Lions rumours...
First topic message reminder :
Thought I'd start a thread for gossip from the lions camp, nothing too negative (unless deserved of course) but any gossip any of us hear over the next few weeks...
I'll start, an old acquaintance has msg'd me and he has heard from a mate at the Vale that a certain Sarries player was not impressed with the chryo at all, and only did the bare minimum before getting as far away as possible. He won't name any names but I can only think it's Matt Stevens, I can't imagine the younger boys not seeing it as a challenge or adventure.
Just a rumour though, how accurate it is I don't know, and the Stevens mention was a total guess on my part, here's hoping youve got something better

There aren't many great options around at present, and I for one think Aus overperformed massively last season, and he did a decent job.

I agree, not all Aussies would appear to

It's only a rumour though and from much of the cr*p I've read I think it is only going to happen if Gatland, every Welsh, Scottish and Irish player gets removed from the squad, they start playing in white shirts with a rose on it and calling the sport 'wugger' whilst sipping Pimms on the lawn!
Time to give it break on the Welsh bashing (ironically something they haven't managed on the pitch for a while) and support the LIONS.
Having reservations about the squad etc are not the same as Welsh bashing, and frankly making stereotyped xenophobic comments of your own in your post doesn't help you one bit. As I primarily consider myself to be a Brit then English, I look forward to the Lions more than any other rugby event and will be cheering them all the way, every player who wears the red jersey. That has no impact on my thoughts of whether we will actually win or not or whether all the decisions made up to this point are correct. We criticise Lancaster and English players when they mess up too, does that mean we don't support England? Everyone in England, bar a few fools, will be supporting the Lions. That does not mean that we should not voice our concerns over things like only bringing 2 flyhalves on tour or what are apparent signs of hypocrisy in Gatland's selection criteria
The key word I used was 'SOME'.
True. We had a handful of English fans looking for any excuse to criticise Gats. We also had a handful of Welsh fans out looking for a fight - I saw someone getting upset about Welsh bashing when Scots criticised the selection of some Englishmen.
Sometimes you Home Unionites are weird.

I heard a rumor that a Kiwi calmed down the inter lions bickering
I then realised it was actually a master plan throw us off the All Blacks dastardly plan to rename the Lions as the Red Caps and indoctrinate them into their world domination of teams named after colours

You forgot the bit about having all teams coached by and comprised of only NZ/SA raised players

This is no rumour...finally. Gats said today in Dublin that he likes to relax in the evening by turning on his laptop and tuning into 606V2. He denied he says things at Interviews to purposefully annoy the 606 legions but a dry smirk told its own story.

Tomorrows headline : Gatland withdraws from lions coaching duty after suffering 3rd degree burns to 80% of his body when he accidentally set himself on fire trying to ignite an alluminium ladder with accelerant. Rumours have it he is undergoing treatment with Chiefs medical staff in Hamilton instead...

Why does a scene from Deliverance come into my head? Warburton will need to patrol the corridor all night with his Bow and arrow at the ready.

"Gats, what happened Stevens who was rushed to hospital this morning with a suspected puncture wound to the chest?"
"We don't talk about that. And don't attempt to ask any of the players about it either. We have no squealers in this camp".

The Lions are in Dublin now.
Jamie Heaslip treated them all to a big feast in his restaurant in Dublin last night. Presumably they are off to Carton house today. Anyone know what they are up to?

You mean that Gats is actually HERSH?
That would explain a lot of his remarks.

The Lions will implode amongst infighting and recrimination and Gatland will be sacked as Wales coach within 12 months to be replaced by a welsh dream team of holley and howley.

"Infighting". Hilarious. The wallabies have more infighting than any other team in world rugby right now. They are in disarray.

Seriously i live in wales you need to live here to realise how much they love a good bit of politiking and backstabing. Any team there has been too many pickied from one particular country or players have been picked on reputation it has been a disaster .

Maybe you should reserve judgement until the test team is picked then. There is plenty of backstabbing going on in the Aussie camp believe me. The Lions will be in good company.

Re: Lions rumours...
I think where AUS has an edge is that probably 10 or the 15 positions are already clear cut. No one is going to push Genia, Horwill, O'Connor, Ashley-Cooper etc out of a test jersey. You won't see their rival players get upset because they have had time to accept the general order of things.
Lions players don't have that order. Players have precious few opportunities to shine and due to the lack of real competition, even those who play well are not certain to test (given its easier to shine against poor opposition).
There will be many players who will be disappointed come test selection and as much as we say players should just accept it... its probably harder then we think. Guys like Healey, Dawson, Henson have all spoken in the media about such grievences in recent tours..... you generally don't see this in settled sides.
It will cause a strain on the best of players, those who have been chosen, those who have not been and those who will be dropped during the test matches.

Re: Lions rumours...
I dont doubt mate. Gatland is on a tricky wicket either way if he dosnt pick a load of wales players well look what happened to Henry. If he does and they lose the first test which i think is likely he will get slaughtered and be forced into wholescale changes there by losing the second test and the dressing room he dosnt have a plan b its the same approach over and over againGunsGerms wrote:tecphobe wrote:Seriously i live in wales you need to live here to realise how much they love a good bit of politiking and backstabing.
