Mayweather v Canelo
Mayweather-Canelo
First topic message reminder :
Just announced!
Mayweather tweet - "I chose my opponent for September 14th and it's Canelo Alvarez. I'm giving the fans what they want. It will be at the MGM Grand."
Canelo tweet - "The top is close on September 14 there will be a new king!"
Thoughts on this fight? 2 fights in a row Floyd's delivered, would be a great way to reach 45-0. I always thought Canelo needed more experience despite the huge interest in this fight, and it will show!
p.s the weight's not been announced by either fighter but Fighthype have reported that it will be a jr. middleweight unification bout.
** Hey guys, I added a poll to this for early thoughts. Didn't want to start a new thread - Seanusarrilius**

You sure about that Truss? I remember different, sure some old timers from back then might remember! As for your comparator fights, that's really odd for a man of your knowledge. Chavez vs Whittaker was a robbery in most people's eyes. Canelo is in no way comparable to the great man! As for camacho, to equate what he did to Floyds style is really really odd! camacho is one of those fighters reliant on pure speed , once that diminishes they are in trouble, they are not technical boxers a la Floyd or Ward. Unfortunately for canelo Floyd still has plenty of speed but even more so the brain, adaptability, reading of range and clocking the opponents rhythm is still absolutely top draw! Mismatch!

Re: Mayweather-Canelo
I think Chavez-Whitaker is much more likely personally, Truss. If Mayweather does somehow lose this one, he won't succumb as willingly as Hector did, that's for sure!
Just as Pea did against Julio, I can see Mayweather tucking himself in the pocket and finding Alvarez with just about every counter he throws, pivoting and stepping around the return fire. Alvarez can't offer that same non-stop pressure that Julio did, either.
I can understand some thinking that Alvarez has maybe caught Mayweather at the right time, and by rights he should have, given that Floyd is thirty-six adnd has been boxing competitively pretty much part-time for the past few years, but I think his fight against Guerrero showed us that he's not too far away from his best, even if he has lost five percent or so.
I think Mayweather will have enough confidence in his defence, countering and boxing brain to allow Alvarez to set the pace and force the action, and I'm sure there will be times when Mayweather has to cover up, back-track now and then and surrender a round or two. But in the big picture I still think he'll have too much guile and class for Canelo.

Pleased for anybody to dig up one post where I picked Hatton Mate........Didn't fancy Hatton at welter........
All good things come to an end Zoomy........When you reach a certain age you never know when the well runs dry.........
Never said Whittaker wasn't a robbery...........Suggesting we'll either see Chavez-Whittaker or Chavez-Camacho.

G'day Zoomy... Do we have to keep starting mayweather threads to get an appearance from you.
Think I see this, as Chris does, so he's saved me the trouble. Floyd to win, but good on him for taking it, shame about the catchweight, lets hope canelo gets there without it taking something out of him. Helps floyds bank balance and legacy, so perfect fight for him.

Chavez was a small welter though Chris..........Alvarez is a huge light middle.........
If he can land to the body it'll take his toll.........on a 36 year olds legs......
Love to see him try a Hagler-Hearns on Floyd with his huge weight advantage..

I don't wanna give all my analysis so far from the fight... But heck, what about Canelo's ability to fight the full 3 mins at 154!!! This is the big elephant in the room that int being mentioned. Many of us have clocked this! I think his stamina nd conditioning is all wrong! And he i gonna have to work to cut the ring off with Floyd nd he will swing and miss a lot . My stoppage prediction is in prt based on Canelo running out of stem by the mid rounds! Please lets go study his efficiency as a 3 min fighter at 154 let alone coming done to 152

This is big for Canelo, Im a little worried that he isnt fully ready, but a win here and he becomes an instant legend. but my question is: what are the odds on some tragedy befalling FMJ before the fight? see: Kirkland, Williams, Cotto, Ortiz.

What is the matter with you?
The author of "Mad luv for de truffit, time to see who is de numa one savaloy puncher." is the only person I will allow to get away with this sort of nonsense.

Lmaoooooo! Floyd is perhaps the best conditioned fighter in the last decade! What he does eg giants Cotto and Oscar is arguably harder , to defend on the ropes and counter for three mins against relentless hard punchers. Put it this way I would love to recreate that with you ole boy.... You can be Floyd!!! Loool

Sick to the boxing facts old man! We don't pick u up for ur fixation on Don Curry do we! Stick to the boxing facts and knowledge and show me the trail of evidence that substantiates ur claim that the so called middle age legs of Floyd are about to give! you are so odd! I mean as a seasoned analyst how can you come to that conclusion after what he did to Guerrero, even Oscar was stunned saying i did not expect his legs and movement to be so fresh! Oscar was visibly stunned in the crowd, coz he knows how he felt in his body at an even younger age! Show me your evidence Truss

"Stick to the boxing facts"..........You wrongly suggested I thought Canelo would do a Hagler-Hearns and wrongly accused me of picking Hatton to beat Mayweather!!!
I'll substantiate my claims by suggesting you look at Boxing history........
At 36 fighters are way past their prime and If you want to cite Hopkins........He gets away with fighting 30 seconds around by being a master-spoiler..
Try to be less arrogant..

Possibly stamina wont be a major factor in this fight. Both fighters are more economical punchers. Id be surprised if either found the pace too heavy going unless Alvarez makes the mistake of going crazy early.

You're a lightweight. Well probably a 133 pound catchweight rather than a lightweight if you're like your dreamboy floyd
Good to see you on here fella however fleeting, and good that your man is taking someone whose size and youth at least present a threat on paper.

NO TRUSS! I won't cite Hopkins! There is no need! Surely even ur myopic boxing knowledge can extend to to the rationale at looking at the aforementioned Mayweathers last fight! I mean does this rationale seriously challenge the grey matter for u! Ur assertion is that the 36 year old Mayweathers legs are going or gone, that he is either on the slide or that the slide could happen any moment.... NOW! Well the 36 year old Mayweather just had a fight the other day, against a young fit robust champion! In case you missed it it went the distance ! In case you missed it all and sundry were shocked at Mayweathers movement, which hadn't been seen for ages! In case you missed it he put on a defensive master class and out boxed and out witted an opponent! So no we don't have to look at Hopkins Holyfield or any other old men! Once again I challenge you ... Look at this 36 year olds last fight and give me the tell tale signs of decline!!! Over to u! Boxing facts please ole boy

Lightweight is 135, so 133 stipulation would be catchweight, under the lightweight limit. Pedant

A lot of people already jumping out of their seats to say Floyd by easy decision.
.... But this is a new ball game. Canelo is the real deal, and this in my opinion, is the first dangerous fight Floyd has taken in 5 years. Canelo has all the tools to beat him, and as we're aware Floyd's two outings at 154lbs have not been one sided victories.
Think his "0" may go in this one.

Ok got more respect for this because at least you start with the semblance of a coherent argument. So if I may delve a bit deeper, I am intrigued as to what are the tools Canelo has that allows him to beat the p4p king. I would like your views as to how these tools play against the Mayweather style as reinstated by his father against Guerrero . Interesting debate

Hi Sean to the contrary, you might have missed it but a week after the fight show time announced that pay per view figures had already topped the million mark.
What I do think is that such was Floyds dominance against Guerrero it stunned the tv company and promoters. It would have been harder to go to aDevon Alexander and let this build more! People would have just said Floyd is too good! They had to make the big fight now to keep momentum in the 6 fight deal. Then he can come down a bit and allow them to build the case for the so called next monster, Mathyse

Ward will become number 1 I expect should Canelo win..
If I've never been a Floyd fan.....

Ward to become no 1 in the absence of Floyd or a Floyd loss.... I just fell out of my chair with surprise!!! Lool! I really can't believe this is Truss! I mean the old Truss had a few funny turns, but I don't think this guy is serious! has ur account been hacked again, perhaps by lil handsofstone!!!

All you've done is abuse and patronise me....................I should be bothered......
Still Mayweather is the first 36 year old athlete to be at his physical peak.............kudos to him.........
Something Ali, Holmes, Louis, Robbo, Leonard, Jones jr couldn't manage to do.......But enough now.

mayweather is not at his peak, his power has vanished, he only wins UD's now.

Zoomies posting style is potentially more annoying than Truss'! Because I write like this! Will you like it if I write like this?!?! LMAOOOOOOO
Although he is right in semblance - Truss you can't throw a generalisation at Floyd that he's past it at 36, he was impressive in his last fight. Showed no real signs of age. Same as Pacquiao, before he was KO'd he looked fresh, sharp and fast.
Athletes are getting more longevity at it stands Truss, look at Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, Neville etc. All quality players well into their 30's, some into their late 30's!
I'd say Floyd has too much for Canelo, but he's not as much of a longshot as Zoomy seems to think.

Re: Mayweather-Canelo
All the players you mention are past their best Jabby..............Or younger in the case of Terry, Lampard and Gerrard and still probably past their best.
