds! Mosley he never lost a round but as soon as fighters become smart and start walking back he just doesn't look as good,

Manny was very good against Marquez, and had it not been for "The Knockout" I think he could have really hurt Marquez (keep in mind Marquez was concussed and couldnt remember what happened during the fight in hospital). Most frustrating thing about the KO was that it happened with one second left in the round, there was no need to lunge, and no definite reward.

Rios is a good fight to take following a defeat. I dont really get why people are hating following the pick. Its pretty customary to fight someone overmatched following a loss. And Manny did try get Alvarado.

Can Marquez get a bigger fight than $13 million though?

Think Manny should retire..............Has had a good career.........Showed deterioration in the last few years and has other interests..........

Not sure how he enhances his legacy now.............

Manny v Diaz but worse if Manny turns up in the same mood he did against Marquez in their last fight. I thought Manny was devstating even though he lost he opened up Marquez. Marquez landed really only 2 shots which both put Manny down.

Marquez deserved 13m he koed him manny is ducking him though....

Marquez will probably fight Pacquiao after Braldey if he wins

I have I admit that $13mil seems a hell of a lot for marquez to turn down at this point of his career and is easily his biggest payday in his career by some way

I'm sure Arum will put Shimming on the undercard to really milk it to the Asia population and it'll probabaly reap the rewards

If it's anything like the UFC events in Japan then it starts early morning locally to meet US tv schedules so effectively the same time as a Vegas fight for us in the UK

I dont know if the fight will do well on PPV, but I dont think it matters, the Asian market is huge, I can realistically see this fight being watched by 100 million plus people. Plus Asian nations tend tax sports stars like their on welfare, so financially this should get big.

My only concern is that Manny hasnt cut down on any external responsibilties. I'm not sure how much of Pacquiao's decline is real, and how much was brought on by external factors. What kind of a boxer doubles as a pro basketballer, politician, singer and actor? We have seen the open practises. The guy couldnt even motivate himself to train for a grudge match vs his rival, will he be bothered to train for a fight vs a rank fighter?

If the asain market was that big he'd have spent his career fighting there as would Donaire..

Pacquiao to administer a Margarito-esque beating to Rios, after all both Pacquiao and Roach have some past beef with Rios.

Totally agree, I am a huge Marquez fan, but Pacquiao looked great in that fight for the majority of it. Pacquiao still has something to offer boxing and is not as shot as some people think he is.

I agree with Truss that he should really retire because he has had a sensational career and will be remembered in history as one of the greats of this era. However I love watching Pacquiao fight, so I'm glad he is carrying on.

Guess the average wage has gone up in Asia since I last checked.........

Well if he beats Rios, which he should easily, then he can retire if Marquez or Braldey can't come to an agreement and go out on a loss

It won't enhance legacy, but its better going out in style then on your face

My main point is the
Pac-Marquez and Pac-Mayweather cases are slightly different.

I believe Pac got beat by the Meme factor in his last fight. He was in control until a donkey kick powered punch landed on his granite head and somehow managed to shake him back to the bedrock of his kinsfolk.

Pacquiao isn't finished. He needs to refocus and take care of business in the ring. He should put right the Bradley defeat and then a mega fight with Floyd or JMM.

He must be making a packet fighting in China.

Just another example that Bob Arum doesn't care about his fighters to me. Even the warriors who put on great shows for him at a time when he's on his arse because he has a dwindling stable of elite fighters.

I mean, Rios will get butchered with his face first style. Punch drunk style.

300million (presumably) watched Zou on his debut in a 4 rounder, add that Arum said that pacquiao won't fight I the states you can come to this conclusion pretty easily
