First Record You Bought!
Sorry if this has been done before.
What was the first record that you bought, be it a single, or album?
Mine was England's 1982 World Cup song - This Time We'll get it Right. Not an all time classic but hey it was good at the time.

Re: First Record You Bought!
This thread has just made me realised that I have never paid for music before...
By the time I got into music, in my mid-teens, Youtube was already king and I had things like Spotify so had no reason to buy music.
Odd that.

My first "album" was the Chariots of Fire soundtrack by Vangelis.
My first single was Tired of Getting Pushed Around by 2 Men A Drum Machine And A Trumpet
I wonder what happened to them...

The first album I bought as Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Welcome to the Pleasuredome in 1984 aged 8, followed swiftly by Wham's Make It Big. I think after that the next was Pet Shop Boys Please.

Re: First Record You Bought!
The first record I had bought for me was Stevie Wonder's I Just Called To Say I Love You by my grandma. The first album I bought with my own money was, sadly, Jason Donovan . I was young and stupid then though.
I soon learned my lesson.

Indeed I would have been much better off with this. Owning a JD album wasn't my proudest moment!

Re: First Record You Bought!
Mine was Confrontation - Bob Marley & the Wailers, bought on the strength of how much I loved Buffalo Soldier. I was pretty devastated when I discovered that the rest of the album failed pretty dismally to live up to it & that there were only about 2 other songs that were even listenable, the rest was just dross.

First record bought for me was either Plastic Bertrand's "Ca Plane Pour Moi" or Johnny Wakelin's "Black Superman"
First I bought with my own money was probably "Thriller"

Re: First Record You Bought!
First Single was Do You Really Like It - DJ Pied Piper and the MC's
First Album was The Marshall Mathers LP- Eminem, then You've Come A Long Way Baby - Fatboy Slim and Gorillaz by, surprisingly, Gorillaz all in reasonably quick succession.
They were the ones I bought myself. I had Three Lions 96 and 98 on single and loads of football compilations. Im not sure if I listened to any non-football related music as a child

I once came close to a fist-fight (during my teens) with a good friend over who was better out of the Pet Shop Boys & A-ha (I preferred PSB). I absolutely hated everything by A-ha (or convinced myself I did) as a consequence. Though, to put it into some persepective, we did nearly have a fist-fight over whether you include the floor you're trying to reach when you're counting how many stairs there are in a staircase.

Re: First Record You Bought!
I bought the good the bad and the ugly soundtrack at a carboot sale when I was around 6. Sadly I also bought a cassette storage thing that I mistook for a circular marble slide - the sort of things in crazy golf where they go in one end and take a weird route into another playing area. This perplexed my dad who checked if I had a fever twice on the way home and burst out laughing when I got my marble and it went plonk and stopped dead at the top.

1st album was What's the story morning, Glory? A few years after it came out. My big cousin would always listen to Cigarettes and Alcohol and we'd argue over which was better.
He once argued with me that the Oasis version of Bittersweet Symphony I had on my mp3 was nowhere near as good as the original even though it was the original but the website I'd downloaded it off had got the name wrong.

Re: First Record You Bought!
First record I had bought for me was the Power Rangers soundtrack, circa 1995, followed by a couple of Backstreet Boys, Oasis and 5ive albums over the next two or three years! Should probably have kept that under my hat....
Anyway, first records I went out and bought for myself (after my taste had got a little better, even if it wasn't top-notch yet!) were when I was about twelve. The single was 'Lady' by Mojo and the album was 'Enema of the State' by Blink-182.

I had the first 3 Kylie albums after my Frankie goes to Hollywood, Wham and Pet Shop Boys phases, as an only child my dad must have thought he was never going to become a grandad.

The theme from Doctor Who spinoff K9 and company.
I bought it at a Doctor Who exhibition because I couldn't afford a mug.

I didn't think I'd ever bought a single, but for some reason your post reminded me that I had bought one before the above. Slam Jam with WWF Superstars - We're All Together Now. May have to pop around my mum's house to try and find it.
