This fight was BRUTAL! It was the type of fight that reminds us why we like boxing so much.

Lebedevs eye was a complete mess and I actually think he'll lose a lot mentally and physically after this fight, he certainly quit at the end as well. I can't understand how the ref and the doctor can be so inept to allow that fight to go on so long.

Oh and Povetkin beat a no hoper on the undercard.

TBH I did not see that coming (neither did Lebedev!!)

I had this as a relatively easy fight for Denis due to Jones' long layoff, but it's obviously done him good.

Great great fight, but Rios-Alvarado II was better as both of these looked shattered by the 6th and most of the punches tey were throwing were mostly arm punches

Great result for Jones, he took some bombs but kept coming, the writing was on the wall

Thought it should have been stopped due to his eye but Lebedev was winning most of the fight so you can't really win in that position as a ref

Not to mention Huck-Afolabi III is in a couple weeks, both of those fight have been brutal

How on earth did Jones manage to make Welterweight back in the day.

Jones is refusing to take a blood test post-fight (source: Boxing Scene).

Jesus Christ his face looks worse in video than that picture, looks like a car ran over half his head. Only thing I can think of like that previously is the Rahman injury against Holyfield.

I have no idea how Jones stood up to those shots, he might have some lasting damage of his own. Although he won the fight, he took as bad a beating as Shannon Briggs vs Vitali.

Lebedev isn't a power puff puncher either.

It wouldn't surprise me if that's true commander. Sauerland tweeted on Thursday that Don King stormed out of their prefight meeting shouting that Jones wouldn't take the tests and that the fight was off.

I really hope he isn't on something as it was a great performance by the old timer.

He did test positive for diuretics after the J Nelson fight years ago.

Tremendous fight ! One of the best I've seen for a while.

But as always in today's game it's surrounded by controversy and the disease of drugs which is really hammering nails into the coffin of boxing these days, it's getting harder to associate legitimate wins & many wonder why I prefer to watch old footage.

Don King has confirmed post-fight drug tests went okay (he also took some of the sample himself in-case the Russians 'tried anything').

Brutal as boxing can be, you rarely see a sight like this. Sure, after a hard fight a fighter could have black/closed eyes etc the day after a fight when the swelling comes out but rarely do you see someone's face swell like that actually in the ring, god knows what he must look like today!

I didn't see that particular fight at the weekend but from reading the article there is a strong argument Lebedev's cornermen or the ref should've stepped in & stopped it before he's left with a face like the Elephant Man, sadly that didn't happen.

Yeah I watched it Chris, first and foremost it was a superb fight from start to finish. Lebedev put in one the bravest performances I've seen in modern years he was remarkable, to answer the question yeah it should've been stopped the damage was so horrific as the pics alluded to, actually looks worse on tape.

The fact is though that Lebedev was competitive throughout even with that gruesome injury, what was laughable the ref only called the doctor over once and that was in the 11th and sent Lebedev back to work, unbelievable ! Should've been stopped about 7 or 8 but hats off for fight of the year so far.

It's a hard one imo, and in retrospect it seems obvious that it should have been stopped

The thing is Lebedev was winning for most of the fight, he was landing huge shots throughout and a stoppage was on the cards

He was the champion, he was the home fighter as he was ahead, puts the ref in a tough position. Pull him out you can save him, but he loses anyway. Keep him in and he might get the win or the stoppage that he could have got and he keeps his belt

I watched the fight, Kosta Tzyu should have pulled him out a few rounds earlier, the doctor who took a look and didn't pull him out is also a disgrace.
