Very, very pleased we've managed to secure Ashe and Bordill in particular.
Good, young loose forwards are always difficult to land and those two could be absolute crackers this season. I think that the treatment of last year's EDPs was about right too.

A good mix there, glad to see the EDP is capturing players at a slightly younger age (Rae and Lowe), although this may not be young enough.
A few of those players should be pushing for a few games next season, as you say George, Ashe and Bordill in particular should get some game time.
Murray McConell has been a tad unlucky, injury has really hampered his early promise.

Let me guess, Glasgow get Bordill, Ashe and Finn Russell, whilst Edinburgh will get Marcus Di Rollo's little sister and the long lost younger brother of Brendan Laney....
Looks a strong EDP for Glasgow.

A few players unlucky not to be involved in either Glasgow or Edinburghs EDP list. Main one for me is Robbie Fergusson from Ayr and Scotland u20s. Really talented player who can play 12,13,10 and 15. One of the best talents I have seen in a while coming through.
The other is Ruraidh Young the Accies and U20 full back, had a great season and also Damian Hoyland who has been scoring lots of tries and has lightning pace.

Very true Maj, I would have thought Fergusson would be a better shout than Bruce Dick or Jack Steele??

Yeah i would have said so, definitely better than Bruce Dick. Jack Steele I have been impressed by but still think Fergusson is the more talented.
Fergusson should be given a shot and really given the proper coaching to develop. Think he will make an outstanding 12 or 15. When i have seen him play he has reminded me of a young James O'Connor. I know that is a big statement!!

Re: Weegie EDP (academy) for 2013/2014
Yeah, I had completely forgot about him until you mentioned him, very unlucky. What do you make of the new Edinburgh recruits?
Alex Allan (Edinburgh Accies) - LOOSEHEAD
Chris Auld (Gala)* - CENTRE
Magnus Bradbury (Boroughmuir)* - NUMBER 8
Phil Cringle (Heriot’s) - TIGHTHEAD
Bruce Dick (Melrose)* - CENTRE (from GW)
Jamie Farndale (Edinburgh Accies) - WING
Sam Hidalgo-Clyne (Heriot’s) - SCRUM HALF
Neil Irvine Hess (Watsonians)* - LOCK/BLINDSIDE
Ewan McQuillin (Gala)* - TIGHTHEAD
George Turner (Heriot’s) - HOOKER
Hamish Watson (Edinburgh Accies) - OPENSIDE
* = new EDP player
I don't know anything about the two U18 lads coming in.

I'll level with you - I would also settle for Ryan Crotty at a pinch.EST wrote:..Let it be Fruean, let it be Fruean, let it be Fruean....

Ok George - Crotty would be passable, I suppose. But if it's Tim Bateman. I will be very unhappy.

Ben Smith would be the best, but that will never happen considering the all blacks are finally beginning to appreciate him.
Looks like Conrad Smith, sounds like Conrad Smith, plays like Conrad Smith.

I actually hope it's somebody like Tom Taylor. Very, very good goal kicker, ability to play pretty much anywhere in the backline and would add a lot of calm to our sometimes frenetic inside back play.

If the news of a new centre arriving for next season is true, does this mean Horne will be making a more permanent move from 12 to 10?

Possibly, but why re-sign Scott Wight for a year?
A back who kicks goals would be a great signing. As we really only have one quality kicker currently at the club who is regularly going to play (Weir).

It seems like Scott Wight was signed for another year on the back of Weirs injury, they felt that they needed the cover. I could be wrong, but Wights extensions only came after Weirs injury, before then and for the better part of the season the writing was on the wall that Wight was leaving.
As for kickers who regularly play, I think we will see Hogg more involved with the kicking duties next season. Its clearly a part of his game that he has been working on.

And the easiest part to work on.
I have to say that the Weeg are looking strong with quite a bit of potential coming through too
And you don't have Ben Atiga's monthly Greggs bill to pay (which is why Edinburgh are unable to sign anyone decent)
Is wing not looking a bit bare, though (assuming the Fiji Weegie plays SH)

Maitland, DTH and Seymour with Niko out there is pretty damn good for starters. Hogg and Murchie can do a decent wing job as can Dunbar but he is better at 13.

On the very brief glimpses we saw of him, I actually thought Taylor Paris looked a decent winger - good pace and workrate.
Still - much better to get a young Scottish up and coming winger into the reckoning.
