Wasted potential XV
First topic message reminder :
I think the title speaks for itself, players who have failed to reach their potential either because of injury, attitude or coaching.
I can't think of many forwards but the following team had an enormous amount of potential:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5. Lawes
6.
7.
8. Haskell
9. Cusiter
10. Cipriani
11. Evans
12. Henson
13. Tait
14. Fitzgerald
15. R.Lamont

Martyn Madden at loosehead? The guy could have been very good if he had ever tried to get fit.

Has to be Darren Morris for me - could have been one of the all time great prop forwards but just wasted his talent.

His biggest talents were drinking and pie consumption - he exploited both to the full. That he was also a decent prop forward was just an aside

Re: Wasted potential XV
Wasn't Stuart Evans another lost Welsh prop? Looked dominant and then switched codes at the young age of 24. He didn't make an impact in League and, because of the amateur rules, had no chance to switch back.
On Geoghegan, Ian Hunter got the nod because he could also cover full back. The other wingers - Underwood x 2 and Evans - couldn't.
Hunter was class too, and might have shone more on the international stage if he hadn't got injured on that Lions tour. He was an early England incarnation of Ben Cohen.
Having said that, I would have chosen Geoghegan. He was a real character and fully committed. He put England to the sword but earned a lot of respect in doing so.
He didn't travel as a replacement when Hunter was injured. Instead, his Irish team mate Richard Wallace was called up. I recall hearing someone suggest that the Irish management thought Geoghegan was a bit bolshie so didn't recommend him. There must be some reason why Wallace went instead.

Evans was a huge loss to Welsh ruby at the time he really was a class act at prop. Quite a few other mentioned who liked the pies to much like madden and Morris.
