I don't think they can. Moyes needs two things next season:

1. A title challenge, preferably with a win
2. A cup run, preferably in the Champions League, and if he doesn't win the league, then a cup win

Otherwise he'll be the guy who took over Fergie's champions and finished 2nd/3rd/4th and ruined the club. Imagine the media frenzy if he wins nothing, it'll be a nightmare for him and the club.

I think most reasonable pundits will accept United will likely need a transition period.

Sure he'll need results sooner or later, but so does pretty much every other manager in the world bar Steve Kean.

GSC dont waste your typing. You cant explain to someone why Mourinho isnt a good choice if they dont understand Man United ethos.

I think the any sensible media outlet will realise that replacing the most successful manager in history is going to take a bit of doing, and Moyes like any manager will need time to settle into the job.

And I'm fairly sure he'll do well.

It actually could be worth a bet Gregers. I myself wouldn't take it but I can see why punters would.

I think Robbie Savage said on last nights FF that there is a "Circus" that follows Mourinho. Thats one thing Man United dont want that.

A couple of quid on it could make it worth it, if they finish in the top four then no biggie but the odds could be quite good

Jose back home, Moyes to United, Rafa to Arsenal, Martinez to Everton

Top four next season
1) Chelsea
2) Arsenal
3) Spurs
4) City (Mancini to get sacked mid season)
5) United

Moyes will struggle NOT to win trophies, he's inheriting the best team in the country after all. Which is why if he doesn't win anything next year, pressure will mount.

I've heard people talk and talk and talk about this supposed Man United 'ethos' - but not one of them has explained what that tripe actually means. The United 'ethos' I can see is a simple one - be better than everyone else and win everything we can. I don't see that appointing Moyes fits with that ethos.

Next season will be very interesting - imagine if United buy no-one, which I'm being told is the sensible option, and City go and buy Verratti, Cavani, Ogbonna and Eriksen. They then blister the start of the season, beat United twice, progress in Europe and canter to the league. What happens to Moyes in the face of that? Do they give him £150m next summer? Or do they sack him and get someone more experienced?

It's all ifs and maybes, but I can see that happening just as easily as another United title.

We won't. Simple as really.

Although I still dislike Raf he has won me round to respecting him. He's done a good job this season (although his obsession with Benayoun needs to stop!)

Won't happen for me. Player for player they may have the best squad in the whole league and I can see a title for them if he gets them firing.

Plays him as first-choice.

Cech
Azpilicueta-Ivanovic-Terry-Cole
Ramires-Luiz
Mata-Oscar-Hazard
Lukaku

With new players coming in like Falcao, Schurrle etc.

tbf Gregers a couple quid on good odds cant hurt. I could see a lot of non Man United fans backing a wager like that. Most are thinking Man United time is over now SAF is going.

I wouldn't fall under the smoke screen of pretty tippy tappy football.

Liverpool are doing just the same, if not worse (no cup this year, gonna be no europa league) this season.

Coutinho looks a good buy, but lets not forget he spunked the best part of 30 million on Joe Allen and Fabio Borini...

He does indeed. Rogers still has a bit to sort out at Liverpool.
Imagine is Suarez goes.....they cant attract a player of his quality with no Europe so replacing his goals with a proven top class striker I cant see happening.

Allen will come good, Borini has been injured most of the season

If they have another good transfer window (In Jan they got some good players in) then they could be the darkhorses next season. Plus he's got Henderson looking like a vaguely good player as well

The Old Trafford club have put a entry on their Facebook page that says "Send your personal welcome to our new manager David Moyes".
BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22453895

Anyone on facebook confirm that?

Soddy, I was born the year before he took over at Man United. The day I got my first kit (one I can vividly remember not a "baby grow" kit type thing) so age of 4 & being told who McClair & Hughes were by my uncle Ive grown up & always known Man United & football with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Next season, to start with, will feel strange without him.
