Manny Pacquiao vs Brandon Rios November 23 2013

First topic message reminder :

Pacquiao vs Rios has been set for the above date in Macua, China.

They will fight at the welterweight limit.

Both Marquez(for a $13m purse) and Bradley($6m non title fight) rejected fighting in Asia.

Should be a competitive fight.

Remains to be seen how much Pacquiao has left.

If Rios loses, I'd like to see him fight Victor Ortiz.

To me Rios is just a smaller version of Margarito. Manny is going to tear him up.

Pretty sure he offered them both good money and they turned it down. You're right, we would be mighty disappointed if Floyd fought Rios. But, no one considers Manny on Floyd's level anymore. He's coming off two back-to-back losses. It's an ok-ish fight.

Manny has lost his last two fights though. If Floyd had lost his last two fights and fought a "chump" like Rios I wouldn't care.

The irony of Azania's comment... Manny is just following Mayweather's advice:

Pacquiao didn't really have many options due to the Top Rank and Golden Boy feud.

So that immediately rules out Ortiz, Guerrero, Alexander, Maidana etc.

Secondly Golden Boy and Ortiz would've been nuts to have agreed to fight Pacquiao so soon after having his jaw smashed into pieces.

After Marquez and Bradley snubbed Pacquiao and agreed to fight each other.

The only options left where Alvarado and Rios.

With Alvarado on the shelf, Rios was all that was left.

Basically Rios was the last resort.

Mayweather is unbeaten and the biggest draw. Manny lost to these 2 guys and has 'lost' 4 times to JMM. JMM deserves the bigger purse.

JMM should get 60/40 seeing as he has schooled Manny 4 times already. Bradley should have been given 40% as he was gifted a decision. But he is the belt holder.

Pacquiao is probably looking at 20mil+ at a better tax rate. Considering that he sells his own fights to Filipino TV for 2-3 million, that means he will make very close to 25 million, taking home nearly 20, and thats before the PPV cuts (not actually expecting more than 700k-800k for a fight in China, mind you). Asia is the next frontier.

Like someone said, Marquez hasnt been in a PPV main event against someone other than Manny and Floyd. While I suppose Marquez has been intelligent with his money, its hardly the same financial ground to allow one to be greedy.
Without a Mayweather fight, Pac will continue to make $25+ a fight, without a Pac fight, Marquez, at 39, wont be smelling that money.

There is no way that decision was made financially.

Hardly 60-40. And definitely not the same split as Manny-Marquez

Back in 2010 Manny & Floyd were much closer to 50/50 for drawing power.... Manny had the free to air build up show through being on Showtime, the same formula Floyd is now using.

If they were negotiating now then of course Floyd would rightly have the lion's share. In 2010 when this debate was valid, 50/50 seemed fair.

I blame both camps for not making it happen.
