2 more marshals have come forward to say that Woods was told he could hit, but it was after he had pulled the club.

Why would he then lie about the marshalls instead of just apologizing graciously?
Focus, I suppose?
I think he's the most calculating sports person of the modern (American) era, for better - that's his genius - and, sometimes, for worse.
There is a hell of a lot more to his genius than just focus.
I doubt he even remembered talking to the marshals, why would be really care. To him the whole incident was probably utterly irrelevant to the round.

Re: Tiger at it again !!
Digs,
We have to assume it was a storm in a teacup.
Consensus here among many respected commentators that anything he might have done was inadvertent, but that he should have apologized on his way to the green and certainly not have fanned the flames by complaining that Sergio always had something to complain about.
Three incidents in six rounds is becoming a habit though and he'll receive scrutiny he'd just as soon avoid going forward. Which he may find an unwelcome irritant or perhaps "utterly irrelevant"!
Whatever the rights and wrongs there are very few in the American media with the stomach to mix it with Tiger; most of them see him as their meal-ticket.

Well maybe the incidents are a bit like buses, none for 20 years then 3 come at once.
I suspect if the other player involved at Sawgrass hadn't been El Sulk they would have got a locker room apology which is where Woods seems to prefer to talk to other players. Garcia chose to go public over a nothing incident and IMO got exactly the put down he deserves. And let's face it its true. Garcia is the biggest whiner on tour.

Think he is a bit of a whiner but never seen anyone hit a ball like it. Saw him at the open one year, raised tee, long iron, he hit the bloody thing down the hill before it started to rise. Most incredible shot I saw that week, absolutley drilled.

Re: Tiger at it again !!
How on earth these guys are expected to ascertain where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard? And more to the point, how are regular club players going to do the same thing without marshals and officials to help?
I played on Tuesday, and a guy sliced one into a lake shaped like a jigsaw piece. We would have need a satellite and hawkeye to determine where it last crossed the line of the hazard.
Maybe the way forward is to have a drop zone, with no other options.

American golf courses have too many water 'features'. Boring, boring, boring!

George - too true.
Disappointed you didn't have the appropriate tech to get the drop right. I think the guy should have been dq'd and pilloried on TV!
Taking my tongue out of my cheek now... I do think a DZ would help.

Coaster, yes next time I'll ask the international space station to stay hovering above the course and beam images back to my office. Then they can call me and let me know where the drop should be taken. On the other hand, maybe not...
I wonder if the people who design golf courses consider things like the shape of lakes with regard to taking drops when they design these courses.

Re: Tiger at it again !!
unlikely, but I guess these days the image from above would have a deal of marketing sway.
I'm a sucker for a pretty picture of a golf course when looking at where to play on golf trips. Plus I always hit it where I want it so drops don't impact me.
Ahem.
