Lions only have one 10
First topic message reminder :
Having watched the Sarries - Northampton game yesterday anyone else scared that we have only one 10? He was pretty awful (again) and definitely not Lions class.

I quite like him though, and I don't think his lack of genius comes from a lack of effort, I think he'll try really hard for the Lions, and it may be the making of him. Personally, I think another 10 will be flown out, hopefully Hook or Biggar, and they will help to steer the ship.
I think that in a sense they're banking on an injury at some point to be honest. They want to start with two 10s to make sure that they each get enough gametime, but come test week they'll want a realistic third option to start in midweek. The same happened last time when they started with O'Gara and Jones, but ended up flying Hook out for Halfpenny half way through the tour to start the midweek games.

Re: Lions only have one 10
Funnily enough the way Hogg handled himself against Leinster at 10 made me think having him in that role for the Lions isn't the worst Idea Gatland could have in the next few weeks.
He kicked pretty well, only missing one kick and distributed the ball well... don't be surprised to see him get a crack at 10 against the Baa Baas at some point, keep kicking duties with Halfpenny at 15 to keep the pressure off whoever is starting at 10.

Hogg was first receiver in a lot of their back moves. To be honest the Glasgow backline was a bit of a muddle at times with Horne, Jackson and Hogg all getting a shot at first reciever.

Re: Lions only have one 10
WARREN backs his man.
"It has been tough for Owen but he tends to respond well to adversity and come back stronger," Gatland said. "One of the reasons we like him is because he is mentally tough."
Farrell's late-season performances were criticised as both Saracens and England saw promising campaigns come up short, but Gatland insisted: "He will react well to any criticism and I am sure he will do well on the tour."

Re: Lions only have one 10
Gatland is bound to back him. He isn't exactly known for saying 'I was wrong' is he? The scary thing is who does he pick instead if Farrell/Sexton gets injured?
Jonny - I doubt it - wouldn't want the media circus (and he was pretty crap, at best, in his last few international games)
Hook - considered a bit flaky by Gatland at this level - plays well for Perpignan but has always had a habit of throwing horrible intercepts
Biggar - limited but effective - probably the best option
Madigan - completely untested at this level - too much of a gamble
Jackson - not ready yet
Laidlaw - makes ROG look a good defender
ROG - please no!
The cupboard is pretty bare to say the least. Hopefully Farrell will surprise us all and Sexton won't get hurt!

Burns would be no different to Madigan, both are not ready and will benifit from Int games this summer.
