The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
First topic message reminder :
I, as well as countless other people have had enough of threads descending into utter drivel.
If you want to go wildly off topic and discuss things, then please do so in here.
Today alone has seen threads descend into conversations about Blazing Saddles, hot women, the Royal family, how to cook duck and now darts.
Is this really how we are going to attract new members?
If you want to talk about these or other similarly non boxing related matters, do so here and not on threads people have taken the time to write.
The Gloves is now open for business, now who is buying the first round?

I've harassed him in a couple of his threads, he's hated there already.

You think you are busy cleaning things up on here now Windy. You would work longer hours than a junior doctor were CEEJ to make the migration to these boards

I believe I would jump, jeff.
I'm terrified of heights, but I'd have someone take me to the top of a pile of Ring magazines, pin a Harry Greb photo to my chest, affix earphones to my noggin, through which I could hear the melancholy melody of Dvorak's ' New World Symphony, ' wherupon I would bid a fond farewell to my dear wife and leap into immortal rest.

Under normal circumstances I would consider such action as an over reaction but this seems perfectly even handed and proportionate.

Not really but compared to STC and CEEJ me and him were virtually bosom buddies.
Did enjoy his pre and post Hatton Malignaggi. Called it a stylistic nightmare for Hatton before doing the kind of about face that D4 would not have had the chutzpah to try and pull off. Took no small amount of pleasure in pointing it out.

Can't remember that exchange, jeff.
STC and Bob are the men for the brilliant, one line put downs, though. Like Chopin's Nocturnes or Oscar Wilde's short stories, they are always so economical yet so perfect.

Can I ask guys, what is the best website for boxing news? AM I right in thinking that the bbc website is woefully out of date?
Re: The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
Hobo depends what you want. If you want up to date information Seconds out is good, but should warn you is very advert heavy so is perhaps not great for a sneaky look at work. If you want historical stuff the Cyber Boxing Zone is without compare. For all time rankings the IBRO is very good and Cox Corner is also excellent, but just wish it got updated a little more frequently.

Just had a look at Seconds out and its not suitable for what I want. Looking for latest news stuff.
Any other suggestions? (looking for RSS feeds in particular)

Re: The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
www.thesweetscience.com for quality articles. BoxingScene for latest news, although sometimes their stories are rumour rather than confirmed. Also, ESPN and boxrec news have a lot of exclusives.Hobo wrote:Can I ask guys, what is the best website for boxing news? AM I right in thinking that the bbc website is woefully out of date?

Re: The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
Anyone looked on the original 606 recently? It's gone quickly downhill since the heady days of last month when it was a ghost town and is now being overrun by special people. Looking just now, I found these gems.
Exhibit A... http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A84799633 (!)
Exhibit B... http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A84800766 (Tzoyu? Rehman?)
Exhibit 3... http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A84784972 (Can't keep a good man down eh? I'm sure I saw this somewhere else earlier.)

I just had a quick look at those links. The BBC 606 might be populated almost entirely by windowlickers (and it is), but even the yellow bus brigade have sussed our resident Pac-stalker and owned him. Good to see some things in life are consistent.

Speaking of fat jokes, who's Chris Arreola fighting next ?

Re: The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
Not sure, but after his last fight Eastside boxing were bigging him up as a world beater since he weighed in at his lightest for many a year. Don't see it myself...
Re: The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
Arreloa's scheduled to fight Kendrick Releford. Judging by his record of 22 wins,14 losses and 2 draws I don't see him being much of a threat for Arreola.

Not at all. Arreolas last fight was not too long ago so i'm guessing he's just trying to slowly climb his way back up after his two big losses not too long back.
Re: The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
Arreola's last fight was 3 weeks ago, he came in pretty low weight wise as well, 234lb which is his lightest since 2004.
If he comes in better shape this time he may actually start a decent comeback.

With Haye and Wladamir likely too retire soon he's more than likely to win a world title.
He's looked improved in his last few fights aswell. Against lower opposition admittedly but has looked a bit sharper in the ring.
Re: The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
Yeah, if he shifts the weight and improves his mobility he will stand a chance against some of the up'n'comers I think.

If Arreola loses the weight and keeps his punching power he could be a very dangerous opponent for anyone at HW. He was always to fat to show what he is really capable of.

Buncey tonight:
It's BBC London 94.9 from 8-9pm.
This is the plan:
George Groves.
James DeGale from Tenerife.
Frank Warren.
Adam Booth.
Carl Froch from New York.
Ron Boddy.
Spencer Fearon.
Anthony Joshua.
Kevin Mitchell.
John Murray.
And news of the first five boxers to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.
There are still a few things to be sorted/confirmed.

Easy mistake to make Windy. Embarassing to admit it in light of recent relevations but I used to have Harry Greb as top of my middleweight all time list. Imagine how foolish I felt having a fictional character top of my list. Is like having Ivan Drago in your top ten heavyweights (obviously behind Tyson)

Re: The Gloves - The Boxing Board Pub Thread
So then, 606 memories, I'd like each of the old timers to list their top 3, just for a bit of light hearted, beginning of the week fun.
1) The introduction to the SPINNING BACKFIST
2) Alex Daman's obituary rap after Setanta's demise
3) Adad - need I say more? My god we had fun on his threads.
Any other worthwhile memories? I had difficulty choosing my top 3, there were plenty.
