Lukas Rosol
First topic message reminder :
This guy looks to have made a good start to R1, so moving a little closer to meeting Nadal again.
I've noticed there seems to be some resentment towards him from some quarters and I wondered why that was. The match at Wimbledon was first rate and he played great, and honourably. If he makes R3 I suspect we'll hear about 'revenge'. What did he do to get under the skin if some fans?

Re: Lukas Rosol
I really wasn't talking about the players, Hawkeye. Check the article, I didn't ask whether Nadal had a problem with Rosol.
As for Fed & Benny making the thread......

Re: Lukas Rosol
The OP is a fair question although given the forum isn't awash with Nadal fans I'm not sure who the "some quarters" are. Rosol fully deserved that win playing lights out tennis that would have troubled anyone. But it was ONE tennis match, its not worth getting wound up about unless it became a sequence of events.
Fans of players will always get wound up by a loss though. For example, we have heard a lot about THAT shot Djokovic played against Federer at USO11 on MP. When guys play "go for it tennis" opinion is often divided on whether they were simply lucky or gutsy. At the end of the day I sit in the camp "you make your own luck".
I doubt Federer is "scared" of Benneteau, he just played very poorly in Rotterdam. I'm confident Roger will cruise through their next match should they meet as expected.

Here on 606v2 I think it's fair to say that it isn't the Nadal fans who get all excited about Lucas Rosol...

No, it didn't look like that on P1 did it?

Re: Lukas Rosol
Is this still going? Their player losing to someone they felt they shouldn't have often irks them a bit to that player. I didnt like Stan the man for a bit for a while after he beast Muzz at the US, but then much of that was also the way he would scream at the guys face all the time. Hes stopped that now and just lets his tennis do the screaming for him
But much of that is exagerrated by WUM's. With any luck itll be Nadal Rosol in 3rd round, Nadal can probably beat him and we can finally hang up the boots on this one.

Re: Lukas Rosol
The thing with Bennetau is that it wasn't just once, he beat Federer twice. And also took him to 5 at Wimbledon.

Still, Federer should win.

Re: Lukas Rosol
As for Rosol, I think the case for him beating Nadal might be overstated. I see Nadal in 3, but...I could be wrong...it will be interesting.
Matchups are one thing but Rosol is just not that good a player compared to Federer or Nadal.

Re: Lukas Rosol
Nadal will stuff Rosol and unless he's really finished Federer will see off Benny easily. The 5 sets at Wimbledon was completely injury inspired.

Mind you we musn't forget Rosol will probably lose to Fognini. It could go either way but Fognini would be the favourite in that one.

Re: Lukas Rosol
It was quite a stunning performance by Rosol when he beat Nadal, he looked like a man possessed for the whole of the match. Reminded me of a friend who took some speed and stayed up all night talking about his "condition". It was relentless.
Now I wonder..................?

I think I just saw that Fognini won on ITV4. So Rosol is gone. However Fognini can give Djokovic a favour he owes him by err..beating Nadal.

Re: Lukas Rosol
I remember how big a deal was made of the shoulder bump... I had a look at it on YouTube, and it felt very anti-climatic. I was expecting a Rugby league style shoulder charge, and I got the type of bump you see when school kids are passing a corridor. I think a lot of Nadal's impatience, had a lot to do with him being frustrated at the fact that there was a guy playing lights out, and physically couldnt do much about it.
As long as Rosol is lower ranked, there will always be a chance for the two to meet early in Grand Slams, or even Masters 1000.

What does lower mean? He'll always be lower than Nadal.kingraf wrote:As long as Rosol is lower ranked
To meet anywhere from R4 onwards he'd need to be ranked 16 or above (or beat a top 16 seed).
Very little chance of that, most of the time he loses against guys ranked in the top 64.
His title in Bucharest was the only time this year he beat people in the top 40. Hardly a marquee player.

Re: Lukas Rosol
Meanwhile, back to Roland Garros 2013 and Rosol lost to Fognini in 2nd round. Expect Nadal to beat Foggy in straight sets, losing around 8 or 9 games in total.
As for Rosol, he has backed up last year's shock win against Nadal - its propelled him up the rankings and enabled him to gain direct entry into the big tournaments and avoid the Challenger circuit. I think though that Rosol's ranking will probably peak around where he is now - mid 30s, meaning he'll remain a tough 1st round draw but will miss out on the protection from being a seed himself.
